  1. True Stefan follows cool logic in his posts. Fanboy should be a drooling fanatic
  2. Jerry is getting away with Jeri Ryan. Where is he off to? Where was this photo taken?
  3. Did I not already indicate this? Well I have not read that in this thread or noticed it around. Oh my guess was right then. Well if it makes you any happier (I do not think it will. It never works for a consolation for me either) I am also in agony because of the wait and I am on LOTR fast as well so it's double pain
  4. Did I already dish the complete score? No I said I hated Sayuri's Theme and believe me even in the clips you CAN hear the whole theme. It's more like a motif used throughout the score consisting of two short melodic lines. How "heaven" over at FSM could say that it's one of the strongest themes Williams has written the last 10 years is beyond me. I know disappointment can be a terrible thing. I on the other hand loved the Sayuri's theme. It's Heaven's opinion that it is Williams strongest theme in a decade. That was just an opinion and it is a shame he/she got your hopes so up and then you were disappointed in the theme. I understand your disappointment. But I can't say I agree with you.
  5. Stefan you really are edgy these days. Why can't I share my thoughts on Williams if Joe can share his disappointment in Williams? What grandstanding is in that? Are you pissed off because some Williams fans do agree with my thoughts? You do not want attention when you express your thoughts on some matter on the MB? Isn't it that why we have MBs. To share thoughts and communicate with like minded people about our favorite things and in this case the music of John Williams and film music in general. Stefan your comments have been thus far good and enlightening even when you disagree with me. Why the sudden change? Is the waiting for the FOTR release driven you so angry?
  6. I took awhile but I had a gnawing feeling this piece was somehow familiar. Then it hit me. Abandoned in the Woods (well Martin's theme). Thanks for those sentiments One can never have too many friends
  7. I read your post (which I agree with) but the thoughts in this thread are entirely my own (i.e. I did not rip your thoughts ^_^ ). I just wrote what I felt about Williams. And Williams has been challenging himself a bit lately (well for quite a few years now actually). I hope directors give him more new things to work with. and I hope Spielberg offers him a great Indy movie to compose his classic adventure music to. You can never have too many Williams adventure scores
  8. For me Williams is and will be the best film composer. That cannot be changed by anyone or anything. I discovered him when I was a a teenager. Jurassic Park was the first thing that opened my eyes to film music. and after that I got very well acquainted with his SW and Indiana Jones scores. After that I was hooked and went deeper into his music and became a collector and a fan. He has had an enormous influence on me and I have grown to love his music and its many sides. His career has been rich and his music likewise. And as for the decline I do not see it. I think I have grown with Williams' music as well since his current style is something I deeply love. I love and admire the "Golden Age" from the mid seventies through mid eighties but those scores are classic and I do not feel Williams has lost any of his skill when you compare them with his modern out put. I consider A.I. and HP to be classics also. And Williams still writes like no other composer. His themes are well thought through and the structure of the music is a wonder to behold. His music is both emotionally and intellectually engaging. His orchestrations are complex and hide much beauty if you just listen to them (they are now more complex than ever). We know every composer has his stylistic peculiarities and Williams is no different but that is what makes him John Williams. His harp glissandos, flute flourishes, timpani rolls, brass licks and string progressions. They are all Williams. He has exhibited them from the beginning of his career. The reason why some people recently have come to see it as a failing is beyond me. But there we enter the territory of opinions and musical tastes. Also the movies Williams has scored have been different from his "Golden Age". In the 80's he was the name asked to do adeventure scores but in the 90'he focused very much on drama. That must have changed his attitudes and sensibilities a bit. He churned drama after drama in the 90's and I dare say he became a master at it. He blended his thematic mastery with subtlety (not always but often) and the result was amazing. Maybe his way of thinking and writing film music were changed to a degree also. Williams has also been working with an increasingly fast speed as he gets older. His one score/year has changed to 4 scores/year. And still the quality of the music has not suffered. I think he is bound to have few musically common sounds in his scores if he scores four pictures in a row even if he is not consciously trying to copy his own music. We can hear that in the scores of 2002 when he had also 4 scores to compose. The stories were from roughly the same genre (suspence and mystery, fantasy) AOTC, Minority Report, CMIYC and HP CS. Stylistically the 4 scores stand very close to each other but musically Williams composed every single one an identity of its own and wrote original themes for every one of them. The question if the music is good is left to the listener. Some love it some hate it. Williams' sound and style have of course changed but his musical identity has stayed the same at its core. The reasons for the change are many: Williams' growth as a composer, the change in the sensibilites of the movies scoring, directors, the current trends. But no other composer can deliver such quality and music that elevates the picture than John Williams. I am glad to be witnessing this artistic growth and opening of new musical possibilities for him.
