What is the last score you listened to?
crocodile replied to Mr. Breathmask's topic in General Discussion
Don't forget about The Good German, which explores a bit different territory and proves that Newman can do even more than he's normally allowed to. You know, when he's not asked to do "Thomas Newman music". I really hope someone will finally let him do a more traditional orchestral score like that one. That would be something. Oh, and Angels in America. Very enjoyable album. You can also check out Little Children. There is some great stuff there. Karol -

It's a fine film, but some of its initially shocking revelations and twists grow a bit thin after a while. You have to admit it's a bit of a one-trick-pony. That's what I meant. I wasn't talking about anyobody's taste. Karol -
Yeah, especially when you get 16 CD's for the price of 30. Karol

Maybe I'll go to see it then. I've seen it only once, many many years ago Karol -
I doubt WB will force him to do anything at this point. But I can be wrong... Karol

One of the best opening credits ever btw. And extremely creepy. The film itself... let's just say it was more impressive when I was 15. Karol -

It's a rather faint praise, don't you think? Karol - who fell asleep too -
The Official La-La Land Records Thread

If the product is better because of the delay... I can wait. There are so many treats this year, my wallet needs a bit of rest. I'm talking mostly about the re-releases, of course Karol -

Ironically, it's very good news. For me, at least. Karol - who anticipates greatly this release. -

Maybe theatrical re-release means expanded soundtrack re-release. Or maybe it means just means new packing soundtrack re-release... Karol -

Indeed, I must have. But anyway...She still looks fake. In fact when I saw the film I thought all the "real" people were animated (like in Final Fantasy movie). Seriously. So much for movie magic. Karol -
He does write on paper too. He can't write from his head (most people can't, I imagine). That's why he uses synthesizer as an aid. But he can read and write music himself. I don't know how detailed his sketches are though. Speaking of Elfman, usually if there is someone helping in writing music he (or she) appears credited as such on the CD (like in the case of Hellboy II, for example). Karol

Signs by James Newton Howard Man, I miss the times when JNH was good. I am a huge admirer of his first six Shyamalan scores. And yes, this includes The Happening as well. They were efficient and had a sense of purpose, which are two things that are abesnt from modern scoring. That is why The Last Airbender is so disappointing. I wish someone forces him to stretch his creative muscles very soon. Karol -

So does Avatar! No! It is Sigourney C.G.I. Weaver! My Winnipeg I'm not quite sure whether I think it is a good film or not, but it is certainly an interesting one. Somewhere between David Lynch and Lars von Trier's Europe. But, really, what connects me to it is the love-hate relationship with a city and how it is portrayed as a living thing. The concept isn't new, but this is the first time, I think, where is it presented on a film in such a fascinating way. Karol -

Don't get me wrong, I'm curious as to how would they execute the wooden planet concept, but, yeah, it doesn't sound too good. Not as a s-f, anyway. Karol -

And the unmade auteur vision that they're talking about on the extra features on the DVD would have been even more pompous, I think. Anyway, my point is: Alien 3 is a misguided film that doesn't do much new and all, but is far from horrible. People are exaggerating. Karol -

I enjoyed Panic Room overall. The Game, however... I don't remember anything from that film, except for the fact Michael Douglas was in it. Karol -

I never really understood why so many people hate Alien 3. Considering what he had to go through while making it, it is a really good film. At least I like it more than Aliens. It's by no means a masterpiece of any sort, but at least it doesn't embarass its franchise. Also, what's so special about Fight Club? I'll probably never figure it out. But then again it's just not my kind of movie. Karol -

That's probably because you watched it as a "serial killer" movie. And Zodiac is not about that at all. Karol -

Good that you remind me. I bought Director's Cut few months ago... and completely forgot about it. Good film and very good score. Karol
