  1. Agreed. My thoughts are that only the first half of Predators was good, the mystery kept building, then it all falls apart with the crazy Fishburne character, the predator trio and that totally unconvincing convict guy. AvP is actually pretty cool. The standoff between hunter and hunted came off well done and the action is awesome. Also love the queen resurrection scene, which puts a huge smile on my face because Aliens is my favourite film. Oh and I don't care if Debney returns, he did a great job imitating Silvestri. But Silvestri doing the score would be sweet indeed...
  2. It's an action-fest from start to finish, with ocassional platforming. The game is a bit glitchy at times and the combat challenging but never unfair. The story is engaging in an over the top kind of way. It's the best told storyline of the entire series IMO. The original games are much harder but are more ridiculous and full cheesy one-liners (which I happen to love). And of course games on Playstation Plus are never free, there's a yearly subscription after all, but it's still awesome value for money.
  3. Is that the latest in the series, DMC? If so I can do one better: totally free on Playstation Plus a couple of months ago. I enjoyed it, I only ever played parts 1, 3 and 4.
  4. Continued from another topic that went off-topic in order to get back on topic. Well yeah, if you only know those three than I get why you would say videogames are stupid. Those are pretty mundane compared to modern gaming masterpieces Tetris is not mundane. Don't get me wrong, I too enjoyed Tetris long ago, 20 years ago in fact, when it was all the rage... But compared to the virtual worlds and meticulously crafted stories we get nowadays it is way too simplistic and repetitive to hold my attention for longer than 5 minutes. All that is needed is moving blocks to form lines, so when compared to the visual realism, extensive freedom and level of interactivity we get today, that blocks thingie has become, to me at least, very mundane and boring to sit through. Definitely. But movies aren't interactive (yet). You can't really compare a passive experience like watching a film to the virtual reality of a video game. It's like reading a book vs. lucid dreaming. Imagine, as the player being able to craft your own story in a virtual world. We're not there yet but I'm confident I will see it happening in my lifetime. And we already have interactive movies, the only thing is, they last about 15-20 hours to complete and are played in episodes, however long we want them to last. Aren't The Last of Us or Uncharted the best examples of high-profile adventure / horror / action films with character development and adventurous excitement, but all done so the viewer becomes a part of it in the most interactive way yet possible.
  5. Well yeah, if you only know those three than I get why you would say videogames are stupid. Those are pretty mundane compared to modern gaming masterpieces such as the Bioshock series, The Last of Us, and so much more that work on multiple levels instead of just guiding a one dimensional sprite or bunch of blocks on a static screen. Games have matured considerably, and for what it's worth, when it comes to story and characters and plot complexity, many video games from the last 10 years have already surpassed the film medium.
  6. Duly Noted, Neighbour. Still learning how this place works. Honest inquiry: there's a topic for video games, is there one for video game scores, because I'm seriously into those as well.
  7. Headhunter is actually pretty good orchestral action video game score, I bought this from SAE for 2,95 dollar a couple of years ago. The only shame is that all of the tracks on the Headhunter score are cut off a couple seconds too soon, which makes me think the fact they sold it so cheap was because of a defective batch. The sequel score is more synthy and not as good.
  8. Brilliant ! I've ordered TLK (one of Zimmer's absolute best) on Amazon and it should be here in a couple of weeks time. The score is worthy of a complete release and I am happy for the fans that it has finally happened after 20 years. But the fact that the expanded Backdraft is still in limbo, with that leak from a while ago, surprises me.
  9. Saw & heard that too. Very interesting hearing all the little tidbits that went into creating it.
  10. Journey is a real milestone in gaming, it may only be a fraction of AAA games playable length, but what it offers in return is what many big budget games can't provide... a real sense of accomplishment through simple but rewarding co-operation and heartfelt emotion when it's all over. Plus the music really elevates the experience into something almost spiritual. Austin Wintory did a fantastic job on this. Everyone that's into games should play it ASAP.
  11. I sure as hell am ! I've been waiting for ages for the second flick to appear on blu. I already have the first but not 4K, I don't imagine it will worth upgrading the first one, but the second film is one of those great guilty pleasure sequels, where you can see every cast member having fun. I can't believe the flak this film gets sometimes, it's almost as good as the first. Oh and will we be getting the Edelman score finally this year? Rumours say we finally will...
  12. This post has convinced me to get Destiny when it's out. Sounds like it will be an incredible game. Makes me think about Journey and how that one completely floored me when I realized that wasn't an NPC in the distance, but a real person. Nah, I was already going to get it simply because it's Bungie. And I'm beyond happy they decide to release it on the PS4.
  13. Hi Thor, we meet again ! It's been a while... I'd go for The Lost World. As action scores go, that one kicks major some butt ! Add to that a superb album presentation and my most played of the two. He hasn't done anything as brilliantly exciting since, except for the odd cue here and there. But Jurassic Park has a special place in my heart too. Filmwise, JP is a gem, TWL is great fun.
