  1. RE-RECORDING GOLDSMITH is now back online. http://www.cinematicsound.net/re-recording-goldsmith/ Enjoy!
  2. Update: I had to take down the Goldsmith program. I have to correct some of factual errors in my read. Sorry about that. The show will be back up later today or tomorrow.
  3. I'm just going to dump all of my podcast notifications in this thread from now. I assume you'll like that because you guys like to keep things tidy around here which I can appreciated. Ok... here's my update for today. TWO NEW SHOWS WENT UP THIS WEEK THE FLAGSHIP SHOW: FAVOURITE SCORES OF 2020 – PART 1 http://www.cinematicsound.net/the-flag-ship-show-fav-scores-2020-pt1/ On today’s new episode of THE FLAGSHIP SHOW on CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO NETWORK, Erik Woods selects his ten favourite scores of 2020. This is part one of a two-part series. Today, you’ll hear selections 10 – 6 which includes music by Dan Romer, Benh Zeitlin, Ralf Wengermayr, John Powell, Thomas Clay, and Austin Wintory. NEW EPISODE - RE-RECORDING GOLDSMITH http://www.cinematicsound.net/re-recording-goldsmith/ On today’s episode of THE FLAGSHIP SHOW on the CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PODCAST NETWORK, we’ll be paying tribute to legendary composer Jerry Goldsmith. Goldsmith was born on February 10th, 1929 and would have turned 92 years young today. Goldsmith passed away on July 21, 2004, have scored hundreds of feature films, TV shows, TV mini-series’, concert works, commercials, film studio logos, theme park rides and radio programs. He was the recipient of one Academy Award, five Emmy’s and one Satellite Award. To honour Goldsmith on his birthday, we have put together a program called RE-RECORDING GOLDSMITH which is part of an ongoing series of re-recording programs here at CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO. RE-RECORDING GOLDSMITH features new recordings of some of Goldsmith’s best scores and some rarities as well. You’ll hear selections from CHINATOWN, RUDY, HOOSIERS, A GATHERING OF EAGLES, FANFARE FOR OSCAR, SEVEN DAYS IN MAY, SUPERGIRL, THE WIND AND THE LION, and many more featuring performances by The City of Prague Philharmonic, The Royal Philharmonic, The Kanagawa Philharmonic, The London Symphony, Dominic Hauser, Seattle Symphony and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. ----- APPLE https://apple.co/2YMYnMN SPOTIFY https://open.spotify.com/episode/78RTBYtL8x2SC22k5UoNg4 MERCH STORE https://www.teepublic.com/stores/cinematic-sound-radio Enjoy! -Erik-
  4. All I can offer at this moment is Jon Broxton’s superb review of the score which mirrors my thoughts about the score. https://moviemusicuk.us/2020/12/29/wonder-woman-1984-hans-zimmer/
  5. Right... that's what I said above. If there aren't enough eligible re-recordings then they go into a category called BEST ARCHIVAL RELEASE – RE-RELEASE OR RE-RECORDING. If there *are* enough eligible re-recordings then that archival release category is labelled as BEST ARCHIVAL RELEASE – RE-RELEASE. -Erik-
  6. We go over this every year. If there aren't enough re-recordings in a given year then we add them to the ARCHIVAL RELEASE – RE-RELEASE OR RE-RECORDING category. That's not what we are saying at all. All that says is that they didn't get enough votes. That's democracy for ya! -Erik-
  7. If the Award bodies decided to look beyond their own noses they'd find a good helping of great films released last year. Same goes for film scores. -Erik-
  8. I don't agree but what would be the minimum amount of releases in order to give out awards according to you? -Erik-
  9. I'm all for changing the rules because I honestly thinks they are stupid to begin with but if they are the rules NOW then you DO NOT make exceptions, especially if you AREN'T going to make exceptions for others. That's the point. -Erik-
  10. As long as the composers work on the score equally AND as collaborators then you can have as many composers nominated that you want. However, they would only hand out one trophy if the score won. But in this case, Batiste didn't work with R&R, which is why adding Batiste to the ballot was going to get the score DQ'd. But it looks like the Music Branch doesn't care about THEIR OWN RULES and have gone to bat for this score but not for Thomas Newman and his score to Let Them All Talk. There was no hope in hell that Newman's score would ever get nominated but they DQ'd that score because of their rules yet decided to bend them for Disney. BULL-SHIT!!!! -Erik-
  11. The Music Branch, The Academy and Disney are certainly making sure of this by bending the rules for them and them only. If I was a composer and my score had been DQ'd in the past I would be PISSED. Why go to bat for R&R and not for anyone else? What a bunch of hypocrites. The Music Branch and the Academy have no integrity or principles whatsoever. Soul is a mediocre score at best. I'm done with the Oscars. -Erik-
  12. Fun!!! but I cheated... I did 11 because I felt that JUPITER needs those two tracks. 1. Married Life from UP 2. Hunting For Jules from M:I3 3. Dinner Rush from RATATOUILLE 4. Peenemunde from SECRET WEAPONS OVER NORMANDY 5. Pin-Ultimate Experience from TOMORROWLAND 6. Sab Than Pursues The Princess from JOHN CARTER 7. Parting Words from LOST: SEASON 1 8. I Hate My Life from JUPITER ASCENDING 9. The Shadow Chase from JUPITER ASCENDING 10. The Jet Aircraft Facility from MEDAL OF HONOR 11. The Incredits from THE INCREDIBLES BTW, Rogue One is a fantastic score and if you want you can add the BRILLIANT "Confrontation on Eadu" as a bonus track. Enjoy!
