There will be no executions, here! I love "Hoosiers", "Link", and "Extreme Prejudice", but "Legend", "Gremlins", and "Supergirl" leave me rather lukewarm. It's horses for courses, K.K. Eventhough I don't own Supergirl. I enjoy all those scores you mentioned as well excluding Legend (never seen that film or heard both scores attached to it). I was just rewatching Extreme Prejudice last night and enjoying Goldsmith's score. Both the film and score are underrated, imho. -
Kritzerland To Release Poltergeist II Complete 08-26-13
lonzoe replied to Ollie's topic in General Discussion
According to haineshisway fromthe FSM froums. With it being a 1500 pressing and a Goldsmith title that's a sequel to a popular horror classic. I'm not surprised this is selling fast.Though I expected it to sell out last night. -

One of David Newman's best scores, imho. It's a shame he doesn't get offered movies of this scale often. I would love to hear what he could do with an MCU film COUGHGaurdians Of The GalaxyCOUGH. -
Anybody here been checking out AMC's Low Winter Sun? I'm intrigued by it so far.

Kritzerland To Release Poltergeist II Complete 08-26-13
lonzoe replied to Ollie's topic in General Discussion
They're saying on their site that it ships on the 2nd week of October. And it's not even Sept. yet. WTF? The samples aren't working for me and is causing to my computer to freeze whenever I play one.. -
I figured Bates would end up scoring it but was hoping Marvel would step in and hire somebody else. It's funny how Marvel stepped in when an inspiring choice like Burwell was cast for the Thor sequel to replace him with Iron Man 3's Brian Tyler, but seem to be content with Bates. Especially since he's already written music for Gunn to film to. Whatever I'm still interested in the movie, however.

With Bates scoring GOTG and Jackman rumored to score Winter Soldier instead of Silvestri returning. I feel Marvel's taking a step back in the wrong direction. But who knows what they'll come up with. Might be amazing or might be terrible. I'll try to give them both the benefit of the doubt as tough as it might be for me. -

"The Construction" is an exciting and inspiring track but there's a lot more to this score than some give it credit for. It's a very well put together score, imho. The main theme develops with the protagonists and their journey to explore the unknown. The theme for Dick Miller's character becomes apart of the main character's (very young Ethan Hawke) theme as the film/score progresses. Like for example in "Gifts/Home Flight" another excellent track. Goldsmith develops the themes and takes us on a journey with 'em as the film does with the young protagonists, imo. -
Great news about Wyatt Earp. And course Reloaded. Too bad the film version of the track, where Neo's doing his "Superman thing" wasn't available. I've been wanting to hear that seperate from the movie for a long time. Oh well. I'm still excited for this release regardless. Never expected an expansion. At least not this soon anyway.

No problem. Glad I could help. Jerry's Explorers score might be a lot to take in on the first listen b/c of.how rich in orchestrations, scope, and scale of the overall score has. Therefore you might not catch everything on the first listen. It took me a few listens to realize the synth-y piece that plays after the first ten seconds of main title (as well as in a few other tracks) was also the main theme. I used to believe those were two seperate themes/motifs. I think it's definitely worth another listen. -

Though I've never grew up on the film. I still enjoyed the score very much and understand why it's held in such high regard. I'm not the best person to explain film scores or music in general. I'm not a film music expert or student eventhough I'm a fan of film scores. I'll do my best to identify some of Jerry's themes in Explorers without using the correct music terminology. This score has plenty of motifs and themes. The electronic piece that opens the main title is one of the themes for the main protagonist. It also represents the dreams and communication the character shares with the aliens. It goes through many instrumentations/variations throughout the score. It's even played on a harmonica in a few tracks. Dick Miller's minor character has a theme that's sort of melancholic you can hear it in the opening of "More Dreams" and in the middle of "Let's Go". The alien Wak has a playful theme (Wak's Boogie) which can be heard in a few tracks ("Unused MainTitle", "Crazed Bubble/Fuse Box", halfway through "She Likes Me", in the middle of "Have A Nice Trip") as well. The score also has a big triumphant theme that represents the protagonists goal to discover alien life or whatever. That's what I feel it represents anyway. It can be heard in "The Construction", which I remember being used in some trailers back in the 90s, and "Have A Nice Trip" as well as plenty of other tracks, but those two tracks make great use of it. In fact you can hear most of the themes/motifs in "Have A Nice Trip" which wraps up the album nicely. -
Looking forward to Reloaded. Autographs shmautographs. I just care about the excellent music.

Since the film takes place around Christmas. I'll probably wait around the holidays to pick this up. Plus there's other releases I want to purchase at the moment. Hopefully this won't sell out by then. That 2000 units has me a little worried.

Jerry Goldsmith's Gladiator (Unused Score) - New Intrada Feb 19 2013
lonzoe replied to Jay's topic in General Discussion
I really enjoyed what Goldsmith came up with for this. A shame it got rejected. His music underscores the raw and urban setting of the movie quite well, imo. Eventhough some found it cheesy, I found the motif for the protagonist very catchy. That motif really sums up the protagonist as this up and coming boxer with the heart of a champion, imo.The melancholic love theme was also well done. Though it's very somber for a love theme, but it's still very moving, imo. Some of the electronics remind me of his underrated Extreme Prejudice and Hoosiers score (as well as the upbeat moments from that particular score). The unused score really helps me picture the movie in a different perspective. I've seen the film many years ago and can't recall much of Brad Fiedel's score. So I can't really compare 'em, but I really enjoyed Goldsmith's unused score. It might be a little synth heavy, funky, and upbeat for some. And the electronics are very mid-late 80s to early 90s Goldsmith, but again it works (or could've worked) for the story and tone of the movie, imo anyway. -

Hans Zimmer's The Lone Ranger (Disney/Intrada CD)
lonzoe replied to Jay's topic in General Discussion
T.J. Lindgren wrote additional music for Epic, Frankenweenie, Real Steel and Wolfman. Don Harper and Kenneth Burgomaster composed some additional music for Ang Lee's Hulk. Shirley Walker also wrote a few cues for Nightbreed, if I remember well. Danny always credited everyone, btw. Walker only wrote one cue for Nightbreed. I think it was called "Charge of the Berserkers" http://walker.cinemusic.net/interview.html -

Most of the score is very tranquil, which gives sort of a "Zen" vibe. I don't often hear that side of Goldsmith. -

Hans Zimmer's The Lone Ranger (Disney/Intrada CD)
lonzoe replied to Jay's topic in General Discussion
So I guess this quote by Hans from http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1g4wkt/i_am_hans_zimmer_ask_me_anything/ about his Lone Ranger score was BS then. "Rango was the parody of the western, which we did before we did the serious one, which is The Lone Ranger - so in a funny way, we got our parody out of the way first. But ultimately, Lone Ranger gave me the opportunity to go and write a wonderful, old-fashioned western score." -
Matrix Reloaded 2CD Complete Score coming from La-la Land!
lonzoe replied to Jay's topic in General Discussion
Wow! Great news about Reloaded. I'm a big fan of all the Matrix scores. When I saw that the Reloaded score was getting a 2-CD expansion. I had to get away from my computer and walk around to keep my composure, b/c my anticipation for this score is overwhelming. Then add Revolutions getting an expansion in the near future is also very exciting b/c that was my favorite score from 2003. Looking forward to getting both.- 277 replies
