The Five Tones 302
Hey folks,I just watched the latest episode of Smallville, which guest starred Christopher Reeve. During Reeve's segment, I was pleasantly surprised to hear themes from Superman the Movie, composed by John Williams of course. I can't say that I was ever truly a fan of Mark Snow (Smallville's composer), but I was impressed with his faithful treatment of Williams' music, which involved some careful recreations of cue material from Superman, though how much of it was played by a real orchestra I can't say.I heard quotes of the Krypton fanfare (in its minor key variation), the "crystal" motif, and the first part of the Superman fanfare. I also recognized passages from "Leaving Home."What a nice tribute to JW as well as Reeve! Is this the first time Snow has done this for Smallville? I don't watch the show faithfully enough to know.
