  1. I have the Gerhardt CDs too except for the Star Wars/Close Encounters CD. Skywalker's sound quality is first-rate and some tracks are very good, IMO as a Star Wars specialist . I like "Here They Come" more on this CD than some other versions. --------------- Alex Cremers
  2. If you look at the "behind the scenes" documentaries you'll see indeed a very passionless man. What is worse is that everybody from ILM treats him like a god. Nobody is defending his or her ideas. George enters a room and all he needs to say is: "That's great but could you make Yoda jump like a mad rabbit when he's duelling Dooku?" And they instantly agree as if a mad jumping Yoda is the most natural thing there is. Looks like the work of a dictator to me. Maybe that's what's wrong with his movies. He surrounds himself with butt licking personnel. It really shows. ---------------- Alex Cremers
  3. Dark City stole every bit of atmosphere from BR . Dark City is a phony. ---------------- Alex Cremers
  4. The Fifth Element looked more fake. Ed Wood is the fakest of them all. ---------------- Alex Cremers
  5. But the Oscars are like the Universal Consensus and Interplanetary Verdict. It's an industry's consensus. I thought you were all against that. It even had made you angry a few times. Now it is important? ---------------- Alex Cremers
  6. Morlock, an Oscar is just like an opinion, it's not important. ---------------- Alex Cremers
  7. Whether that is a rip-off or not is very disputable. But it was done well. Best FX in the movie. --------------- Alex Cremers
  8. Pollock (2000) with and by Ed Harris. Interesting although it left me a tad emotionally remote. ---------------- Alex Cremers
  9. The city of Corusant was good. George should've let the whole movie take place in the busy streets of Corusant. Yes, in the air, on the streets and in its buildings. Two long hours with buzzing activity in the background! Just like he did with American Graffiti. It would've been at least more interesting. ---------------- Alex Cremers
  10. Opinions, opinions. Let me tell you what I think about opinions. A man lives all his life on an deserted island. He never saw any form of entertainment except for a falling coconut, every once in a while. Then suddenly civilization discovers this man. They capture him and fly back to the continent. When they arrive they take him to the theater, strap him in a seat and force him to watch Attack of the Clones. After the movie he is interviewed by the press. "What is your opinion on Attack of the Clones?" The man, with his heart still pounding in his throat, thinks for a while and then says: "It's the best damn movie I ever saw!" The crowd cheers. An opinion is formed by experience. ---------------- Alex Cremers
  11. for me a bad Star Wars movie is even worse because it should be so easy for it to not be bad. Well, it shows that making a good sci-fi film is one of the most difficult things to pull off. Even more difficult perhaps than making a good comedy. ---------------- Alex Cremers
  12. If the original is lacking something, then I guess "other versions" are a good thing. Some re-recordings have a better sound which is pretty interesting. Performance-wise, some re-recordings are as good or better than the original. I like some of the versions on the Skywalker Symphony Orchestra more than the originals. In a sense, many (or even perhaps most) of Williams Original Soundtrack CDs are re-recorded too, since they are often not the same recordings as heard in the movies. ---------------- Alex Cremers
  13. $249 for Spacecamp??? That makes it the most valuable CD in my collection!
  14. Well, they've tried to fit in but at the same time they were slowly killing their credibility. Each year a new major theatrical Disney movie and God knows how many "straight to video" (also called cheap babysitters) releases of lesser quality. Nothing was sacred anymore. Releasing titles as Jungle Book II, Peter Pan II should've told you that they were sabotaging their own ship. Suddenly Disney wasn't creating Disney magic anymore. They were after our money and thought they could get away with it by giving us second-rate crap. Now people wait for a little Pixar magic instead and usually Pixar is able to deliver. ---------------- Alex Cremers
  15. I bought more Williamses last year than in any other year. Mostly unusual and collector's stuff. ---------------- Alex Cremers
  16. Pixar not only has better stories, it also looks better than modern regular Disney. Long live CGI! ---------------- Alex Cremers
  17. when i lesten to it it's like i'm standing in the middle of the orchestra. Why can't other recordings be like that. k.M. I listened to it twice today and start to like it more than Monsignor (which was the actual reason why I bought it). Funny, today I was thinking: Hey, that sounds more like a mob theme than a priest theme. ---------------- Alex Cremers
  18. Yeah, I know what you mean. How you gonna defend John Williams as the composer of your choice after that!? ---------------- Alex Cremers
  19. Unbelievable but I think so too. It's definitely the very best submarine movie ever. And because I've first seen all the other submarine movies, I really thought I've seen it all. Then came along DAS BOOT! Now there's a submarine movie for ya! Because of the Director's Cut I'm sorta glad I skipped this movie when I was younger and the movie quite a bit shorter. ---------------- Alex Cremers
  20. I told you before. A new Star Wars trilogy is a fact. Sure, George will deny it for now, he has too, but some years after Episode III, and with technology yet again improved, George will feel the creative itch again. He's gonna wanna make up for the sequels. Can't you see that happen? The story is already in his mind and I've let you in on it before. Here it goes again. Luke Skywalker is NOT the one to bring balance to the force! There is another. I can see the trailer already, folks. Just wait and see. ---------------- Alex Cremers
  21. I agree. Sometimes I think I just had it with SFX. I'm feeling that it doesn't work for me anymore. But wait! Last week I watched and enjoyed CE3K and afterwards I viewed the deleted scenes. Although I didn't think much of the SE ending (where they show us the inside of the mothership), seeing it again after all these years made my jaw drop big time. What I saw really pleased my eyes. Something I haven't felt since...(walking away now). I still think it's a justified to put this scene in the "deleted scenes section" but I confess that I love the FX more than any CGI today. ---------------- Alex Cremers
  22. What do you mean by aged? The make-up, the clothes, the sets? If so, then everything will get aged, except when a certain retro style is back in fashion. However Alien looks (the crew, ship's interior) like it was made yesterday, only better, because the direction is far more daring than what we see today. Of course, you'll need to see a restored copy of it. Blade Runner ages also well. Luckily, Harrison Ford isn't wearing his hear in an 80s fashion. Thanks to Scott's vision the film looks very 40s and therefore more timeless. But I don't care if a film looks like it's from another decade. I think 2001 looks gorgeous despite its enormous 60s influences. ---------------- Alex Cremers
  23. You mean, the Universal Consensus and Interplanetary Verdict? Jeez, Morlock, that was a joke! There's no such thing as the UCIV. I thought that was pretty clear. But Alien and Blade Runner ARE still classics, whether you like it or not. Hook isn't. ---------------- Alex Cremers
  24. Saying someone's wrong is not an insult, Morlock. Saying someone's stupid is very much an insult. My mind is my own. My opinions are my own. What gave you the idea that it's not? You think I read "Rate the Movies" before I form an opinion? You defend yourself really badly, Morlock. That bit about "bad quality" and "cheezy 80s" totally makes no sense. It only proofs that you actually DON'T like the SE versions. Restoring a movie is not the same as tinkering with it. The Original Trilogy looks just as fresh after a good clean up. So what you've said is: Hey, the image of the SE is better so I guess the movie is better too. Good reasoning! Of course, if you prefer the circus on Mos Eisley with all the dinosaurs walking around over the original, then all further discussion is useless. ---------------- Alex Cremers
