  1. I actually just got back from seeing BOLT (along with QUANTUM OF SOLACE, which was just okay, score and film). The movie itself is actually pretty darn good for a non-Pixar effort. Definitely the best CGI animated film Disney alone has made. The music by Powell fit the film pretty well and there was actually a cool heroic theme that popped up here and there that I really liked. I heard from people that the CD release had only like 30 minutes? That's a shame because the film seemed to boast more score than that, I am wondering if a lot of the better moments were left off? I'll have to check out the CD and see.
  2. If anyone is interested in a good NTSC Nightclub Brawl with Anything Goes overdub, PM me for a look at mine. Even King Mark gave it two thumbs up!
  3. This is my personal edit of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. It uses the 2008 Concord Expanded CD release (with some tracks from the bonus disc in the exclusive box set), a couple of DVD rear-channel rips, a short section from a Lego Indiana Jones game file, and a very short section from a re-recording. When I say this edit is personal, it means that it is intended to please me more than anyone else. So I am curious if anyone finds the look of my edit appealing. It's sort of a mix of other types people are doing. I haven’t made any pitch corrections to any of the tracks, for this always results to some loss of quality or clarity (at least to my ears). For my edit I was all about presenting the soundtrack without it sounding like it came from some bootleg or DVD rip. However, I have made volume level adjustments to certain cues. I combined a lot of tracks that flow together in a suite-like fashion, taking you on a crazy ride into the dark adventure Indiana goes through. However I had a rule not to make any of the combined cues be much longer than 10 minutes. Just a preference. To me this is the best way to listen to the soundtrack with what we have available. This is in no way intended to be a complete edit, but the most enjoyable one to listen to. And this music needs to be enjoyed, doesn't it? Here is a rundown of what I have done: 1. Anything Goes (Concord Release) 2. Shanghai Deal & Turmoil (Concord Release of “Indy Negotiates”, “The Nightclub Brawl” with a DVD rip insert/mix of the unreleased ‘Anything Goes’ moment with volume boost, and “Fast Streets of Shanghai”) 3. Plane Escape (Concord Release of “Map/Out of Fuel” with a brief unreleased extension to ‘Map’ from a Lego Indiana Jones game file, and “Slalom on Mt. Humol” with volume boost) 4. Indy And The Villagers (Concord Release, from Bonus Disc) 5. The Trek (Concord Release, aka “Short Round’s Theme”) 6. The Scroll-To Pankot Palace (Concord Release) 7. Nocturnal Activities (Concord Release) 8. The Secret Passage (Concord Release, from Bonus Disc) 9. Bug Tunnel-Death Trap (Concord Release) 10. The Temple Of Doom (Concord Release) 11. Approaching The Stones (Concord Release) 12. Children In Chains (Concord Release) 13. Short Round Escapes (Concord Release) 14. Underground Chaos (Concord Release of “Saving Willie”, “Slave Children’s Crusade”, and “Short Round Helps” with volume boost on the track and certain moments near the beginning) 15. The Mine Car Chase (Concord Release) 16. Bid For Freedom (Concord Release of “Water!”, “The Sword Trick”, DVD rip of the unreleased ‘Bridge Percussion’ with volume boost, and “The Broken Bridge/British Relief” with slight volume boost for ‘British Relief’) 17. Return To The Village-End Credits (Concord Release of “Return To The Village” from the Bonus Disc, a brief moment of a re-recording from the Indiana Jones Trilogy Silva Screen Records CD of ‘Finale and End Credits’ of Temple of Doom for an unreleased opening section with volume decrease, and “End Credits” omitting the opening section) Notice that I put the "Temple of Doom" track after "Bug Tunnel-Death Trap" instead of after "Children In Chains". To me this seems more fitting because in the film, it is after the "Bug Tunnel-Death Trap" scene that you see the first thugee ceremony take place (with the famous heart-ripping scene) and hear the memorable chanting music. The "End Credits" were a pain in the a** for me to do, I don't know if anyone else had as hard a time as I did trying to get the unreleased 30 seconds to fit in right. I tried MANY different takes using ALL of the different source options we have available, and the one I ended up choosing sounded the best (and the least like an edit) to me. Sure it uses a re-recording (and one that others have told me isn't as good as the RPO one) but I still stand by my decision. If you plan on burning this on CD as a 2-Disc set, my recommended presentation is: Have Disc One end with track 09-Bug Tunnel-Death Trap. Have Disc Two begin with track 10-The Temple Of Doom. PM me if interested to "learn more" about my edit, if interested. This is how I will listen to this soundtrack from now on. What a classic.
