  1. Ahh, so it must be the statement of the Erebor theme at the end of "Fire and Water" that underscores this. Tis.
  2. I guess I should just have bought a physical copy of the Special Edition yesterday
  3. Is that not the same theme heard about 3:30 in The Darkest Hour? I thought it was, but I'm probably wrong. Could still be related to Bilbo nevertheless. Hmmm that passage sounds more like related to Thorin and the dwarves perhaps? It is similar to the music in AUJ when Thorin is wounded after his charge and the dwarves are reacting in slow motion to Azog pummeling him about. And that I always thought sounded like temp tracked with the sombre music for the Retreat from TTT when Aragorn is retreating back to the Hornburg. There's a bit where the Ocrs break into Dale and the people of Laketown make a retreat. Chronology wise I think it lines up in such a way so that that could be what it underscores. Wait, Doug doesn't know something about a piece IN the film? Quick, mark the calendar! Although, if he doesn't know it, it's probably an edit. He said "I believe it's an original suite, but the credits weren't in place when I last saw it. (Still used DOS temp credits.)"
  4. Right - 1:00-2:08 of 'Battle for the Mountain', and then the first couple of minutes or so of 'Sons of Durin', until the end of the grand rendition of Thorin's theme. I also wanted to know if there was music between the House of Durin and Thorin's themes in the film. I'd be surprised if they went into one another like that, given there's apparently a scene where Thorin and Dain meet up and briefly discuss their plan. The bit from Battle for the Mountain is in as far as I remember. Sons of Durin is also in and as far as I know there's no gaps between the two themes. The cue starts with the Dwarves finally leaving the mountain and making the charge, the focus is kind of on the group as a whole. After that it switches focuses to Thorin. I'm not saying Thorin and Dain don't converse... I just don't remember it but it could have been underscored by the second half of Thorin's theme if it happened.
  5. I'll be seeing it again Friday when it goes on general release (and again on Saturday). I'm happy to answer all questions you have but I wish I'd heard the OST more times before seeing the film last night I mean, I only found out yesterday at 1:30 that I was going. Otherwise I'd have have taken questions on here so I could listen out for stuff!
  6. So Ironfoot might be an earlier alternate then? I dunno tbh. When will other people see this by the way? Surely someone will see it before I see it again?
  7. Ok, so Doug reckons the suite is original but it wasn't in place when he saw the film in October.
  8. Wrong! It's a unique album style track combining elements of both that track AND Gilraen's Memorial Ah, yeah, my bad. Still, nothing that isn't found on the FOTR CR! FOTR TTT ROTK AUJ DOS BOFA Thank you, for the second time today!
  9. I know. Every time I listen to the CRs I wonder how I made do with the OSTs for so long I don't suppose anybody has a list of all the trailer music used for the 6 films? Most of it is rubbish but it'd be nice to have it all the same.
  10. Why is Kili's hair the most disturbing thing in the picture for me? Elrond though. That's believable.
  11. Yeah, that was my thinking, I was just wondering if they'd have liner notes or something. Just wanted to see if there was anything related to these film scores that I didn't already have. Also getting Creating the Lord of the Rings Symphony DVD which I've heard is poor but it's 4.99 so I won't complain too much.
  12. Getting the Return of the King limited edition for Xmas. Are the other two worth tracking down? Completist reasons aside. Is there extended liner notes or anything? I'm getting RotK purely because of the DVD.
  13. Not on the OST Huh? The Legolas and Tauriel fight in Bard's house? That's on CD ... That "theme" is reprised in TBoFA and that isn't on the OST though.
  14. Yeah, that matches up exactly with the timings for An Unexpected Journey and The Desolation of Smaug. Somehow seems a shame to break the tradition of having the same theme for each title card in a series. I suppose it would have been an abrupt transition from traditional Shire music to the destruction of Laketown. He could have come up with some Smaug/Shire fusion, though! Yeah I know what you mean but The Shire theme really wouldn't have worked.
  15. Oh by the way, I saw someone asking about a hint at the History of the Ring theme in one of the early tracks on the OST. You've probably worked it out by now but yes, there's a moment involving the ring early on and you get a brief hint at that theme.
  16. Answered this somewhere else I think. Fire and Water is the first thing we hear. The bit from 0:53 is what plays over The Hobbit and as far as I can remember we hear the Erebor theme over The Battle of Fire Armies title.
  17. Not on the OST Oh cool. It isn't as long as the version from DoS but it is there and underscores some of the Legolas fight. Or at least I thought I heard it anyway!
  18. Yeah, I think that's quite probable, even if we only get a book. I think that if we do get CRs, there'll still be one year between each release, and they'll be released yet again during Christmas time. These are expensive products, and they know people wouldn't be able to afford all three if they'd release them over a year, or at least with closer release dates than the LOTR ones. If they release them around Christmas, they make for a perfect gift, and people who can't afford them can ask their relatives to buy the CRs for them for Christmas. Remember Doug's tweet about a year of near-impossible to keep deadlines. Something bigger is in the works, may not just be the book, which I assume Doug worked on for quite a while now. Well he is also working on the other book on the early days of film music. I wonder when it will be released as it will be no doubt fascinating stuff. Same. I know next to nothing about that era of film music but I'd buy the book off the strength of his Lord of the Rings one.
  19. Definitely! It shall now live in a little drawer where I keep all my concert tickets. Kinda bummed I don't have the full set now as I had to wait and see AUJ on opening night
  20. Smaug's theme. It's on the album. Starts about 0:53 in Fire and Water. The Shire theme would have been really out of place. The first scene could literally have been the next scene in DoS. These are my tickets from last night by the way. I wish all cinema tickets had this much effort put into them! Last years were equally as cool.
