  1. Interesting point, and it's indeed something that makes no sense from a narrative point of view. So the story only continues because the player decides it can continue. So, what are the baddies doing in the meantime, catching up sleep, party until the morning hours, playing online RPGs? No they just wait for the player to trigger the next event. As games get bigger and more expansive in their content, I've been finding myself asking a lot that very question... What is it with these devs that want to draw our focus on all these sidequests and trivial mini-games when there are more pressing matters at hand. I'd like to sometimes not pay attention to all these distractions. But that goes against my OCD and so I have to occupy myself with everything at once, to the point of losing track of everything but the most recent quest or what I was supposed to be doing when I started the game. Personally speaking I prefer a focused 15-20 hour game over a much longer one, where the many plot threads start to blend and I'm getting less invested in the world as time goes on.
  2. Like an Adventure Game! Can you believe adventures games used to be like this?
  3. Yup. It will take me a couple of hours to figure out The Phantom Pain as well. Games are just like that these days. And it's fine. Some of those have bigger budgets than films these days! Marian, it took me a bit of time to figure out how Batmobile works. But the cool thing is.... it kind of starts making sense as you play it. Karol Games are getting more complex each year. We used to have mostly genre-specific games. The Player knew what to expect, now most of the bigger games mix multiple genres together, so the devs have to anticipate for that and provide elaborate control schemes and tutorials for newcomers. Sometimes I just like to pick up and play something like Journey, but games in that simplified style (and of high quality) are few and far between.
  4. The movie's one of my childhood faves (it still is a hoot nowadays because of its genius blend of comedy and fantasy). Another great Dante-Goldsmith pairing that let the composer craft some cool memorable themes and action cues. For the longest time I was sad this remained unreleased. Thanks to Lalaland in 2009, I felt sad no more. It may not be a true classic among scores, but boy is it fun. The album is almost 80 minutes, but it never outstays its welcome. Like I said I like its fantasy element of the film a lot, and Jerry contributed in his own fashion, giving me quite a few goosebumps along the ride.
  5. I'm here, but why do you confuse me with that toy-loving dutchman? I think I have more in common with a 70 year old midget from Azerbaijan than with that dude.
  6. Along with Tron Legacy ! Holy shitballs... what a theme ! This had gone from 'didn't know this existed' to 'as good as ordered' in a matter of minutes.
  7. I remember the good old days of PC Flight sims that came with a huge instruction manual. You could forget about ingame tutorials, or the helpful tool the internet now is, the only way you would learn the ins & out of that game, was by reading everything in that big manual. It was the time when cardboard boxes were the norm for PC games packaging. I did some reading back in the day.
  8. Even though I've gone through them each two times already, I'm dying to give them another go on the current Playstation. Uncharted's absolutely worth it.
  9. So true... the few times I've held one in my hands, Tetris was inside.
  10. I was expecting a flagrant misspelling in the title. But a word I've never heard of and in super tiny text... doesn't actually bother me.... I mean c'mon you need to be a scientist / chemist with a magnifying glass to spot it.
  11. Well yes that's another option, but requires a bit more fiddling with emulators, rom and bios files. And MGS works on PS3, see this link.
  12. If you still have a PS3 you can get the HD collection that consists of MGS2, MGS3 and Peace Walker (3 remastered games on 1 disc). Then you'd only need MGS which came out on the first Playstation in 1998 (I assume this is playable too on the PS3, only PS2 titles are not compatible) or MGS: The Twin Snakes on Gamecube in 2004 (the remake, which diehard fans would call inferior to the PS version, but not me). And last but not least MGS4 which also came out on PS3. So unless you don't mind low-res graphics and don't want to invest in a GC and a not so cheap copy of MGS:TTS you could just play all of them on the PS3.
  13. No shit Sherlock ! How excrutiatingly dull it must be to like what most others like. How undeniably fantastic it is to be the odd one out.
  14. Yeah who needs the Marvel gang when you can have MacBeth...
  15. So I'm the only one here who likes it... I'm unique ! I'm special !! What a wonderful feeling this is !!!!!
  16. Transformers 3 is good fun, like Bay excusing himself for making not a lot of sense in part 2, with its silly comedy and overcomplicated storyline. I still enjoy ROTF, but it's the worst of the 4. I didn't think I would enjoy Age of Extinction but the totally new cast gives it some fresh air. It's just not a retread of previous films either. Jablonsky's scores have become gradually worse. The first one is a masterpiece compared to the monotonous crap that the 4th score is. BTW if you want a continuation of the Transformers sound (the first two aka the good ones), check out his video game score for Gears of War 2, it's great !
  17. You playing Dying Light on PC? Maybe I should've gone for that one, but I'm afraid my rig won't handle it well. Not that the controls were bad on PS4, but I've had my share of annoyances with fighting off the undead.
  18. Me neither. Mostly because playing a minute requires playing all of the minutes leading up to it. Or watching the long cutscenes (which never bothered me to tell the truth). What's great is that every game has been pretty self-contained so far. There's obviously tons of references for the fans that 'get it', but even if you 'don't get it' it's doesn't stand in the way of the game's quality.
  19. You'll miss out on some major referencing to the earlier titles and likely the story will be too hard to follow if you start with The Phantom Pain. I don't know if the new game does a sort of a recap or not. Ground Zeroes is a sort of prologue with only one setting (but superbly detailed and full of secrets to discover) that introduced the player to the new controls and general feeling of how you interact with the world. I don't think it's necessary to enjoy The Phantom Pain, but it's an awesome game in its own right (a bit short when you intend to play the missions only once, but great replay value if you're like me (big fan of MGS). And Jay's list of games to play is spot on.
  20. From where I'm sitting, Ang Lee's version is the dull one. Normally I like Ang Lee films, but this is one where his talent was wasted I felt. Give me Crouching Tiger or Life of Pi over that one. And I can't be the only one that thought Incredible Hulk was a highly enjoyable romp?
  21. Getting excited for MGS: The Phantom Pain now. It's getting rave reviews, it's supposed to be the final hurrah for Kojima and Snake and I cannot wait to dive into it. Later this week, most likely. Source: Eurogamer review
  22. Nah, just a heartfelt, neighborly and truthfully concerned question. I'm surprised you'd think that man... We've had our surplus of storm and rain here yesterday.
  23. So how's the weather treating ya... no floods or anything? I wouldn't want Holland to disappear in the sea.
  24. That gif creeps me out, like the one Jay put on before. Like she's in an endless loop of slowly falling asleep. Unsettling.
