#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,393 Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 He would mispronounce your name at every turn...
Wojo 2,458 Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Actually, I'm more genuinely sorry that I used the engineer jargon "WRT" which means "with respect to," kicking off this misunderfusion -- which is a portmanteau of misunderstanding and confusion I created about 70 keystrokes ago.Ren's avatar is original. I like the technique. The thought I attempted to convey was that if I took a photo of myself peeking out from behind my SLR, it would be unoriginal with respect to Ren's because she did it first. I would be copying her technique, regardless of the differences, i.e. my unobscured eyeball, my mirror, and my camera -- a Canon, not a Nikon, so the battle lines are probably run even deeper. The fact that I have seen people take self-portraits using the same technique, peeking from behind their camera, on maybe one or two other websites is irrelevant. Many people take photos of their cameras...or themselves...or have avatars...or create logins to this website...or own computers...or know how to type...or draw breath...or have skin...where do we draw the line on originality?
Trent B 354 Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 The thing I hate most about FSM is that when people quote messages, the quote syntax does not include the name of the person who made the original comment. So you get this very long and picture-heavy original post, only to see it repeated on the very next post, completely italicized, just to add a "LOL" as if nobody would know what you're laughing at. Then when it's quoted again, the demarcation between original and first repeat is lost, turning the history of the conversation into muddled soup.Yes. Lukas can easily hire someone to keep up maintenance on the board if he updated it. The software he's using is seriously outdated and highly annoying. The is THE most annoying aspect of the FSM boards. The second-most annoying aspect is the lack of little icons you can click to being you to the first unread post in a thread.Agreed!Another thing too I don't know why a lot of people on there are persistant to posting HUGE ass images where it stretches the thread so much, you have to scroll over to finish reading what someone read. I mean seriously? Can't anyone just post a 600x600 image?
Wojo 2,458 Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 I would prefer they post 360,000 single pixel images.
Wojo 2,458 Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Thanks.Once you get the hang of rotating, resizing, and of course, transparencies, GIMP is your friend.
Brónach 1,330 Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 I hate Gimp. Like in Photoshop, I'm unable to do very simple tasks. The interface is a mess. So counter intuitive.Probably I just hate that kind of sofware in general. Not for me.
Wojo 2,458 Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Like any piece of powerful, difficult software, GIMP is an acquired skill. I don't use it for image creation, just modification and cleanup.
Brónach 1,330 Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Why not use Photoshop? It's not free. Meaning it's just more cumbersome to obtain for free. For not complicated tasks it's all the same, just use the one you're comfortable using. For more elaborate tasks it's good to have all the tools and go with the one that's more suited to the specifics.I have used them for cleaning and cutting, and I had a go at colouring. A pain with just a mouse and little knowledge. I was trying to emulate some wonders I've seen painting with them over dinosaur pencil sketches, simulating scaly patterns and the like. Feathers are particularly complicated.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,393 Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Look for Adobe Labs on google, there you can get a lot of Adobe beta versions.
Jay 46,245 Posted December 24, 2013 Author Posted December 24, 2013 GOOD NEWS EVERYONE!I FINALLY found the setting in the Admin Control Panel to change the allowable upload size. You are no longer limited to 50kb files no bigger than 200x300 - now the system will accept avatars up to 1000x1000 and 1000kb! (Don't worry, all avatars will still only display at a max 150px wide.)Go nuts!Richard, you have no excuse now, you can upload that Rush album cover and it will work!
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Time to brainstorm what I'll change mine to after Wednesday.
Quintus 6,499 Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 This is a brilliant plus actually. Cheers Jason!
Wojo 2,458 Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Actually I proved that the link Richard wanted to use worked fine weeks ago, and he called me a link stealer.
nightscape94 968 Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 I've had two avatars in the decade I've been on this forum, and they've both been of Wolverine. With the exception of a rare occasion where I've changed it very temporarily (like when we all changed to pics of ourselves a while back).I honestly have no idea why it's Wolverine. I just picked it all those years ago and got extremely lazy with updating it. I don't find avatars nearly as interesting as other members on this forum. Maybe I'll finally change it again. Trent B 1

It was very annoying to have to manually resize a picture to get it perfect for the forum. Thanks Jason!
Naïve Old Fart 13,027 Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Actually I proved that the link Richard wanted to use worked fine weeks ago, and he called me a link stealer.I never called you a link-stealer, I called you an avatar-stealer. There's a difference!!!!! Anyway; plenty more album covers .btw happy crimbo.
Wojo 2,458 Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Plenty more album covers, but not a single one you'll use as an avatar. I'm beginning to think you're just a very complex spambot somehow stuck in the 1970s with no capacity for learning modern technology. I bet your password is the default 1234. Trent B 1
