This really pisses me off- I think Mr. 'Willy' has proven what a nuisence guests could be.

What's the problem with having to log in as a member? I think some peoples cowerdice to take credit or responsibilty for their opinions is no excuse.

Your opinions would be apritiated.

Well sometimes i think i'm logged in but occasionally i post and i was logged out for a number of reasons. That disconnection half way through that i forgot about. Or Cookies were not turned on for example. Most members have had this problem now and again. Once you've written a post , its a pain in the ass to have log back in and re-post. So its not always people using 'guest' to hide their identity from others. Although that does happen. When it does its usually easy to see when it has been abused, by the comments.

Melange - Who hopes he is logged in as he writes this..hehehe

Yes, it should be like on most other forums, if you don't post a name, it reminds you that you have to write down a name

Yes, I agree with this, although I don't know how Ricard feels about it. At least ban this ridiculous "Willy" Guest whose been making a fool of himself with a string of potty mouth humor posts. I didn't want to post about it before because I didn't want him to get the attention, but now that it's been brought up . . .

I've never understood this coockie business. I mean don;t even try to tell me, it's all too too much to deal with right now!

Cookies are basically just boxes in a warehouse where things like passwords and member names are stored that you've recently used whiel surfing. It makes things easier when surfing. If cookies are not turned on at a cybercafe for example, you'll try to login to Jwfan and will again be told to login (even though you just did it). When cookies are turned off it means that the PC has no short term memory for many things and all hell breaks loose when you're a member of a site for example. Its a real pain.

Cookies are best turned "on"..hehehe. :sigh:

Who exactly is this 'Mr. Willy' guest? I've never seen him or any of his posts.

I personally think that we shouldn't be able to post here with out being registered.

I tend to agree with that.

Yes that's the best way to keep this sort of nonsense from happening.

I'd rather it happen in the future than to loose the freedom to post as guest. Not that I ever do.

I hate cookies. It's invasion of privacy, and on both my operating system logins (98 and XP), I have it set so I can choose to accept or deny cookies at will. Heck, I usually delete the cookies along with the cache every once in a while. It's MY computer, I decide what gets put on it, not these half-witted companies looking to make a buck by inundating you with pop ups and invading cookies.

Ok, don't mean to rant, and I know that the cookie from this forum site merely contains my login and password for convenience. True, I'd have a few more numbers under my name if I chose to log in more often, but I don't. C'est la vie.

Personally, I don't think you can keep certain people from logging in as guests any more than you can keep the rest of the general world population from achieving the same kind of anonymity. A good way to safeguard this is to make it ask you if you want to log in as guest, and then prompt you to log in. That way, we wouldn't have so many cases of "Oops, the previous post was me" or "Haha, you don't know who I am so I can piss you off all you want."

Looking back up the page, I think this is a good idea, as well. I do know that at one point on a particular forum for the Stone Temple Pilots that my roommate frequents, you have to be registered to even view the forum. Granted, that's a bit extreme, but problems with jerks posting repeated harrassing messages n'at led them to do so.

Don't let this messageboard go the way of the rest of the world: paranoid and full of excessive surveillance. People should be able to post as Guests if they want, remembering that there will always be those who just have one or two things to say or ask and don't want to be regular posters. If that's all they want with this MB then that's fine - they shouldn't be made to register.

That said, it is MUCH nicer when you know who your fellow posters are and so I would encourage all semi-regular posters to register. If nothing else it's aesthetically pleasing, because being designated a 'Guest' looks pretty bland and can't be too flattering for the ego either... :) Also any kind of warning that you've been logged out or that your post will be branded a 'Guest' post would be very helpful and stop those unfortunate instances of erroneous 'Guest' identity.
