  1. No, no, in your case I intentionally used ILLusions instead of DE-lusions. Think about it. Oh, and please refrain from this 'old bean' stuff. It sounds a bit gayish. Bye, Roald
  2. I never said I think The Days Between is *one of Williams all time best*. Thanks king mark. Bye, Roald
  3. Well, Chicken Run isn't the only good Media Ventures score out there. anyone heard Antz? The Colony Theme (the whistled one) is still one the great themes from the '90's. I love the score for Armageddon, Twister, etc. Not all directly Media Ventures, but still... I think that Hans Zimmer (and the Media Ventures) have become the black sheep of film music. The problem is that everyone seems so overly opionated about it. I don't really see why. I'd like to believe that Zimmer is bringing film music to a wider audience. His scores for The Lion King and Gladiator have sold millions. They recieved mainstream attention. I remember people talking about the music after seeing The Rock. Zimmer isn't hurting the industry; he's popularising it like Williams has done before him. Zimmer is a wonderful composer. You may prefer old-school film scoring, but there isn't a rule that says all film composers must be classically trained, that they must write for traditional instruments, etc. Nowhere is it stated that a film score can't be driven by rock chords or electric guitars. In the end it all comes back to personal taste. And from there Hans Zimmer isn't any better or worse than Jerry Goldsmith or Korngold himself. It all depends on how YOU define a good film score. Bye, Roald - who really liked the score in K-PAX, but concluded that it was totally devoid of any traditional element...
  4. Hey, I officially LOVE Zimmer's music! I just heard his music from Spirit. My God, that main title piece called Homeland is really amazing stuff. If Williams had written the exact same piece, note-for-note, in the exact same arrangement we would all drool here. But ofcourse now that it's Zimmer's creation it will undoubtly be labelled as 'meaningless' or 'lacking'. I'm not taking anything away from Williams with these statements. Don't get me wrong; Williams is ofcourse king of the hill; he is THA MAN!, but I'm so glad I can enjoy the work of other composers too. Like Hans Zimmer. No matter how you feel about him, you can't deny that the man has a gift for creating wonderful melodies. Driving from Driving Miss Daisy, every melody from The Lion King, the theme from Crimson Tide, the God-motif from The Prince Of Egypt, the love theme from Mission Impossible 2, As Good As It Gets,... He CAN do it. Bye, Roald - hoping this won't turn into a Hans Zimmer flame war...
  5. Is it worth buying? Impossible to answer. Depends highly on YOUR personal taste. All I can say is that Stepmom is one of Williams' most overlooked scores. To me; it's much more attractive and rich than his other 'quiet' scores like Stanley And Iris or The Accidental Tourist. There is at least one amazing, somewhat hidden gem on the album called Taking Pictures. It supports one of the latter (and more emotional) scenes in the film and it's really, really great. The stuff you'd expect from Ennio Morricone or Nicola Piovani. The final track, the End Credits (which is actually a re-arrangement of the second track The Days Between - or the other way around?) is worth the price of the CD alone. Really. BUT - like I stated in the opening of this reply, it really depends on your personal taste. Perhaps you're not into this kind of scoring at all. Avoid it then. But you already know that The Imperial March won't be on this album? Bye, Roald
  6. Well Miz we are not ALL from the UK or the US. It's obvious this person doesn't speak English very well. Bye, Roald
  7. Wow, it must really suck to be you. Bye, Roald
  8. Schindler's List is one of the essential John Williams scores. It's profound, moving, emotional and a modern classic. It has at least three wonderful themes, with the main theme being the most impressive - a highly complex, hanutingly beautiful melody. It is without a shadow of a doubt the most underrated score among John Williams fans. Really. It's as good as Star Wars, as powerful as E.T. or Superman, as haunting as Jaws... Still; it hardly gets the praise it deserves. Trust me; Schindler's List won't dissapoint you. It's one of the greatest film scores in cinema history, next to Ben Hur, Lawrence Of Arabia, The Godfather and Star Wars. Saving Private Ryan is another gem, although not nearly as "accesible" as Schindler's List. It has an immensly powerful opening cue, Hymn To The Fallen, which easily ranks among Williams' greatest pieces, but the actual underscore is less impressive. In the film, it works like magic, but on album, it's less interesting. Still a great, great score. In short; both scores present some of Williams' best music from the last ten years. You can't go wrong with these. Bye, Roald P.S. Try Born On The Fourth of July too! It's another highly underrated score here, but it's really one of Williams' very best. A beautiful, deeply emotional score.
  9. Let's say 2005 MAY 25 NEW YORK CITY First we see Episode III, then we get together and have fun. Or does this sound too Ewokish? ---- Anyway; Perhaps the members from Holland and Germany can easily create some kind of Member Meeting in the near future. It could be kinda fun. Would anyone support such an idea? Or does it still sound too Ewokish? Perhaps the need is not really there. I don't know. I'm just thinking aloud here... Bye, Roald
  10. It was perhaps a bit out of place in that score. But I would love to hear Williams doing a full score based on that idiom. Imagine this older, classically trained composer delivering beats and bangs that would silence guys like Moby or Fatboy Slim... Wouldn't that be an ubercool thing? Well, not for you I guess. But I would really get a kick out of kids buying the Minority Report soundtrack and labelling it as 'cool' or 'rocking'. I'm sure that idea alone is enough to make you sick, but I sort of see the fun in these things. I hope it will happen. Bye, Roald
  11. I just hope he'll turn that techno part from A.I.'s Moon Rising cue into a two hour score. But hey, that's just me! Bye, Roald
  12. JOHN WILLIAMS Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope Schindler's List E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial Raiders Of The Lost Ark Star Wars Episode V The Empire Strikes Back Close Encounters Of The Third Kind Born On The Fourth Of July Jaws Jurassic Park Hook Superman - The Movie (OK - those were 11, but they're all so good...sigh...I can't choose) OTHER COMPOSERS The Mission (Ennio Morricone) Braveheart (James Horner) Conan The Barbarian (Basil Poledouris) The Untouchables (Ennio Morricone) Edward Scissorhands (Danny Elfman) Dances With Wolves (John Barry) Under Fire (Jerry Goldsmith) The Power Of One (Hans Zimmer) Once Upon A Time In America (Ennio Morricone) The Lord Of The Rings (Howard Shore) Bye, Roald
  13. Head over to the new official site (www.minorityreport.com) and you'll hear a few seconds of music (very, very likely from John Williams' upcoming score) looped over and over again. OK, it's just a few seconds, but it sounds cool nonetheless... Bye, Roald
