Raptor Motif & DSCH Motif - Coincidence?

granted the notes are slightly different but the intent is the same, and the usage is almost identical 

 

(for those don't know Shostakovich used this motif OBSESSIVELY  (most notably string quartet 8 and Symphony 10) - the four notes spelled out his initials 

 

what are your thoughts? love both these composers

We were just talking about this and other 4-note similarities a few weeks back - who remembers the thread?

 

I think most 4-note motifs sound either like the Dies Irea or like the D-S-C-H, or sometimes both. I don't think we should make too much of such similarities, but I do enjoy noticing them.