  14. Brother! OK this is scary !! A. How did you know I have one ? B. That he is also a Snyder fan ?
  15. The guy has made me aware of some shitty games that I had never heard of, and makes for some funny videos. Been watching since Rolfe's early years and though I've missed out on his work from the later years, he seems to be on a roll with a movie coming out, which I must check out. I also need to delve into more of his reviews, but the his later videos are too long. His earlier ones were what, 5-10 minutes which were perfect, now he's making practically TV episodes. Still the nerd has provided me with much laughter over the years. It helps his personality and comments are relatable too. Could never go through some of the crap he does though.
  16. Best recent example for me is Man of Steel and its total lack of wit, humor and fun that the first Superman has in spades. I saw it once, but it was one time too many. But overall I like Snyder's films. For instance, Watchmen gets better with every viewing. It helps that its visuals are astounding as I like that in a film. At the same time taking its source material seriously, but not remaining too serious for the duration of the film, I like a bit of poking fun to lighten the mood (the moment with Rorschach in the prison comes to mind). And who here is looking forward to the Zorro reboot ??? I sure ain't, they want to make it darker than the Z-man's costume.
  17. Because of the fact that the score is almost completely recycled from JW's first, but he moves the themes around a bit? I would say that makes it the LEAST accomplished. I get why you would say that but to me it just so feels like an essential Superman score, because the themes are all reused in grand fashion and appropriately too, while also doing some interesting arrangements. Like how Mother's advice was originally for Jor-El and wife saying goodbye to baby Kal-El in The Movie. I love both arrangements equally. Maybe accomplished isn't the right word, but consistent is. Those 79 minutes I enjoy immensely every time, but that's just me.
  18. You could say that about II, which uses Williams material the most, but it's interesting how Thorne used them for entirely different situations / scenes than what Williams wrote them for. In that way I find Sup II is the most accomplished of the sequel scores. III is more Thorne than Williams, the comedy aspect comes more to the foreground, the movie is a comedy after all, not a true Superman film. I'm awaiting the number 4 train... one more year.
  19. Superman: The Movie is my favourite superhero film and just a grand fantasy / adventure film in itself, because it goes through such a heartfelt emotional arc, the prologue on Krypton, Smallville, Clark Kent's true identity, the relationship with Lois Lane, the fight for justice and good and saviour of humanity. All of this brilliantly supported by the masterful score, which everyone of us of course knows in and out. The sequel movies are very hit or miss but for the most part I look at them with nostalgia and can look past their flaws (even Superman III). IMHO Superman Returns was a great tribute to Donner's epic and the fact this film hasn't had more recognition from the fans has always felt strange to me. Because it sure has the heart and attention to character that the first one had. Before the blue box came out I only owned the first movie's score (the Rhino) edition, so when it was finally anounced FSM would release the 4 scores in complete form I was beyond ecstatic. So here's how I rate each score how it's presented in that box (including Ottman's because it references Williams a lot and for me is a part of that series of films). - Superman The Movie: 5 stars (not surprises there, a towering achievement in every way, among many others during that period) - Superman II (Thorne & Williams): 5 stars (great arrangements of existing material, the smaller orchestra has never bothered me and some much loved previously unreleased material) - Superman III (Thorne & Williams): 4 stars (not as consistent as II but it's fun nonetheless) - Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (Williams & Courage): 4.5 stars (simply spectacular, in the film it sounds cheesy because the film itself is so ridiculous, the FSM presentation however is excellent and puts the film to shame. Adore that Nuclear Man theme.) Superman Returns (Ottman): 4 stars (the original album which is enough for me, Ottman did good here, adding choir to Supes' theme can divide people but I for one love it) PS Feels good to finally post something here...
  20. Same here, I already completed it on PS3. Awesome game in every respect, best GTA to date, but to play it on PC with the inevitable mods and graphical upgrades will be spectacular. Going through Watch Dogs on PS4 at the moment. Similar as GTA in many ways, but also different. The various mini games keep me interested while the storyline does not. I've yet to complete Act 1 and I've already clocked in more than 10 hours in the singleplayer, just exploring, collecting and unlocking. One thing I love about WD in how it's so well integrated into the singleplayer portion is the online aspect. If you desire you can at anytime get an invite for an online mission, or get 'invaded' by a hacker who you have to immediatly dispose of (or at least try to). It keeps an element of surprise to the game. Visually the world is very appealing and detailed, but I would've loved to play this in 60fps. I'm a PC gamer at heart btw, but I dig my consoles too for the exclusives and ease of use.
  21. Thank you for bringing this album to my attention. After reading the comments here I was interested in the selections from Memoirs but in the end I've loved the majority of the album but not the concert arrangement of Memoirs, though it's not bad of course I still prefer the score album versions, but it's nice to have the different arrangement anyway. I'm sure it'll grow on me after repeated listens. I've bought the album on iTunes and it's going to be an album I will return to often. The third disc is just heavenly and the Williams fan in me is completely satisfied.
  22. Yes definitely! This big meaty action music, the only problem with the soundtrack is, a good part of the music is done by synths, and very cheap sounding too. But the orchestral cues more than make up for that fact. This will knock your socks off !!!!! The Kraken's Lair
