  1. Is there a cue sheet? Where can I find it?
  2. This is one of my favorite pieces from Schindler's List. Unfortunately, it does not feature anywhere in the movie itself (right?) -- does anyone know whether it was intended for a particular scene? Or is it just a concert version (with the incomparable Itzhak Perlman) of Schindler's Workforce?
  3. Welcome to the board, USSArizona!!! Nice to have you here. I have a few questions. What are your favorite John Williams scores? And what do you like about his music these days? Surely, Johnny's music from the 50s and 60s differ greatly from the brilliant orchestral soundtracks he writes today!!!!
  4. What? Gustavo has actually fans? Well, I hope his parents are gonna have a good time! Hey how about we attend the signing and throw raw eggs at him!!! That ought to give him some ideas! (sorry Gustavo, I still feel too bitter about JW not winning)
  5. What the heck do you mean -- "he needs to write a better score"? I think it was one of John Williams' best, most original efforts of the past few years! I don't think it's possible to have written a better score . . . especially considering that the movie itself was only mediocre (not to insult Ziyi Zhang). I love this score.
  6. I think the Academy makes it its business NOT to award JW anymore. Everyone knows JW is the best, everyone knows he's the most obvious winner every damn year (except maybe for a few exceptions), so they take a perverse pleasure in NOT giving him an Oscar. By nominating him but not awarding him, they want to highlight the winner all the more, no matter what crappy score he wrote. Then the unknown winner can boast: hey I was up against John Williams and won -- so my score has to have SOME merit, no matter how crappy it sounds!!! I think the same applied for Spielberg before he finally got recognized for Schindler's List. He was too damn good, too damn successful. So they took a perverse pleasure in nominating him/his movies but snubbing him eventually. I think the Academy needs to grow up a little and recognize true talent/greatness more consistently, instead of playing little political games. If such a load of crap as Brokeback Mountain (the score) can beat out Memoirs of a Geisha (or Finding Neverland can beat out PoA), then it's hard to take the Academy seriously. It just offends the public. What I mean to say it, I've watched JW lose many times over the past decade or so, but for me, this year was the most painful loss, by far. I feel sorry for John, because he really appeared to want to win this year, what with all the campaign and everything. Not to mention the little fact that MoG WAS indeed the best score of the year. I just hope JW didn't take the loss too hard -- but I guess by now he's accustomed to NOT being given true credit by the Academy.
  7. Santaolalla: Mr. Williams -- here's a check for a million dollars, like I promised. But please . . . please . . . Johnny: So you want me to send the autographed Temple of Doom album to which address??? LOL Enough already with the stupid captions!
  8. Well, you can't really be full of yourself when virtually no one knows you exist!!! Before this crazy show, has anyone even heard of this guy?
  9. Santaolalla: You . . . you are John Williams!!! The one and only! My biggest idol and inspiration! May the force be with you! Johnny: Who the hell are you?
  10. As I read this, it strikes me that I actually hate German. What a dumb language! Can anyone translate this?
  11. I was thinking . . . well, at least Johnny got the Oscar goodie bag worth about $100,000!!! LOL
  12. Santaolalla: Mr. Williams -- finally I get to meet you. I'm your biggest fan. But since I have the more unpronounceable name, I'm destined to win . . .
  13. What are some of the good "other film music boards"?
  14. Actually I liked Perlman's rendition of Munich best. Better than MoG, actually. I wonder who arranged it! JW or Bill Conti???
  15. A friend of mine recorded it on DVD, but I'm damned if I know how to put it on the internet!!!
  16. I liked him, actually, but sometimes he was a bit out of line -- as a big Spielberg fan, I was miffed at him poking fun at Jews and Schindler's List/Munich. What did you think?
  17. Oh, BTW, does anyone have the followup to that CD -- Williams on Williams? Also good (especially the Barrel Chase and Basket Case), but IMO nothing beats the original.
  18. Cause that was the worst score of last night, that's why!!!!
  19. Same here. For many years, this was my favorite album, Williams or otherwise. Then I realized that they weren't Original Recordings and started collecting those. Actually I adore all 13 tracks on the CD -- a rarity.
  20. What a shitty ceremony! I'm actually too speechless to comment on JW losing yet again. Some thoughts, though. Did Steven Spielberg's movies (WotW and Munich, not MoG) win ANY award? I don't think so. So back to THAT tired old routine again -- give him the snub like they used to do with relish before Schindler's List. I find that so annoying and infuriating. I didn't really care about the other wins, one way or the other (no real surprises, if you ask me). What I liked about this show was the host -- didn't really know him before, but he was one of the best: sarcastic, but always VERY funny -- and Reese Witherspoon winning an Oscar -- although that was sort of a given, I was certainly glad she did win. Her speech was corny, but also sort of endearing. Yeah, that's it. Oh, what the heck, it's just a stupid award. I think anyone who has an ounce of knowledge about film music (in fact, anyone who has an ounce of taste) will see that John Williams is the true winner here. Selma Hayek just misread his name, and no one bothered to correct her. I forgot who, but someone said that JW was honored the entire evening, first by playing Over The Moon during a montage, by putting Itzhak Perlman on stage to perform the samples, and several good shots of our maestro. Also, did anyone notice how, when Selma Hayek opened the envelope, she just stared for a moment at the paper with incredulity before announcing the winner? I think she couldn't believe it herself. AAAAAARRGGHHHHHH!!!!! This is SO infuriating and annoying.
  21. Where did you get the DVD(s), Morlock? They aren's for sale, are they?
  22. LOL You live in the States, so you're screwed anyway (no dialogue free versions there). Still with us? I would get the older ones first, before they're out of print or sold out. Get Far and Away and Schindler's List!
