  1. Finally got to this! It is a nice edit. But it wasn't what I was thinking it was. Isn't there an even longer ending note for Hedwig's Theme there that was used in some online game way back @Jay? How does that play into the End Credits piece?
  2. Because it came out...17 years ago. Gah. I remember seeing it for the first time.... There it is. The nostalgia
  3. I assumed the teaser was. He wrote that based on the book for a sizzle reel (aka trailer) for Warner Brothers before hired on as composer. Coke Ad sounds like a brand deal made once they had something to show companies to partner up.
  4. It was indeed hilarious so far. I haven't made it to the end yet, but the edit you described sounds fantastic. I was disappointed to hear the LLL version mimics the film and has the short Hedwig's theme note.
  5. It is original music written by JW for the trailer...and the first recordings ever of Hedwigs theme.
  6. Meh. Even as someone who’s a fan of the series, I’m not overly attached to those themes.
  7. Yeah. I’m aware of both of those things. Credence’s return was set-up, but not handled with any suspense or gravitas. How does he come back from that? There’s no indication that he suffered at all from that and no difficulty either. There’s no gap either. He’s just back. Similar to Jacob’s memory. Just back. Compare with something like Lord of the Rings. It at least takes Gandalf a bit to return and it’s made out to be a big deal. As far as Tina, I didn’t say there was no reason for why she was closed off. There is, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s the same arc she has in movie one. Just because there’s a flimsy reason doesn’t give you an excuse to make the character immediately go through the same arc. Last Jedi had this problem with Finn. He spends Force Awakens going from running away to fighting. Then does it all over again in Last Jedi. Would it not have been better to have Tina’s struggle and conflict revolve around her sisters turn to the other side and how that’s affecting her (despite how out of character that was for Queenie). Does Tina even react? I don’t recall. Instead they did the same arc with her and Newt again with a slightly different reason just because it worked the first time
  8. Jacobs Memory. Queenies weird personality change. Tina becoming closed off again. Credence is dead, now he’s fine (with no explanation). Grindelwald is captured. Now he’s not. Why should I get invested if I can’t be sure any character change will stick around for more than a moment? Will the twist at the end of CoG just turn out to be a lie? EDIT: It would be like if you did the character thing in PS of Ron making fun of Hermione and her getting hurt only to eventually join the trio and be appreciated. Then, in CoS her and Ron are having problems again or something. And then she’d have to get reintegrated into the group again or something.
  9. Oh I know, but they’ve already screwed that’s up. Why bother putting characters through arcs in movie one just to undo them in the first half hour of movie two? Its hard to be invested dramatically in anything if I can’t even be sure it won’t all get undone for no reason
  10. Judging by Crimes of Grindelwald I don't think we're going to get anywhere near the cohesive narrative that we did with the Potter films. I don't think a throughline could fix that either.
  11. Not the mention the potential set-up for The Elder Wand and the Deathly Hallows That's what I'm hoping. Honestly Crimes of Grindelwald was borderline the Hobbit for me. Too much unnecessary crap trying to tie in Potter for fans.
  12. I'm disappointed Desplat didn't return, but I've liked McCreary recently, so we'll see. I'm cautiously optimistic though.
  13. Does it have to? That's one of the things that bugged me about The Hobbit trilogy was that it was too connected to Lord of the Rings.
  14. Oh yes. Absolutely. CoS has some of the best tracking I've heard.
  15. Oh don't get me into the Giacchino arguments on here. XD
  16. Ah yes. The same Ben Burtt who drowned out The Kronos Wartet in Into Darkness. I know him well.
  17. Goodness. Did a casual soundtrack fan do the music editing?
  18. If they were planned to be tracked from the beginning then probably not. But I have no idea. Oh great. I haven't tackled Titanic yet. That one sounds like fun.
  19. These movies sound horrible. Why would they make a sequel?
  20. Hmmm...you know...I think I may have heard about that
  21. There are some music edits I've heard in big films that ignore rhythm too. I suppose they had to, but ugh. There's a very jarring one in Super 8. Half-Blood Prince has a messy In Noctem edit during Dumbledore's Speech too.
  22. Back more on-topic. I've been going back through the Prisoner of Azkaban film and noticed that 1MD Knight Bus not only has a section dialed out (when Harry sees the chandelier on the bus, etc.) but there's a pretty horrid music edit in the music that is there I hadn't noticed before. This cue is even longer than I thought I guess. Lol true. So many don't though. You'd be shocked how many poor music edits I hear from fellow picture editors. It's a relief to know some picture editors who are also musicians that get it.
