  1. Exactly and it even features a delicious cue by cue breakdown and excellent sound. It is the best presentation of any silvestri score yet.
  2. There are several 34 track bootlegs of predator but surprisingly, they all seem to feature less original score than the varese disc: There is one boot with the song Long Tall Sally and a suite of Blown Away, another one has the theme of "Stop! Or My Mom Will Shot" and the "Silver Pictures" logo music. Then, there is another bootleg with the end credits from Predator 2. Now if you consider that the varese disc runs nearly as long as all of these bootlegs but leaves out the "bonus" tracks you will find out that there is a little bit of extra music on the varese CD. I think it was additional unused music in the last track. For more info, please go here: http://www.alan-silvestri.com/discography/...edatorboot.html
  3. I tried to email Silva about these recordings two times and never received a reply. Ok, that seems to be the common business procedure of every label but since there wasn't a real confirmation in the first place we should remain as sceptical as possible about these rumours of new recordings.
  4. Arnold himself stated on the board of his website that he was never fully involved with the patriot. I still like William's music for the patriot especially because i don't find it intrusively patriotic. Not one of his best for sure but definitely a well done score especially in the film. The album of the patriot was rather weirdly arranged and maybe that was the problem. Something better for sure
  5. I should mention that all parts with heavy sfx are edited out. The moment you have mentioned goes directly into a later part of the cue. The edits are quite ok i think (at least better than having gunshots breaking up the cue). Cues like the plane sequence from the beginning are missing too due to heavy sfx. It is just a combination of sfx free parts merged with album tracks to present a good listening experience.
  6. I was surprised to find most cues (including the underground and finale) virtually isolated on the dvd rear channel. A little flat maybe (since there were elements missing) but that was fixed by playing with the equalizer a little.
  7. Yes, a rear channel rip plus album tracks.
  8. That almost sounds like my private edition. If there is any interest, I will post all details as soon as i get home today. The Track Listing of the first disc starts like this: 01. Anything Goes 02. Anything Goes (instrumental) 03. Anything Goes Fanfare 04. Nuhaji Diamond Deal / Fast Streets Of Shanghai 05. Slalom On Mt Humol / The Village (...) can't remember the rest though. All moments with heavy sfx are edited out and the sound was pitched to match the album tracks which are edited into the film cues. That was possible because the album cues are mostly film versions (sometimes excerpts of film versions) except for the end titles. I believe there were only two or three noticeable sfx.
  9. I voted 'yes' simply because i also have no idea what a signature edition is and wonder what else i might miss. A FAQ would be a nice solution.
  10. My williams collection seems to be quite okay (i hope) with 36 original CDs. It is actually the biggest position for a single artist in my collection (with Jerry being the second @ 31 and Elmer the third @ 21). If i would count the bootlegs and CD-r copies that number should increase very much but i never count these secondary recordings as an actual part of the collection so here we go: Always - OST Angela's Ashes - OST (no narration) Artificial Intelligence - OST Close Encounters Of The Third Kind - Collector's Edition E.T. The Extra Terrestrial - Anniversary Edition Far and Away - OST Fitzwilly + The Long Goodbye - Varese Club CD Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - OST Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone - OST Heidi Kehrt Heim - OST Home Alone 2: Lost In New York - Varese Club CD Hook - OST Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - OST Jane Eyre - OST Jaws - Collector's Edition + OST JFK - OST Jurassic Park - OST Nixon - OST Penelope (+ Bachelor In Paradise) - FSM Saving Private Ryan - OST Schindler's List - OST Star Wars - Ep. 1: The Phantom Menace - OST + UE Star Wars - Ep. 2: Attack Of The Clones - OST Star Wars - Ep. 3: Revenge Of The Sith - OST Star Wars - Ep. 4: A New Hope - Special Edition Star Wars - Ep. 5: The Empire Strikes Back - Special Edition Star Wars - Ep. 6: Return Of The Jedi - Special Edition Superman - 2-CD Rhino The Eiger Sanction - OST The Fury - Varese CD Club The Lost World: Jurassic Park - OST The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing - FSM The Patriot - OST The River - OST I would really love to have the CDs of the first two indy scores as well as some other OOP discs but i would never pay more than 25 euro for a (single) CD and so far i haven't found them for such a low price (which will never happen anyways). But that price tag is a border which is very important to me. I am quite prowd of such amazing finds like Always, The Eiger Sanction or JFK which i have all aquired used in excellent condition for less than 20 euros.