  9. Well as Ihave watched the Rome the most irritating aspect is the need of the writers to include so much sex in the series. I am not agaist it but it is in every episode once or twice (now they have even touched upon lesbian love). Is it for the shock value or is it because sex sells better. I do not know but it is the biggest gripe with the series. Even if the Romans were promiscuous and free in their sexual conduct it still would not have to be so underlined in the series.
  10. Well that is the instinctive response Stefan. I have tried to get rid of that habit but it is deep rooted ^_^ Also the "Williams is best and all other film music is crap" attitude is really very irritating. (This coming from a man who shouted "John Williams rules!" on several threads must little hard to swallow but I like other film music than just Williams ) But I try to grow out of these childish habits but it is so hard sometimes to watch other people share negative opinions of your favorite composer (the instinctive response is to defend Williams).
  11. Wow you met Karen Allen! How nice. You have now met about 100% more movie stars than I.
  12. LOL LOL LOL But really could we discuss about LOTR music instead of sniding each other all the time.
  13. John Williams is scoring both the emotion and the culture here. And he is doing superb job at it. Music of every track is interesting (yes even the solo shakuhachi in DR. Crab's Prize.). The oriental style is very much more deeper than in say Seven Years in Tibet but Williams' own compositional voice is still there in those exquisite themes. Sayuri's theme is perhaps short but to me so very beautiful. Chaiman's Waltz is simply amazing. Perlman's playing is so lyrical and expressive. But I do not hear Schindler's List when I hear the piece. Abandoned in the Woods perhaps? In Finding Satu the strings sound very much like Seven Years in Tibet or Episode 2 or 3 (the two latter had that from 7YIT). All in all it seems to be amazing score based on the soundclips from Soundtrack.netsite. Beautiful.
  14. War of the Worlds, King Kong? Why not Omen. If they can cash us with old ideas they will.
  15. Wonderful. the clips sounded very promising. It is so different and refreshing! Truly Williams is the master of film music. If I did not know Williams wrote this I had no idea (well there are few tell tale signs). The theme sounds beautiful. John Williams rules! I am all hyped up now. I wish it was 22nd of November already.
  16. do you mean the one who hasn't declined in talent and ability. He probably did not have the talents or the ability in the first place since he is stuck doing TV work. LOL You just keep going and going Joe. Well two can play that game. John Williams (the true and original film composer not mentioned in the topic of this thread) rules!
  17. Williams could actually try and write even more nastier theme than Ave Satani. That would be hard but since Williams has been doing different styles of films for the past few years he probably could tackles horror easily. Take a Latin chant and mix it with weird orchestration and hey presto the instant horror theme (add sleigh bells for Williams effect).
  18. Well we all have a free will and we can (I hope) express our opinions and views here on the MB as we like. Not even all JW fans have to like all the music Maestro has ever written.
  19. Yeah. Intelligent conversation is much better. I just had to let all out after reading those disheartening posts Joe wrote. I'll stop now and go all cynical and mean
  20. You know. The man to whom this MB is dedicated to. A great film composer. Who by the way rules!
  21. This is a John Williams MB. I am singing his glory that's all.