  13. Yes, there were very strong scores in the TV and especially the video game worlds BUT there were PLENTY of strong film scores in 2020. I had a very difficult time trimming down my Top 10 scores of 2020 list. Lots of great stuff, unfortunately, left on the cutting room floor.
  14. Just a reminder... this isn't Lorne Balfe's fault. Would you say no if a director came up to you can said, "Wanna score the next Mission: Impossible film?" So, I hope no one tags Balfe because 1) that would be rude and 2) Balfe is actually a really, really nice guy who doesn't need to be dragged into this.
  15. It's as if you don't even listen to ANYTHING OTHER than Williams and Powell with a comment like that. MASQUERADE HOTEL, GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS, MIDSOMMER, SHAZAM!, TRAUMFABRIK, UNTAMED ROMANIA, MAX & ME, MARY SHELLEY, THE MIRCALE SEASON, EL FOTOGRAFO DE MAUTHAUSEN, THE EMPEROR OF PARIS, WATERSHIP DOWN, BENJI, JIM KNOPF UND DIE WILDE 13, OUT OF THE SHADOWS, MARY POPPIN RETURNS, THE CLOVERFIELD PARADOX, BLACK PANTHER, READY PLAYER ONE, CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS, PHANTOM THREAD, THE DEATH OF STALIN, THE PERSONAL HISTORY OF DAVID COPPERFIELD, ALBION THE ENCHANTED STALLION, CELLO, REBEL IN THE RYE, A CURE FOR WELLNESS, THE RENDEZVOUS, 95, THE RED TURTLE, PETE'S DRAGON, GODS OF EGYPT, 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE, DARK WAVES, SWISS ARMY MAN, NERVE, MORIBITO: GUARDIAN OF THE SPIRIT, THE CAIRO DECLARATION, KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS, WONDER WOMAN 1984, FUKUSHIMA 50... Whoops... that was more than two.
  16. Ugh... I hate doing home work for other people and I'm sure you'll just crap all over what ever I write because you already have your mind set but here we go anyway... And yes, Giacchino, Desplat, Powell, Silvestri, Howard, etc are still writing scores in that style you so covet. But there is a new crop of exciting composers that have been passed the torch and are doing great things in the film, TV and video game world... Look up people like Christopher Willis, Nami Melumad, Philip Klein, Austin Wintory, Gordy Haab, Marcus Paus, Federico Jusid, Fernando Velazquez, Eímear Noone, Chad Cannon, Marcus Trumpp, Anne Kathrin Dern,. Ralf Wengenmayr, Carlos Riveria, Amelia Warner, George Kallis, Alexander Cimini, John Paesano, Abel Korzenowski, Panu Aaltio, etc, etc, etc... All of them... extremely gifted and are currently crafting wonderful, varied scores that keep film music magical, nostalgic, fun, exciting and new. Now it's up to you to discover them for yourself.
  17. No, I really do appreciate it and I've been meaning to respond but I'm just so busy right now. At the moment, I'm not sure I want to continue with the new format... at least not by myself. Give me a few more days to get everything under control and then I'll come back and respond to each of you and your suggestions. I really do appreciate the time you all took to listen and offer your thoughts. Cheers,
