  1. I think context is important to this kind of score which is so deeply narrative in nature. It's a bit like listening to a Wagner opera for the first time without understanding German or having a libretto to follow the plot. It's great music and enjoyable on a certain level, but following the plot makes it a far more intense and thrilling experience. I saw all three LOTR films before hearing the scores of any of them (I came quite late to the party) and I'm going to watch the Hobbit before I hear any of the music (well, I've heard 'Old Friends' and 'The Adventure Begins' but that's mostly old material.
  2. Not a score, but I love Donald Swanns song cycle The Road Goes Ever On
  3. Doug Adams tweeted that he reckons there are more themes in An Unexpected Journey than in Fellowship of the Ring. Cool!
  4. I was listening to the FOTR CR's today, and noticed that the "Weakness and Redemption" motif was lifted straight from the Aviator.
  5. It's not a Shore melody. The Misty Mountains melody was composed by Plan 9.
  6. Hey, those tweets never mentioned Shore - this is the last minute JNH rescore folks!
  7. I see theres a medley of James Horner scores on the program also.
  8. Damn! Will I be the last one standing? Ah, no, I can always count on KM to stand by my side till the end, I guess. BloodBoal - who thinks KM is actually going to like The Hobbit score, but will be too proud to admit it. I only listened to five, then stopped! And I'm definitely not going to listen to the full album until I've seen the film. This was just a moment of weakness
  9. AHHHHHH I caved, I listened to about 5 samples. Love what I'm hearing!
  10. goodness gracious me. december feels so far away... Hell yeah. The switch to the Shire statement is wonderful - a very longing, homely feel. Also loving the bit just as An Unexpected Party cuts off - lovely wandering melody. Only 4 weeks to go! 5 actually. Well just under 5 if you live in the UK, where its released on the 13th
  11. Im just curious as to why Shore didnt set Misty Mountains to music. Surely he was already "on board" even at that stage?
  12. Incanus01 • 5 hours ago Well that was a lovely bit of music and great bridging material from LotR to the Hobbit, the Shire music still intact, bucolic and carefree but again Shore injects some hints of adventure with mysterious and suspenceful material, quoting even the music from the moment we see the famous map at Bag End in FotR. If this is any indication of how seamlessly the musical Middle Earth is extended upon the old foundations I can't wait to hear the whole score! -Mikko- 1 • Reply • Share › Alexandra Huberson Incanus01 • 3 hours ago Nice thoughts, you took the words right out of my mouth. I immediately recognized the "Erebor Theme" (I'll just call it that way. as well. I've expected by Shore to finally use that motif in the "Hobbit" Trilogy and I'm so glad that he did it. It might become one of the main themes of the trilogy, like the "Fellowship theme" was in LotR. I'm so over-excited, I can't wait to listen to the whole score and to the new array of fantastic themes. 0 • Reply • Share › Doug Adams Mod Alexandra Huberson • 3 hours ago Not Erebor. Think stepwise/scalar. (I'm allowed to say this; it's a Fellowship theme!) 0 • Reply • Share › Alexandra Huberson Doug Adams • 3 hours ago Thank you for replying! Ok, I'll keep that in mind. PS: I adore your book, it's so beautifully made and written! PPS: Aaah, now I got it! That's brilliant! ) 0 • Reply • Share › Doug Adams Mod Alexandra Huberson • 2 hours ago It's been right under our noses for over a decade! See, that's why I so love these works! Thanks for the kind words re: the book. An utter joy to create. Can't believe we get to do it all over again! 0 • Reply • Share › Alexandra Huberson Doug Adams • 2 hours ago That's what I call a revelation... Makes me appreciate the music and Howard Shore even more! Thank you again. 0 • Reply • Share › [*] Guest Alexandra Huberson • 3 hours ago Aaah, now I got it! 13. Renee Fleming has a great voice. The orchestration is sublime too. It sounds at times like a number from the old MGM musicals.