  4. Since I am in the process or ordering and arranging my TOD cues... I couldn't help but wonder, if you ARE placing the track titled "Temple of Doom" in chronologically, where would it go exactly? To me there are two places it could go, based on preference I guess since there are two major places in the movie where the track (or versions of it anyway) get used. I personally think "Temple of Doom" should go right after "Bug Tunnel/Death Trap", because in the film, it is right after that scene that they see the Thugee ceremony take place, and a majority of the music from the track plays at this point. On the Concord release, however, they went with option two. They put "Temple of Doom" after "Children In Chains". I think they put it there because it is not long after the "Children In Chains" scene plays in the movie that the 2nd Thugee ceremony takes place, this time with Willie Scott. But there are bits of unreleased material intbetween all of this of course (most notably "A True Believer"). And in this scene the "Temple of Doom" track is all split up and interspersed with the "Short Round Escapes" cue, if memory serves right. So personally, in my chronological version, it makes more sense to put "Temple of Doom" right after "Bug Tunnel/Death Trap". Don't know if this went noticed, but THERAIDER.NET put up a review with some more pics of the set for anyone who cares: http://www.theraider.net/news/fullstory_me...dise.php?id=975
  5. not sure what you mean You know... the music that plays... when that one thing happens... and then the other thing happens... and then it moves on to something else... I'm not crazy! lol Okay, I am. But if you watch the movie and compare the tracks you will hear it, too! And then you will understand... Just watch the part from where Indy says "Water!" all the way to right when they reach the cliff when the water starts bursting out.
  6. Anyone notice that WATER! is missing a few seconds from the film version? I don't know the exact time or whatever, but I recall from the film there being a little bit more "frantic action" leading up to right when they are running toward the opening in the cliff, right before they reach it with the water bursting out. It is only a few seconds or so, but it's too bad this wasn't included. Oh well, I guess I would trade that for the new Indy opening that we ended up getting with that cue.
  7. So you only treble boost a portion of the track? yes afterwards it is crystal clear.. the sound is very muddled when the fanfare starts, on the album.. So the treble boost starts when the Bristish fanfare kicks it, but should it end when the fanfare ends, or should the boost also effect the "Indy's safe" portion (the part in the movie when he climbs up over the ledge with the shankara stone in his hand)
  8. Regarding pitch issues... if Neil's observation for RAIDERS was any indication... if the pitch actually DRIFTS within the cue, wouldn't it be near impossible to fix it without totally messing with the sound quality and making things sound even weirder than they already do?
  9. Well, since doing our own edits is inevitable, I was wondering if anyone had any luck of getting a DVD rip of the "Anything Goes" moment for NIGHTCLUB BRAWL to overlay/mix correctly. I'm having an impossible time... even tried messing with pitches, etc. I always get pretty close, but not close enough!
