  1. Hehe you forgot korngold, steiner, herrmann and mancini my friend
  2. IMo, williams=good because he can take classical influences and use them to create his own personal style. and btw, for that person who had to do that paper about influences, buckbeak theme and brahm's third symphony first movement.
  3. SOBER rearranged = BROSE. i just noticed something. from most of the member names, it seems as if a large majority of the people on this board are generally male according to their nicknames.
  4. Hey I finished a final mix of Aurora. Yay! (i fixed the balances). i have a question tho. i can't seem to get rid of blips (yes i cut here and there but i don't know how to fade them together after you cut out .03 seconds. anyone know how?
  5. or if we all want to be cheap, we can all set up a JWFAN account in iTunes. I believe they have a one week trial thingy . So we can all use that.
  6. Well Spielberg and Williams are both amazing geniuses. The important thing of course is that Spielberg likes music and respects williams' music. i recall for ET he said he would cut the film to william's bike chase sequence rather than other way around. It's because of these things that they are so successful.
  7. I was curious if there were any signature editions that are out of print? like old ones from the original conception of signature editions.
  8. when i meant best, i meant best recording. not best song. those were my picks of best recording for those things.
  9. does anyone have the complete ET, SW and JP cue lists? by that i mean say for the ending: Bike Chase, The Departure. not the bad one in our complete cue lists, which isnt the real titles. i'm talking the ones off the scores or stuff cuz i'm trying to study how williams uses the cues in relation to the film to hone my technique.
  10. i like this scorpion dance. i think its F-E-G-F-F-E. i'm not sure. BG harmonies dont sound very seventhy tho. thats why i dont think its williams.
  11. I have an idea! let's work on a CD that we can consult on whenever we want to compare the released sheet music with the music, as a learning experience. Of course it is IMPORTANT that we select the BEST tracks. Of course, we can splice up from different takes etc. So here's what i think so far: Across the Stars Soundtrack Star Wars Main Title From John Williams conducts Star Wars w. Skywalker Orch Yoda Theme From JW 1969-1999 Imperial March From JW 1969-1999 Princess Leia's Theme 1997 Release Soundtrack Throne Room From John Williams conducts Star Wars w. Skywalker Orch (the recording is not consistent with the score. the first timpani hit is off. is the naxos recording better?) Superman March From JW 1969-1999 Adventures on Earth Star Wars/Superman/ ET Lost World Cannot Find (the Soundtrack is missing 10 or so bars) Escapades Soundtrack Close Encounters ?? Raiders March Soundtrack Schindler's List Treesong
  12. how bout hte best of williams/boston pops thingy? it has the words excerpts and close encounters.
  13. what is this scorpion dance thing? i havent' heard of it.
  14. hey, when someone with hyperspace listens/rips the file, could you send me the file btw? i'm not a hyperspace member nor do i think i should be spending money to find out a tad-bit more info about a movie.
  15. i dont recall any horn intro in the one i'm thinking of. the dvd cover is shiny like goldy/holofoil or whatever. it begins with like bongos or something then launches into strings wtih: G-B-G-A A-C-A-B. or something like that. i know the first four notes are right (maybe not perfect pitch right).
  16. You know the Universal music? who's it by? i'm talking about the one on the Jurassic Park dvd, right when you begin. The universal Dvd or whatever theme.
  17. Soundforge? I used adobe audition to attempt to fix it. well i have a new mix (it was my fault for levels haha). i'm going to upload it soon.
  18. Yay I finally recorded my song live! I was using a 32 piece high school orch with reduced strings for my recording so it is not that good. my mixing is a bit off /not good balance (i'll fix it over the week). but here's a demo of the song, Aurora. Tuning was...well...um, this is where i wish i had a 60 piece orchestra that was in tune. And i was stupid when i recorded the vox. I wanted to be professional so i stuck the mike from above, but it turns out that the mike was a condensor and basically, i picked up the sound off the floor instead of from the mouth, hence hte voice is super echo. oh well. enjoy. http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=507168&T=574
  19. i'm sure someone recorded the thing tho. they broadcasted it over the net live so someone had to have recorded it.

    whoa

I think we should defend the newer composers and how they use the overdubbing technique. I for one, use that technique. It's a practicality issue really. Out of everyone who has recorded anything, i'm sure a large number woudl agree that it is the most annoying thing ever. It's the most wonderful to hear them play it in front of you. But it's so annoying to rerecord when they make a mistake or something. Usually i need to record like 5 times at least, because something has to happen. So, if you overdub, the better musicians can record in one take while the others a bit more. And aswell, for mixing issues, it's much easier to record individual sections to bring them out a bit more IMO. often when i shotgun a group, i find there's quite a bit of bleeding into the mike from the other instruments (of course i'm not using Pro technology). So if you overdub, you get rid of that as well.

    whoa

I found out that my cello teacher knew john williams. He played under him for several of his concerts in LA (and recorded some goldsmith as well). Unfortunately, he didn't get to record any movie music used in the movies since at that time, JW considered him not old/experienced enough for an actual recording. He's no longer in LA, but still i thought this was interesting. However, my teacher's friends in LA are still recording stuff for JW. He knew that clarinetist who recorded the Terminal. And he also knows a flutist who is really excited because she is going to record something soon in May. You guessed it. The War of the Worlds. (she also played his flute concerto, and recorded some ET, etc). So mebbe we can get some insider info on the music? That would be sick.
  22. Haha review my stuff too (i posted this linke before but wahtever). i'm recording Aurora with a live orch tomorrow morning Yay! so i'll post a good quality mp3 version of it when i'm done mixing it. http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?AID=285685&T=4396
  23. wait. do i get to bash morlock now?
  24. btw, is williams conducting the oscars this year?
