I don't think it's a matter of just highlights missing, as others have said it's the story and progression of the themes missing. The fact that we can't hear the heroic version of Kylo's theme on the soundtrack at all is a big whiff. Even just including "Parents" would have increased the quality of the album in a big way (but really they should have had "Parents" "Coming Together" and especially the cue that plays after that). Probably a controversial opinion but I kind of feel like while Anthem of Evil is not a bad piece by any means but ends up feeling like a poor use of space on the disc when so much is missing. But then I was always more of a 'want to hear what was in the film' kind of guy.

The Rise of Skywalker The Rise of Skywalker OST Album Discussion
DominicCobb replied to Jay's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Personally I didn't think so at all. Regardless, their relationship and their connection ended up being central to this trilogy in a big way, romance or not. Williams's biggest missed opportunity on these films if you ask me. -

I will say the fact that they did Reylo makes it more unfortunate than ever that JW didn't create a "Rey and Kylo" theme for TLJ (and TROS by extension). -
The Rise of Skywalker The Rise of Skywalker OST Album Discussion

The finale suite almost recalls a Film Night concert performance, no? I've only seen him conduct once but he did The Rebellion is Reborn, the Star Wars Main Title/Finale, and The Imperial March. This kind of feels like that, you've got the new suites and then the greatest hits. -
Anybody have any idea how much of the missing stuff is actually just tracked recordings? On first watch it's hard to keep track when there's so many (and when some might just be rerecordings of old arrangements). For instance, Zorii talking to Poe, is that a new recording of the AOTC cue? Something like the use of Lesson Two for Rey and Finn talking on the ship or Vader's death for the Death Star I feel confident saying is tracked because it sounds like they've been edited as well. Even the most recently posted clip "I Know You," is that a tracked recording at the end of the clip from TFA (from after the landing on Starkiller base)?

Everyone always falls back on this to dispute any quote made by JJ. Yes, he said Cumberbatch was not playing Khan to avoid a spoiler. As far as I know this is the only time he's ever outright lied about something in his films. Let me know when someone comes up with literally one other example before I assume everything he says is a lie.

The pre order for Target has been up since at least this morning, already got mine. Probably safe to say this is the cover art (minus the sticker). -

Isn't that a Rock Band keyboard? -
The TFA end credits are an interesting question indeed, because there are essentially three different suites: the one Williams wrote that made the soundtrack, the edited one that made it into the theatrical film, and the edited one that made it onto the blu-ray. I definitely wonder what happened there. TLJ is another one, but I figure the difference between what's on the soundtrack and what's in the film is more just a case of editing for the album.

Well, it's hard to make a clear comparison because there's so much misinformation going around with TROS, it's hard to know what's true and what's being blown out of proportion. I don't know exactly when TFA stopped doing reshoots, but I remember there were some well into August of that year at least. In Abrams's commentary for the film he mentions many little shots here and there there were added in reshoots, things that could have been added who knows how late. For TROS, maybe the really late reshoots are little things like that, but even that sort of thing would of course affect the score, but maybe not enough to require new recordings? It's all guesswork, really. One thing I always wonder when a movie like this isn't exactly finished yet, how much tinkering can be done at this point? The runtime has been locked in for weeks, and the film has a rating (both necessary for tickets to go on sale). Any more tinkering I'd imagine would have to be minor things. I wonder if the end credits are ever reduced or lengthened to account for different cut that needed to fit an already established runtime.