  10. For those of you who have a myspace (although I think even without one you can still look) at the link below you can see my album of pics I took of the new Indy set! http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?...;albumId=840159
  11. Okay I got my set today and listened to the entire Temple of Doom CD. Just from this one CD and all the artwork and stuff, I do LOVE this set and I think it's amazing to hear a lot of these unreleased cues (even in an alternate form) in a sound quality that may not be perfect but it blows away any DVD rip! Suffice to say, I think I prefer the OST sound quality of Temple of Doom (I think I downloaded APEs of the Japanese version, which I guess was in better quality?). But that's why we have the "magic" of sound editing to just use the great unreleased portions from this box set to make our own personal edits! So for those of you complaining, I don't see why. It's an opportunity to edit and "update" what a lot of us already have (DVD rips/edits). Now... it was said before that "Short Round Helps" sounded a bit different in sound quality, and I think they were right. Although it isn't really sound quality that is the problem, I think it is purely a pitch problem. It plays too slow. In fact, if you compare the first section of it to the Lego Game's file that featured the unreleased portion, it is more obvious that on CD it is slower. The lego file had it at the correct pitch. Any help as to how to make the pitch of this one track match?
  12. I think it does. The other day when it was 46.99 and went down to 44.99, my account said it was still 46.99. But the next day it did indeed go down to 44.99. Although now the page says 41.99, and my account is still at 44.99. So I am sure by tomorrow it will match again.
  13. I'm sticking with my Amazon.com preorder. They have yet to ever fail me (been buying stuff from them for years now) and let us look at the price difference. My pre-order price at Amazon.com is currently $46.99. I selected 2-day shipping, which adds $6.98. This totals to $53.97. At MovieMusic.com, they do have the low price of $39.99. However, their 2nd day shipping, according to their "help" page, is $13.99. This totals to $53.98. So... there you have it. You actually pay .01 cent more at MovieMusic.com, lol. Which is really nothing, I know, but it makes the choice between the two companies now merely based on your preference. I have never ordered from MovieMusic.com and don't know how reliable they really are, so I am sticking with what I know and trust. Especially for something as big as this. And I'm saving a penny! lol. I didn't look at the price difference with other shipping methods because I am only interested in the 2 day method. I don't want to wait too long for it, nor do I want to pay any extreme price for a single day of shipping. This option always works best for me. Don't you love marketing tactics? MovieMusic.com sure made it seem attractive, lol. Although maybe it is a lot cheaper at MovieMusic.com for the slower shipping methods for those who are willing to wait longer. I, on the other hand, simply cannot.
  14. I just noticed there is a 13 second difference between the film length and the Concord track with this cue. I wonder what they cut out of it? If I would have to guess it could be the brief moment before the great map music actually starts where Indy and Willie Scott argue on the plane. What do you guys think?
  15. Oh, now I remember one more I have always wanted: GREMLINS- Classic Jerry Goldsmith score that desperately needs to be officially released in full. Judging by all of the Goldsmith releases finally coming to CD these days, it probably won't be much longer before this finally happens. and for the hell of it: GREMLINS 2- Okay, like what I said for Jurassic Park, this one actually did get a decent album release. However, it is out of print, and there were some very fun moments not included on the CD (one of my favorites being when the gremlin who grew wings attacks the Futtermans and then becomes a gargoyle after being pushed into the wet cement). Maybe they can release both of these as two complete score 2CD set? I am sure each film's complete score can be comfortably set on one CD a piece (unless they tried to include alternates or concert arrangements). Would be a very attractive product for us score fans.
  16. Howard Shore's KING KONG- Only a few seconds of this score was heard on a production diary for the Peter Jackson film. This score was famously rejected in favor of James Newton Howard's score. Although apparently not all of it was recorded, I would love to hear what was, and maybe synth versions of the unrecorded cues. JURASSIC PARK- The album is a fair representation of the movie, but with some great missing cues (The Jeep Chase being my personal favorite) and strange arrangement decisions (Having the End Credits music labeled as "Welcome to Jurassic Park" and then having "End Credits" just be an edit from the exact same track make no sense to me at all, and consider it a waste of album space that could have went to some unreleased material) this score could use a complete re-release. Besides, it's the score of my personal favorite movie. HONEY, I SHRUNK THE KIDS- Say what you will about James Horner (most of which I actually agree with, good and bad), but his zany score for the sort-of classic Disney film is full of such energy and shameless fun that even when it steals from Amarcord (sp?), Goonies, and even himself, it is a jazzy fun ride! Though luckily a fairly good sounding complete bootleg for this score does exist, it could use an official release. This will probably never happen though due to the legality issues involved. GOONIES- Dave Grusin's catchy and fun score for the famous cult favorite needs a full release; not the two or three tracks currently present on the original album with all those gummy 80's pop songs. There are probably more that I would buy in a heartbeat if ever released, but those were the first that came to mind.
