  1. I'd have to disagree with you there Joe. Certainly in regard to the British Psyche anyway. Its deep in everyones memory here. Play the famous theme from Chariots here, and people would recognize it immediately as from that film. Probably because its been used heavily in school sports events since then. Hehehe. Plus, because of the culture of the film. I also like 1492, Stewdog. Do you have Vangelis' El Greco and Mask CD'S (not film scores). 1492 was the first CD i ever purchased when moving from tape to CD. Ayahuasca - Who has quite a lot of Vangelis' CD's
  2. I agree with you Morn. That really is the problem with Horner. Brainstorm and Wrath of Khan were masterpieces. But later on he got scared of experimenting like he did in his earlier scores. Braveheart was a return to good form. His early scores made full use of orchestra. I agree that he is full of potential. But for some reason he chooses not to experiment as much as he used to.
  3. I've often wondered about that too. Sometimes i think "nobody other than Brad Fidel could of done the Terminator score" for example. Same with Horner's Brainstorm. But when it comes to it, i still think those films such as close encounters were also largely a sucess because of excellent direction and story and still woudl of been hits
  4. I dont think that guy is trying to stop anyones opinion Ren. He may be saying "we dont know the deal between Lucas and Williams" And in all honesty, has anyone heard any complaints from Williams yet? I tend to agree that director and composer do whats right for the picture.
  5. I'm not angry. I have'nt even seen the film yet. But i agree with what you said about some moaning as if Williams is their score slave.
  6. Close Encounters without a doubt Ross....its a wonderful 2DVD set. The print is superb...and has deleted scenes, documentarys etc There are some long documentarys about the making, and interviews. Ayahuasca - Who purchased it about a month ago. P.S : Its come down in price quite recently too. Good bargain. I got it for about $8
  7. I personally dont think i would buy a 2CD set again if i owned the original. Its blatant consumer manipulation which needs to be halted at the start line. PM Ultimate Edition can be allowed through. But releasing a double CD of AOTC? Well, that would prove conclusively that its just sneeky deliberate manipulation.
  8. Morn is lost for words about how good horner's early scores were
  9. Apparently its John Williams the Guitarist. http://plum.cream.org/williams/quotes.htm This link gives some info for you.
  10. True...true Ayahuasca - Who got his dusty CD of Robocop (Poledouris) out of the back room today. I'd forgotten how good that score is.
  11. Because it was crap...hehehe No just joking....just joking.... I felt there were too many "unusual and varied monsters". It just reminded me of the Cantina from Star Wars a bit.
  12. How about....In no particular order : E.T Extra Terrestrial (Wiliams) Close Encounters (Williams) Ben Hur (Miklos Rozsa) Lawrence of Arabia (Jarre) Empire Strikes Back (Williams) Star Trek Motion Picture (Goldsmith) Star Trek 2 Wrath of Khan (Horner) Star Wars (Williams) Brainstorm (Horner) Jurassic Park (Williams) P.S : Is that a side photo of Horner in your avatar?..or Robert DeNiro? Van Chase from Robocop (Poledouris)
  13. So, onto Star Trek moments..hehe Um..let me think "It is the will of LAAANDRUUU" (original series...funny episode) "Dooont LAUGH AT ME....(evil downward stare from Charlie X) "MISTER DATA!" ( common loud shakesperian bark from Picard ) "I wanna LIIIIIVEEE" ( Kirk's other half self after transporter seperation) "This makes you too dangerous a species for ouur needs" (bubble head in - The Cage) "Stand by for our transmission.......here it comes" ( Kirk - ST2 ) "Mr garth" (spock)...."LORD GARTH" (garth)..."(pause and eyebrow raise) as you wish" (Spock) The "Whom Gods destroys" episode cracks me up..They should show it on TV again. Basically any episode where Kirk is overacting his pain or torment. Or when they land on an utopian ancient greek type passivist culture. Those always make way for Kirk getting upset and angry with them. There are so many episodes/films.....its hard to remember the best bits.
