Eiffel Tower's fireworks on July 14th 2007

Recommended Posts

Hi JWFans !

Here is a new report from France, where John WILLIAMS is really appreciate.

As you perhaps know, our French National Day is on July 14th (it commemorates the Feast of Federation on July 14th 1790 in fact, not the fall of the Bastille on July 14th 1789 as many people think). So, each year, in Paris, there are a big revue of the army by our President and spectacular fireworks in the Eiffel Tower (Champ-de-Mars).

This year, there is a big Concert of Fraternity, Libre champ, organized by our new President (Nicolas SARKOZY), with the French DJ Bob SINCLAR, the Italian singer Laura PAUSINI (who performed Canto), the very young German hard rock group Tokyo Hotel, the Canadian (born in Portugal) R&B singer Nelly FURTADO (who performed Do it, Promiscuous and Man-eater) and the French singer Michel POLNAREFF, who lives in USA for 30 years.

Then, there is the firework, based on Paris and Cinema, in fact to close the 5th Festival Paris Cinema ! But fireworks were quite boring this year and the sound awful… <_< Meanwhile, 6 themes were chosen : “poesy” (with Charles CHAPLIN’s City lights and Yann TIERSEN’s Amelie…) ; “action” (with famous Ennio MORRICONE’s As a judgement from Once upon a time in the West and more famous Monty NORMAN’s James BOND theme David ARNOLD's version…) ; “drama” (with Bjork’s Dancer in the dark and Miles DAVIS’ Lift to the scaffold…) ; “love” (with Umebayshi SHIGERU’s In the mood for love…) ; “grand spectacle” with Miklos ROSZA’s Parade of charioteers from Ben Hur and, quite more interesting for all of us, with the 2 longest tracks of this show, John WILLIAMS’ Hedwige’s theme from Harry POTTER and the philosopher’s stone and Main title / Rebel blockade runner from A new hope (this last one was applauded by every one, really delirious, and it was the only moment when the firework was interesting, with some beautiful spirals) ;) ; “musical” (with Jacques OFFENBACH’s The Fauns from Orpheus in the underworld Barz LUHRMAN’s Moulin Rouge version and the Sherman brothers’ Chim chim cher-ee from Mary POPPINS…).

So, one time again, a great tribute to JW’s soundtracks in France ! :ola: I join you these 2 pictures of the event. Thank you and congratulations for all your work ! See you soon for other French news !

Well I bet they would taste of sweet nicotine, so I wouldn't be complaining.

For a bunch of car-burning, socialist surrender-monkees, they are not bad at all.

Hey don't knock the English, we're proud of our sympathetic attitudes!

Oops! Don't let the thread turn political, it might get locked.

Yes and the impact it made on my life and memory can be likened to a mosquito ramming the Earth.

Is there something I should have gained from it?

Yes. The score should have left some impression on you.

I liked Star of Bethlehem and Setting the Trap, does that count?

Sorry...just too cloy for me. Unless it's Christmas time though.

I find it as the best Christmas film score ever. Perhaps too good, because I can't listen but to the two tracks above I mentioned at any other time of the year.
