I busted out laughing at the opening credits. Amazing.

I don't think Jackson has lost all artistic merit but it's clear he's taken a dive since the early 2000's. Namely he's forgotten how to edit a movie, though to be honest there were early traces of that with the ending to Return of the King. I still like some of the films he's made of late, including King Kong despite it being an hour and a half too long. He's not George Lucas but he should not have made The Hobbit.

There was some strong acting from most of the leads. Thorin, Gandalf, Bard, and Thranduil were very well portrayed. Out of the other dwarves Balin was great. The standout though is Martin Freeman who was perfect as Bilbo. It's a shame he gets lost among the extraneous stuff. The movies would have been immeasurably better if they focused on him as the real main character.

All of these are tenouttaten scores.

I hope the current 3D trend as a whole is petering out. It's purely a marketing fad that doesn't add much to the viewing experience in my opinion.

This one felt over extended, of course, but it also somehow felt incomplete at the same time. I imagine there are a lot of important pieces that will be on the extended edition.

I really have to check that out.
Skyrim is an incredible score.

One great movie trilogy, one not so great. I've still found some enjoyment out of The Hobbit films but it is largely because of my affection for Jackson's Rings trilogy that I have been disappointed. Those movies meant a lot to me and still do, albeit in a different way than they used to. Whereas before I preferred the gigantic spectacle of Return of the King I now prefer the smaller Fellowship, which I think is definitely the best out of all of them. Now I've gotten to the point where I'm kind of sick of Jackson's Middle-Earth and that sucks. But I'm definitely going to see The Hobbit Part 3 and at this point just have to latch on to what good is there.

I saw it in 70mm, had to go downtown to see it.
I'm very fortunate to have seen it in true IMAX 70mm at a theater fifteen minutes from where I live. One of less than twenty in the whole country.

Oh no the pattern is broken! Broken, broken, we've got a broken pattern here!
See? Nobody cares!
Whaddya some kind of English major?
-
Not jazzed about the title. It sounds like a tagline and breaks the pattern set by the previous first entries in the two trilogies. Their titles started with an article, then an adjective, and then the noun. A New Hope. The Phantom Menace. The Force Awakens doesn't fit into that pattern.

Marc has done lots of videos you would enjoy, DT. Check them out here:
Seconded. Anyone who hasn't, subscribe. Marc's another wizard of great talent.

I guess I'm gonna be seeing Marvel movies for the rest of my life.

It was a pretty good trailer but I wouldn't call it great, which is weird to say given how hyped it is and how enjoyable the first was.

That's some tremendous preasure on Snyder's shoulders. If Batman vs Superman doesn't deliver, all these plans could go down the drain
That's the biggest problem with their plan. Marvel doing the solo origin movies first gave them a safety net; if something didn't work they could recalibrate for the eventual team film. DC doesn't have that option, they're going straight for Justice League with only one prior release. If Dawn of Justice doesn't deliver they'll be in big trouble and they're current odds aren't the best given Man of Steel's shortcomings and Zach Snyder's fierce mediocrity as a director.

Any Tim and Eric fans around here? It's a very love it or hate it experience. I happen to fall into the first category.
I consider myself a pretty big fan of theirs, though not everything they do works for me. Most of it does and when it does its some of the funniest stuff in the world for me. This new series they've been doing is somewhat of a departure for them and I think has had varying degrees of success.

Angela's Ashes

"Christopher Nolan screened a print of The Right Stuff (1983) for the crew before the filming started. "
I thought this was quite interesting. I am very fond of that movie
He screened Blade Runner for his crew before shooting Batman Begins
The narrows in Begins looked clearly inspired by Blade Runner's LA.

It's alright. Very uneven. Some things are good, namely the two leads, but other things just don't work. But I think it could grow into something very good if it plays to its strengths.

Very Spielbergian.

Some fan made posters:
Richard Davies
Joe Vetoe
Harlan Elam
Why is it that fan made posters are usually better than the official ones? -
It was probably The Lord of the Rings, actually. I might have been into film scores before then but that's the first one I remember falling in love with that wasn't done by John Williams.

Hook. First movie I ever remember seeing. Must've been around two years of age and watched it on VHS or TV. Star Wars and Indy couldn't have been that far behind, though I can't really place when I was first acquainted with them. It's like they were always there in some way or another.

Looks a lot like the one from the upcoming game Arkham Knight.

Overall I like this new design. The only thing that bugs me is the exposed turret there at the front. Gotta say I prefer the Tumbler, though. It somehow looks more streamlined compared to this industrial look.

Another wasted death. This show is squandering the winning streak it had going through much of Season 4 and the beginning of this season.