  17. 26 seconds to be exact, and it's arguable the best and most important 26 seconds... it's the part where Indy's A Theme plays with Short Round's Theme in counterpoint. It's inexcusable it wasn't included. Not to mention that fact that we now can't properly join "Return To The Village" with the "End Credits" because its the FIRST 26 seconds of the End Credits that are missing.... and the same 32 seconds from "Return To The Village" are repeated on discs 2 and 5. But luckily we can at least do a clean edit of the first 26 seconds using the RPO re-recording. Sure it isn't the original, but it sounds pretty good and it isn't a DVD rip, so the sound quality change won't be noticed at all. It's better than not having it at all, which apparently is our current situation.
  18. In this case, when using the Lego Indiana Jones game music files we have available, how accurately could we assemble this cue using the least amount of DVD rip as possible?
  19. Nope. At least on the normal DVD they're in 2.0 at 192 kHz. Standard DVD is indeed 2.0 but the BLU RAY has all of the special features in HD, so I assume the sound is as well. Anyone got the BLU RAY edition and willing to take a crack at it?
  20. I happen to like the end credits rendition of the Raiders theme. I can't see myself editing it out.
  21. Well, since most people here only want Warehouse Escape and some extended form of the Jungle Chase (whether in 3 parts, one complete whole, or just slightly expanded), I have made my own single CD tracklist for those who like doing such things. I wanted it to still fit on one CD, but that meant I had to take off 2 previous tracks. The first obvious one was the "Raiders March" since it is available on many other CDs (and it surely isn't anything new for this score). I had a hard time for a while deciding what the other dropped track would be (still needed room) but I ended up getting rid of "Orellana's Cradle". To me this track always dragged on and on and didn't have much of interest or anything that wasn't heard elsewhere. It was also, personally, at my least favorite moment in the film where I thought it had REALLY stopped dead with exposition and a rather uninteresting discovery of the Crystal Skull and Orellana and his men. So it was good to have that reminder omitted. I originally was just going to cut out the 2nd half of "Journey to Akator" since it was basically like source music, but couldn't edit it right without it fading out too suddenly, or just sounding "fan edited". If anyone has any idea or has made a really, really good edit of this, let me know. Anyway, lol. Here is my personal track list. It is pretty much in film order (I know some parts need to be edited around for that to be totally true, but this is close enough), but with the concert arrangements starting off. I'll probably never listen to the OST again. The whole thing flows so much better. Especially with the new stuff. 01- Call of the Crystal 02- The Adventures of Mutt 03- Irina's Theme 04- The Spell of the Skull 05- Warehouse Escape* 06- A Whirl Through Academe 07- The Journey to Akator 08- Oxley's Dilemma 09- Grave Robbers 10- Secret Doors and Scorpions 11- "Return" 12- The Snake Pit 13- The Jungle Chase (Expanded)* 14- Ants! 15- Hidden Treasure and the City of Gold 16- Temple Ruins and the Secret Revealed 17- The Departure 18- Finale Now this is an Indiana Jones score.
  22. What I did for this was use a tiny bit of a DVD rip of the last note (it goes on a bit longer before the SFX happen then on the PreViz) and then I actually used the very end of the Jungle Chase Previz note over it to make it have a very nice and smooth ending. Sure it isn't exactly how Williams wrote it, but then again neither is it the way everyone else is doing it. At least this way it doesn't sound cheesy or cheaply done, and will flow perfectly within the OST now. Anyone who wants to hear my edit just... let me know.
