  1. Stop it - it's still only a rumour. Don't believe everything you read. Especially don't if it starts at AICN or Corona...
  2. Guest: What question - the 'high pitched MR strings' ? well... That could only be violins then, since they are the strings going much higher than any other:)
  3. Yeah it's a great recording. Very warm strings too. And no weird noise.
  4. Guest: What???? Williams composed all of AOTC that's for sure. And _I_ am sure Williams composed all of COS that is on the CD.
  5. King Mark, all standard wind instruments (except for the brass, obviously) are labeled as woodwinds: contrabasson, bassoon, bass clarinet, clarinet, flute, piccolo flute, oboe and english horn.
  6. Just one addition to what Ocelot said - sometimes you want more than 1 string melody (part) for the 1st violins, or for the 2nd violins - or for both. When you want the 1st violins to play two different notes, obviously you have to divide the two melodies between the different players - so the 16 1st violins might be divided into 2*8, 10+6 or whatever the composer/conductor feels appropriate.
  7. Does it matter - it is clear when you listen to the CD that Williams did 98-100% of whats on it.
  8. Yeah, it's incredible you should hear this from people on a JW message board - that some of the music is too good to be composed by JW - the same JW I guess most of us think is the most brilliant composer of our times. Go figure....
  9. Definitely Fawkes - however I vote for 'The Flying Car' as the best cue on the CD.
  10. Generally there are only three brass instruments: Trumpets, french horns and trombones. So that kinda narrows it down - and all of these are used in most big brass arrangements. You can add a tuba to that, and divide trombones into different kinds of trombones.
  11. Damn it I was hoping for 'The Flying Car' - but I guess there are too many notes in that:))
  12. That is one of the most ridiculous reviews I have read. Music not as complex as Star Wars? Uhm.. right... No energy - right. Apparently the reviewer wanted Duel of the Fates choirs all over but that didnt happen. Whether it would have fitted the film remains to be seen of course...
  13. A.I. - bedroom argument scene, right after David is introduced, comes pretty close to the worst scored scene. I don't know whether to fault Williams or Spielberg though - that scene should simply not have had any music - and if it should, it should've been a background scoring, not a foreground one, trying to intensify the tension on the screen.
  14. I don't get it. While AOTC doesnt have 20 new themes it does have some very impressive cues and very good new theme. And don't even get me started on Harry Potter COS - a marvelous score - I don't know if it's better than the first one, but it's a very close race. I consider both Potter scores some of Williams very best work.
  15. I just got the CD-quality MP3 files of the album, and I must say that this is a really good recording. Strings are silky and airy, trombones and horns are oomphy and and back in the hall. If Shawn Murphy did this I forgive him - but I seriously doubt that Murphy is behind this - the recording is too good and has too much nice hall ambience. Great recording, up there with Hook I think.
  16. Ocelot: Simon Rhodes did the first HP, so prolly also the new one. Wonderful recording. Murhpy could learn a thing or two here....
  17. Not at all - it is very 'modern' Williams like.
  18. LOL ESPECIALLY track 2 sounds SOOOO Williams. Sometimes I am shocked by you Williams 'fans':)
  19. It is 99% sure to be a piano reduction sheet music, so who cares. I want the full orchestral score - and will have to buy that from Hal Leonard or similar:)
  20. Both the original score and the new COS are magnificent scores. Especially so from a composers view, maybe? The compositions are so detailed, complex and surprising which makes it a joy listening to again and again. Of course it is just plain good music too:)
  21. Murphy is good sometimes. But lately his recordings have had serious noise problems and such. Check out A.I. and Minority Report - especially the latter is a disaster. I'd take Simon Rhodes (Harry Potter) any time.
  22. Wow, I didn't even know Tom Hanks was in Catch Me... )
  23. Excuse me - the Spielberg/Hanks movie???? I know there's some new project in development incorporating both Hanks and Spielberg, but surely not Catch Me...
  24. All I can say is: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! :////
