  1. Really? That's peculiar. Arnold is one of the few composers right now who actually write distinct cues, no matter you like his music or not. Target Terminated is no exeption in my book. My only complaint is the sound of his later scores - very little reverb with volume of each section of the orchestra crancked up to full.
  2. Besides Arnold was busy preparing the Olympics. As much as Barry established what is consindered a classic Bond sound, Arnold did the same with modern Bond sound. Despite all the controversy surrounding his scores, I think most people find this particular blend of orchestral and electronic music quite fitting contemporary adventures of 007.
  3. O r i g i n a l scores aren't much desired these days.
  4. I'm preety sure they used Arnold's music as a temp track for this movie.
  5. May it be first piece of music from the upcoming soundtrack? http://www.iflymagazine.com/?locale=nl_nl&utm_source=reminder&utm_medium=mail&utm_content=nlnl&utm_campaign=ifly23&WT.mc_id=1928936|6659127|81779210|257912810|1023761&WT.tsrc=email&&&WT.tsrc=email#/bright/cocacola/ It doesn't sound too much like Newman, on the other hand he is a versatile composer after all, so who knows. I can't say I would mind if the real soundtrack sounded like this.
  6. Not that I don't believe that Adele sings the song, but "confirmed" it's just an empty word here, unless they reveal reliable source of that news.
  7. It has been online for a long time, but since not everyone might know it, I thought I should post the links. 2 CDs of fantastically orchestrated and performed music of Nobuo Uematsu from the whole series of FF games (plus brand new FF XIV medley) - you can listen to all of it on the official Final Fantasy: Distant Worlds website. Highly recommended. It's recorded by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and the choir Allmänna Sången, and produced and conducted by Arnie Roth.
  8. There are plenty of good, well-trained composers out there, but studio executives and most of directors don't want original, artsy-fartsy scores in their movies anymore. Heck, neither do most of moviegoers.
  9. It's mostly from Tomorrow Never Dies and The World is Not Enough (Going Down/The Bunker). I don;t know the piece that opens the clip, it's definitely not Arnold's.
  10. Maybe it supposes to be operatic, larger larger than life finale cue... Who knows? The music sounds very old fashioned, almost like it's form golden age.
  11. A less-discussed Bond score which I am very fond of. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3uYJhKdgIs Here is another gem - Barry's last Bond output and one of his best IMO ... but that's trully underrated Bond soundtrack
  12. A clip from the recording session of Abel's new score - Escape from Tomorrow (looks like another indie film; the music sounds stunning though) http:// vimeo.com/47905033 (delete space in link)
  13. Or Empire of the Sun II - a J.G. Ballard biopic, of course starring Ch. Bale.
  14. Full soundtrack is available here: http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=34498n I haven't listened to all of it, but it actually sounds better than I expected. For a Zimmer, that is.
  15. The composer of cult scores of 60s and 70s - Dirty Harry, Bullit, Enter the Dragon, Mission: Impossible and others - celebrates his 80th birthday today. He was born the same year as Williams, Kilar and Legrand - what a great generation for film music! [media=]http://youtu.be/HcLD_nLp-bg
  16. Yes, they are. You can make a shitty score for an expensive and high-grossing movie and you'll be hired for the next one. You can write some of best music in the last couple of years for small, independend pictures and no one is going to let you write anything else. Welcome to Hollywood.
  17. Like always in case of Nolan-Zimmer collaboration, the album will suck a s s, but the score as heard in the movie will do wonders.
  18. Are there going to be techno remixes like in case of PotC 4?
  19. A composer to whom directors/producers go if they want certain skills appropriate for a certain type of movie.
  20. Battle for Terra has been long available on "black market", especially after the composer himself gave it away some time ago, so I have little hope Lala is going to release it. Not that I wouldn't buy it, if they did. The reason for little talk is mainly, because he doesn't do much these days. Despite his talent, versatility and couple highly regarded scores in his portfolio, the mainstream Hollywood (mainly executives) still look down on him, typecasting him as a go-to composer for a mildly successful, artsy gay-dramas or something. Having written a great score for totally unsuccessful Madonna's crap doesn't help him either in the eyes of studio accountants. Such flops can really hamper composers career, since the big-budget productions often settle for the least risky options, which in the end result in bland, formated, RPC-type ostinato-driven score.
