  1. i never saw the 2nd, 3rd movie. some neet pan diatonism and modal writing by mr davis. Nothing awe enspering except for the matrix chord motif.
  2. First movie is great, second and third get wierder and worse. what happened to tank? I don't remember seeing him die. does anyone think the "reality" set up in the first movie, was violated in the second and third?
  3. when do we find out the program? i might have to head to boston for one of these.
  4. this is a great resource. http://www.imslp.org/wiki/Main_Page be sure to read the copyright rules
  5. Perhaps Williams does not get invited to do many movies? And I cannot imagine him working on a film that does not need a very large amount of music, only a few times in his career has he done less than 30 minutes of score films. I can also imagine him very intimadating to work with from the point of view of a director. Does he golf? What is he doing every day? Drinking?
  6. Neither do i, face it thats the way most people (voters) feel about the music. Voting method 1: Ooh that composer has a fun name to pronounce. Voting Method 2: I voted for blah blah for sound effects so I vote blah blah blah for score. Voting Method 3: That was a good movie it must have had good music. The composers should vote, that would make it better. Just like the way they do for foreign films. my two sense. peace
  7. They have 1/2 pages of music in front of them on the stand, and as many nominees as there are there are 5-8 bar loops of music. A few seconds before the annoucement The conductor gets a whisper in his headset and holds up his fingers so the orchestra knows which loop to play, and that way everything is kept secret. The group must be on their toes.
  8. I am afraid that is not true: given the accuracy of the tempo changes whomever played this session it is his work who still exists. This was in the end of the JW esb documentary someone kindly had sent me in the summer.
  9. well here is evidence JW is not the pianist on "magic of halloween"
  10. I believe that, these studio pianists can sight read mozart piano concerti. They are just nasty players. And if over the moon is the same as the magic of haloween, it is not hard at all all octaves which are really simple, you only need to read one line.
  11. It is possible he played the end credits, but I doubt he would play the over the moon, it is not really a hard part for a studio pianist (it sounds much harder). Secondly I remember hearing a story that the pianist for the 20th anniversary concert broke his arm falling off the stage during the dress rehearsal at the Shrine and was replaced at the last minute. I think Randy replaced him, but I remember hearing that whomever fell was the original pianist of the soundtrack. PS Williams piano playing sounds to me very orchestral in nature, organizing the music according to the line and not overly dramatic or excessively rhythmic, almost shy. I imagine if williams had to play one of the orchestrators would conduct, but since williams did this himself perhaps it was the concertmaster?? i dont know.
  12. No it wasn't . I think I've misinterepted in what I'm trying to say. I said read the Album Credits information that is provided on the album which will tell you what Orchestra they used whether it was particular symphony or not or just a selection of musicans to form a orchestra group at the recording stage or whatever. They do sometime list the people names who plays the instruments. As far as I know The Terminal OST album is the only one that I know that has the list of people names who plays the instruments... I am pretty certain it was Randy Kerber (spelling?), who was the same as on forrest gump.
  13. well according to my handy dandy conductors score: Vlns play a B sharp - C# - D nat Celeste does a quazi trill D - db - c c Db - F interestingly enough the brass part is two tubas on the C# above middle c
  14. compared to other film composers "Yes" compared the greatest moments of himself "pretty close" compared to a Beethoven masterwork "sorry" don't doubt the man, he is a supreme musical being. don't feel ashamed to say yes.
  15. are you comparing these to the scores? How else may it be confirmed that it is a change? The jurassic park example is notate in the score, then it is to be mixed in on the album. I am talking more of musical changes, things on the score that are different from the track. not album cutting, or a track which has four cues cut together. or album cuts that are longer then the films.
  16. I think JW was so close to stating this theme in the opening of a new hope, and that big brass fanfare for the rebel blockade runner thingy. the empire theme i had always thought was a derivative of this statement.
  17. Most composers seem to do this, but with JW you hardly ever see it. It is impressive that his ear usually can dictate a complete impression of what the orchestra will sound like. I cant remember seeing other changes on my other scores. And his details are just amazing. writing out shapes for improvisations (the japaneese bamboo flute in "dennis steals the embryo" all notated out in great detail. sometimes dividing the string sections like 6 to this part; 2 to this. his organizational orchestration is something folks like zimmer or howard will never obtain. and for the record. JW "orchestrated" et, even though with his case as is often said, the orchestrator is the first copyist, he leaves 95 percent of the sketch done when he hands it off. I bet with the above drum example, that was lucas deciding that in the mix (since wasn't that recorded seperately?). He was like "oh we should just have drums here".
  18. Just reading through ET conductors score I noticed several parts where JW made changes to the score. ommiting strings here, making a doubled woodwind line a solo, for example right in the opening of track 2: where the strings enter on that big open chord was meant to happen one bar earlier but JW made them enter a bar later (where they are on the soundtrack) he also had the pic solo cued for Eb clarinet. Cued means he had the same piccolo notes written for the clarinet so he could decided what he liked better when he was rehearsing it. Also where the fast high strings come in, around 4:25, this was also meant to start a bar earler and hugley cresendo into where they presently come in. i found a whole bunch others, but cant remember them. so just letting you guys know he is human afterall.
  19. http://nma.redhost24-001.com/mambo/index.php This is quite amazing, a bit difficult to navigate and save the files, but here is the complete Mozart Sheet music. He was most likely the world's most pure artist of any genre. Its quite interesting to hear the pieces he composed as a very young man, remember he died so young.
  20. to others who keep pming me, please empty your box so i can write a response back.
  21. I got this 28 Track "For your consideration" of Ray at the SCL screening in Hollywood. I just found it once again. Is this different from the soundtrack? I dont really like this composer. Interestingly, the cd had no cover only the CD, and jewel case with a black and gold sleeve on the bottom side.
