Label Threads The Official Varese Sarabande Thread
Charlie Brigden posted a topic in General Discussion
I know a few people suggested an official Varese thread along the lines of FSM and Intrada, so I thought I'd make one, especially as there are two new releases on the site, including a new Desplat. THE CRAZIES Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Music Composed by Mark Isham Imagine living in a small town where everything is safe and happy...until suddenly it isn't. Imagine your friends and neighbors going quickly and horrifically insane. In a terrifying tale of the “American Dream” gone horribly wrong, four friends find themselves trapped in their hometown in The Crazies, a reinvention of the George Romero classic directed by Breck Eisner from a screenplay by Ray Wright (Pulse, Case 39) and Scott Kosar (The Amityville Horror, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre). David Dutten (Timothy Olyphant) is sheriff of Ogden Marsh, a picture-perfect American town with happy, law-abiding citizens. But one night, one of them comes to a school baseball game with a loaded shotgun, ready to kill. Another man burns down his own house … after locking his wife and young son in a closet inside. Within days, the town has transformed into a sickening asylum; people who days ago lived quiet, unremarkable lives have now become depraved, blood-thirsty killers, hiding in the darkness with guns and knives. Sheriff Dutten tries to make sense of what's happening as the horrific, nonsensical violence escalates. Something is infecting the citizens of Ogden Marsh … with insanity. Now complete anarchy reigns as one by one the townsfolk succumb to an unknown toxin and turn sadistically violent. In an effort to keep the madness contained, the government uses deadly force to close off all access and won't let anyone in or out -- even those uninfected. The few still sane find themselves trapped: Sheriff Dutten; his pregnant wife, Judy (Radha Mitchell); Becca (Danielle Panabaker), an assistant at the medical center; and Russell (Joe Anderson), Dutten's deputy and right-hand man. Forced to band together, an ordinary night becomes a horrifying struggle for survival as they do their best to get out of town alive. Mark Isham, who amplified the terror in The Mist, provides the chilling score. Overture Films opens The Crazies on February 26. Varèse Sarabande Catalog #: 302 067 009 2 Release Date: 02/23/10 THE GHOSTWRITER Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Music Composed by Alexandre Desplat Ewan McGregor Pierce Brosnan Kim Catrall Olivia Williams The New Film From Roman Polanski THE GHOSTWRITER tells the story of a former British Prime Minister, Adam Lang (Pierce Brosnan), who is holed up on an island off the Eastern seaboard of the U.S. in midwinter, writing his memoirs. When his long-standing aide drowns, a professional ghostwriter (Ewan McGregor) is sent out to help him finish the book. The anonymous ghost writer is quickly drawn into a political and sexual intrigue involving Lang’s wife, Ruth (Olivia Williams) and his aide (Kim Cattrall). Hanging over Lang is the threat of a war crimes trial and a mysterious secret from his past that threatens to jeopardize international relations. The cast also includes Jim Belushi, Robert Pugh and Tom Wilkinson. THE GHOSTWRITER is based on the novel The Ghost written by best-selling author Robert Harris. It won the International Thriller Writers’ Award for best novel of 2008. Harris joined director Roman Polanski in adapting the book for the big screen. Academy Award nominee Alexandre Desplat (The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button) has created a suspenseful and captivating work, which recalls the classic thriller scores of the legendary Bernard Herrmann. Summit Entertainment opens THE GHOSTWRITER nationwide on February 19. Varèse Sarabande Catalog #: 302 067 007 2 Release Date: 02/23/10 -

Every time I receive a Perseverance newsletter I'm dumbfounded by the lack of basic web design knowledge and professionalism. Look at that mess if you dare. Charging people for a CD that hasn't even been pressed yet? I also have a feeling that "we tried and did not convince the label" equates to "Can we include Schifrin's score?" - "No." - "Okay." I also just realized he says more reissues from people like John and Jerry are coming up. Great, no chance for more music. Unless it's deliberately misleading and he means some random John and Jerry whose last names aren't Williams and Goldsmith.

We don't seem to have a thread for these guys. I had NO idea they had been around for 30 years! They seem to only release a handful of CDs per year, most of them re-recordings co-created with Tadlow and the City of Prague orchestra. They don't seem to have an official website, and I don't even know if there is a listing of all their titles available online anywhere? Anyways, SAE is having a sale on 12 of their titles, and they might interest some people: http://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=101224
