  1. Fortunately for me I don't listen to any classical music, so I am able to enjoy Horner's cover versions to the fullest
  2. Yeah, it seems to have disappeared. It was previously available on iTunes and Apple Music only, probably exclusive to those platforms. Perhaps Varese pulled it so that the physical album can sell out first?
  3. The Varese re-recording is IMHO better than the OST. It's still available from Varese and on download/streaming platforms. https://www.varesesarabande.com/collections/cd-club/products/the-black-cauldron-encore-edition
  4. Scanning Intrada's back catalogue, perhaps we can also look forward to (Disney wise): Honey, I Shrunk the Kids! The Journey of Natty Gann Sonething Wicked This Way Comes (both composers) The Black Cauldron White Fang (both composers) The Island at the Top of the World Homeward Bound The Black Hole (expanded) Condorman The Last Flight of Noah's Ark Tinkerbell 1-3 A Far Off Place Night Crossing Return to Oz The Rescuers Down Under (expanded) One Little Indian Witch Mountain 1 + 2 Etc.
  5. Honey, I Blew Up the Baby! (Expanded) now also available: https://music.apple.com/gb/album/honey-i-blew-up-the-kid-original-motion-picture-soundtrack/1512826200 https://play.google.com/store/music/album?id=Bbdp6twhmycu66ajljzh6f7sqr4 https://open.spotify.com/album/4yadotupRRq4ovsA4oBTgp?si=FqnVJ-x1RxuD0sOBFpIGdA
  6. I see it was recently made available digitally in my country so I am good
  7. Thanks for that, I just discovered a new toy! Now to dig out those old 400x400 covers from 1998...
  8. Someone at FSM posted a custom cover for this over here: https://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=138846&forumID=1&archive=0&pageID=13&r=913#bottom
  9. I know. I was being tongue in cheek
  10. Isn't that what sound effects are for?
  11. Or ones that aren't musically illiterate. Anyway, lest this thread devolve into a hate on Hans session, another one I question getting was the Intrada expansion of Clash of the Titans - for which I blame the advertising copy, the gorgeous key art and the involvement of the LSO I think the short OST presentation would have served me much better.
  12. To reference Barry again, he's just not a good dramatist.
  13. It is, as long as you supplement it with the far more robust Kunzel recording of the End Titles.
  14. In the Moviola doc, John Barry said that the problem with the newer generation of composers is that they have this attitude [paraphrased from memory]: "I've got this really cool idea" and then they have the synthesizers going and whatnot and I [Barry] am asking "but what is the scene about dramatically, you need to answer that question first before you approach it with music. They don't lead with their dramatic sense." He specifically referred to it as being "on dangerous ground".
  15. This is exactly the problem Hans.
  16. It's very sucky that they did, after I got my hopes up. In any case, ten titles isn't exactly going to fill the coffers, they should have added more and given it a chance. The masters are just sitting in their archives anyway. I listed some likely titles here: https://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=115196&forumID=1&archive=0
  17. It's the musical equivalent of being beaten into submission.
  18. There is a tiny little synth flourish at the beginning of ST: TMP which sounds just like something that Jerry could have written, so works for me. There are no SFX in (or out) of the other tracks.
  19. https://music.apple.com/gb/album/time-warp/108119256 It sounds nothing like the original, or any other rendition I have heard.
  20. It's something about the fact that the brass suddenly becomes pianissimo then slowly fades in again at about the 12 to the 16th note of the main theme. It just does not sound right. I couldn't listen past the first minute. Yes JW's rendition was terribly sluggish (a bit like his SpaceCamp) which was disappointing, as his Alien was the boss. Kunzel's ST: TMP was way better, as was his Battlestar Galactica.
  21. The ST: TMP rendition on this one is very strange indeed, which is especially disappointing as it uses the LSO. What's also odd is the front cover lists "Theme from The Russia House" and "Love Theme from Forever Young" while the rest of the films are just listed by their titles. My OCD can't deal.
  22. I know I'm taking my life into my hands in saying this but, this is a fantastic JG comp to get: https://www.amazon.com/Jerry-Goldsmith-Years-Film-Music/dp/B0009KIYDG
