IAmProGoat 0 Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 This is worth a look. Williams always seems to rise above the movie...http://90ways.com/critarchive/crit8.php
Jeshopk 8 Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 Funny that he thinks that Qui Gon's funeral music is referencing Lord of the Rings. If time were running backward that would be possible LOL
Mr. Breathmask 624 Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 The hell? As much as I enjoy the LotR scores, that is about a ton too much credit for Shore. 8O
Jeshopk 8 Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 The hell? As much as I enjoy the LotR scores, that is about a ton too much credit for Shore. Its not just too much credit for Shore, but impossible, seeing as how Williams wrote it before Shore wrote his first LOTR score.
John Crichton 4 Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 Did JW like Lord of the Rings? Sounds like he was listening to Howard Shore's excellent scores. During a particularly troubling scene in which it becomes clear that Anakin has gone to the Dark Side, we hear a chant-like melody that lands me somewhere around the Shire or Rivendell. Then, JW one-ups Shore by smashing the delicate texture with a shouting, rhythmic chorus--another of Shore's ensembles. And I'd swear they're singing Dwarfish. Later, as Padme gives birth to twins Luke and Leia and Darth Vader is transformed into the familiar machine-man, JW picks out three chords that are almost synonymous with Loth Lorien. In this new context, they tug the heartstrings even harder. The homage makes sense because until Shore's Lord of the Rings music, JW had no peer who scored epic film operas with Wagnerian motifs. Shore would sell his hands to the Robot Devil to be able to write what Williams wrote for Episode III or any other score.Williams' Sixth, Sith, is Sick ShizAnd this means what in English?
RomanticStrings 62 Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 Williams' Sixth, Sith, is Sick ShizAnd this means what in English? It means he likes it, John ~Conor
Ray Barnsbury 8 Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 Thank goodness Williams' peer Howard Shore scored LotR, so that Williams could have a template from which to create Wagnerian motifs! Ray Barnsbury

The elitist will say choral work is a rip-off of "O, Fortuna" from "Carmina Burana." The newbie will say it's a rip from Shore's Lord of the Rings.