  11. I haven't really read most of the previous comments yet but i will give my 2 cents anyways: The scores for the trilogy were actually the only reason for me to sit through these films. Shore delivered a fine work that is so different from his thriller/horror work due to all these nice themes. Needless to say that i have been anticipating these box sets since they have been announced. The fellowship box was a great release but there are some minor flaws: The few vocal performances of the characters interrupt the flow of the music sometimes, especially on Bilbo's farewell. They could have put these useless songs at the end of the CDs, separated from the score. It is obvious that there are several edits throughout the discs even though it is not a worst-case scenario like the 'wannabe' ultimate episode one score release. The mix is sometimes a little weird, with some choir and vocal performances mixed at a ridiculously low volume. But these are just minor quibbles. Having the complete score and being able to enjoy it separated from the boring picture is a joy. Interesting point. I feel the same about the thematic moment in the fellowship score but in my opinion the best statement of the theme appears in RotK, namely For Frodo with the powerful choral outburst of this great piece. I had chills in that moment.
  12. That moment you have mentioned which contains the heroic theme is my favorite one and the moment at the end when Kong swings through the construction site sadly represents the one and only variation on that material. It would have been great if they included it on the CD before "Empire State Building" since it is just a little over one minute of music anyways. Sadly, i doubt that we will ever see a "complete recordings" release for Kong (i guess you are refering to the LOTR releases). The movie is not doing really well at the box office and Universal is generally not open-minded for releasing expanded editions of their scores. To add to that, they recorded the entire score (3 hours) with a damn large orchestra in Los Angeles which means high re-use fees to pay in case of another release. I am afraid the chances for a complete release are very slim.
  13. It is finally up: http://www.filmscorecenter.de/kingkong.htm Enjoy! (just in case you find factual or other errors in the article(s) I would appreciate it if you let me know about them asap)
  14. The thrilling action variation on the M:I theme music featured in the M:I 3 trailer was even composed by Giacchino (which certainly has become a rare occasion that trailers feature music from the original score's composer). I don't know who mentioned that but it was probably Dan Goldwasser. I am not exactly a Giacchino fanatic (yet) but this is a score that I am really looking forward to. As far as the previous scores of the franchise are concerned, there was something i enjoyed in both scores, either the orchestral powerhouse cues from Elfman's take(Train Time) or the thrilling rock variation of the M:I theme in the M:I-2 score (this theme always sounds great no matter how it is used). But Elfman's score is definitely a better crafted one than Zimmer/Badelts sequel score.
  15. Well, if this helps as soon as I have the time I can go through the bootleg again and compare it with the OST to estimate the amount of new material and mark the cues that come from dvd and games. But i don't have the film yet (waiting for the ultimate prequel box set with all extras which will most likely appear in the future ) so i can't re-check it with that. And I have no idea about the cover or its origins.
  16. Not sure how much unreleased music there is exactly, but it has to be around 40 minutes. A friend of mine made that one. He said it consists of cues from the games and from the DVD though the quality of the ripped cues is extraordinary (with barely noticeable sfx).
  17. As it seems, I am the only hardcore-silvestri fan here, so i will recommend to expand your collection with some Silvestri: For drama: Forrest Gump (score OST) Cast Away (theme from Zemeckis-Silvestri compilation) Contact (score OST) The Bodyguard (bootleg) For action/adventure: Back To The Future 3 (OST) The Mummy Returns (OST) Judge Dredd (OST) Predator (varese CD) For insane comedy fun: Mouse Hunt (OST + 2-CD bootleg) The Odd Couple 2 (OST) Super Mario Bros (bootleg) Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (OST + 2-CD bootleg) For breathless orchestral amazement: The Abyss (OST) Siegfried & Roy: The Magic Box (bootleg) The Polar Express (promo + OST) Furthermore, i can only agree to the others who recommended to get more Williams 8O Maybe some Bill Conti (Victory, F.I.S.T.) or Elmer Bernstein (The Great Escape, The Ten Commandments, Stripes, To Kill A Mockingbird) as well?
  18. I did not exactly kept track on the discussion about the revenge of the sith score on this board (there was a lot of talking about it here as it seems) but i thought some of you might want to read my review of the expanded bootleg. No idea if this thing is hot news or not but see for yourself: link removed per request Two short soundclips are up but i have to apologize for the low sample quality.
  19. Maybe I can be helpful here as I am working on an extended review and complete cue breakdown for the king kong score. 20. Hello to all members of jwfan.com! I am one of those "silent readers" who finally decided to join the forum. My name is Andreas, I live in Berlin, germany and am a crazy film score fan. You can also find me at the forum of Alan-Silvestri.com which is actually my favorite place on the net but I would like to expand my horizons a little 8O Here some of my favourite composers (not necessairly in that order): John Williams (naturally), Alan Silvestri, Elmer Bernstein, Jerry Goldsmith, Michael Kamen, Bill Conti, Basil Poledouris, David Arnold, James Horner, David Newman, James Newton Howard and Rolf Wilhelm. I am looking forward to many good discussions on this board and would like to wish everyone here a happy and healthy new year 2006!
