  3. NEW EPISODE SOUNDTRACK ALLEY: JURASSIC PARK http://www.cinematicsound.net/soundtrack-alley-jurassic-park/ The seventh episode of SOUNDTRACK ALLEY here on CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO is a discussion between Erik Woods and Randy Andrews about the film and score to the 1993 Steven Spielberg groundbreaking action/adventure film, JURASSIC PARK, based on the 1990 novel of the same name by Michael Crichton. The film stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Richard Attenborough, Bob Peck, Martin Ferrero, BD Wong, Samuel L. Jackson, Wayne Knight, Joseph Mazzello and Ariana Richards. The film takes place on Isla Nublar, located off Central America’s Pacific Coast near Costa Rica. There, wealthy businessman John Hammond and a team of genetic scientists have created a wildlife park of de-extinct dinosaurs. When industrial sabotage leads to a catastrophic shutdown of the park’s power facilities and security precautions, a small group of visitors and Hammond’s grandchildren struggle to survive and escape the perilous island. The original score for the film was composed and conducted by John Williams, performed by The Hollywood Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. The original soundtrack recording was released on MCA Records in 1993 and was expanded by La La Land Records in 2017 that coupled this score along with Williams’ other score in the series, THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK. Enjoy! https://linktr.ee/cinematicsoundradio -Erik-
  4. It's just an opinion. It's not law. James has been a defender of the "properly curated/produced soundtrack album" for years so it comes to no ones surprise that he would agree with someone else opinion who supports his own. And it certainly doesn't justify one of the most popular current film composers to go off on him.
  5. BTW, that dude ain’t a producer. I got duped. Very embarrass but he’s still an ass!
  6. It’s a general comment meaning that no score other than the greatest in the world deserves a four hour release. Gary and James did not judge Justice League at all.
  7. Because there is a history between Zimmer and James. James writes a bad review, Zimmer cries like a baby. James writes a bad review of a JXL score, Zimmer cries like a baby. I have no problem if a composer has an issue with a review but man, reach out to the writer privately, offer your opinion, maybe give him some facts that he might have missed and let the reviewer admen the review. Kindness is a magical thing. BTW, I'm no saint and I really do have to change my ways as well but Zimmer is just a big bully and this isn't the first time he's done this to someone. Or we are busy doing something else. This has nothing to do with laziness.
  8. And here's more piling on this time from a Justice League producer. Classy! I don't have time to screenshot the whole thing. It's a massive thread.
  9. I know someone who knows Zimmer personally. It's Zimmer behind the keyboard. -Erik-
  10. Mikael Carlsson is the owner of MovieScore Media. And was also the editor of the magazine Music from the Movies. Before that he was a film music reviewer and wrote various film music articles for Film Score Monthly, Soundtrack, etc. Well, James just apologized to Zimmer, which took balls. He didn't have to do that but this is what he wrote. "I realise now that I wrote words some years ago about Tom Holkenborg that were particularly mean-spirited and unkind. I am ashamed of that and apologise to him unreservedly. I’ve written about film music for 25 years because it’s my passion, but I’m not talented enough to actually write it so all I can do is write about it. It costs me money to do it and I can say categorically that I’ve never been interested in click bait. Opinions expressed were honestly-held - but sometimes poorly-expressed. So, really, sorry to Tom (in the very unlikely event he is reading)." Zimmer needs to step up RIGHT NOW and do the same. Actually, he should have been the first one to reach out and apologize. Shameful. -Erik-
  11. Are you a friend of Mikael Carlsson's on Facebook? If so, it's all there. If not, then this is how it began.
  12. That's not what happened here. James didn't judge the score at all. He agreed with a comment about album length. If you know James at all you'd know that he is a staunch defender of properly curated albums for listening. James would have agreed with the same comment if it was John Williams who had announced that his The Book Thief score was going to be a four hour presentation. The entire thread was actually quite negative towards JXL and whatnot so Zimmer put the first person he saw in his crosshairs and fired. James was that victim and Hans decided to let his ego dictate his actions. And what he did was nothing but a personal attack on James; a guy who has been a fan of Zimmer's work since the beginning and has written glowing reviews of Zimmer's work as well. But no, Zimmer had to focus on the negative. Zimmer was a bully yesterday. Zimmer's the one at fault here and bullying should never be tolerated. Here's something a friend of mine wrote yesterday in response to this, which I agree with. 1) Zimmer is one of the most powerful and influential film composers of this century. 2) someone states that a 20-hour release of one Zimmer's protégés may be a bit much. 3) James says "exactly". Literally. That is ALL he says. 4) Zimmer, the famous, massively influential billionaire (much of whose work James has admired since the beginning by the way) comes back with THIS. Yes. That is bullying. These days. Yesterdays. Tomorrow. ANY day. And that has led a hard working family man who writes reviews for the love of it (for more that two decades) to hang it all up... although I'm sure he'll be back sometime but it won't be the same James writing new reviews and that's terribly, terribly sad. -Erik-
  13. RE-RECORDING GOLDSMITH is now back online. http://www.cinematicsound.net/re-recording-goldsmith/ Enjoy!
  14. Update: I had to take down the Goldsmith program. I have to correct some of factual errors in my read. Sorry about that. The show will be back up later today or tomorrow.
  15. I'm just going to dump all of my podcast notifications in this thread from now. I assume you'll like that because you guys like to keep things tidy around here which I can appreciated. Ok... here's my update for today. NEW EPISODE - RE-RECORDING GOLDSMITH http://www.cinematicsound.net/re-recording-goldsmith/ On today’s episode of THE FLAGSHIP SHOW on the CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PODCAST NETWORK, we’ll be paying tribute to legendary composer Jerry Goldsmith. Goldsmith was born on February 10th, 1929 and would have turned 92 years young today. 16. All I can offer at this moment is Jon Broxton’s superb review of the score which mirrors my thoughts about the score. https://moviemusicuk.us/2020/12/29/wonder-woman-1984-hans-zimmer/
  17. Right... that's what I said above. If there aren't enough eligible re-recordings then they go into a category called BEST ARCHIVAL RELEASE – RE-RELEASE OR RE-RECORDING. If there *are* enough eligible re-recordings then that archival release category is labelled as BEST ARCHIVAL RELEASE – RE-RELEASE. -Erik-
  18. We go over this every year. If there aren't enough re-recordings in a given year then we add them to the ARCHIVAL RELEASE – RE-RELEASE OR RE-RECORDING category. That's not what we are saying at all. All that says is that they didn't get enough votes. That's democracy for ya! -Erik-
  19. If the Award bodies decided to look beyond their own noses they'd find a good helping of great films released last year. Same goes for film scores. -Erik-
  20. I don't agree but what would be the minimum amount of releases in order to give out awards according to you? -Erik-
