London Symphony Orchestra at Canary Wharf

Omen II

Recommended Posts

As in previous years, the London Symphony Orchestra will be giving a free concert in Canada Square Park in London's Docklands on Wednesday 27th August. The programme is yet to be confirmed, but I understand that it will include film music with a space theme. While I do not know what pieces will be performed, it would be no surprise if there were something to interest John Williams fans. Details, such as there are at the moment, can be found in a galaxy far, far away behind these underlined words.

Switch off your mobile and bring a brolly.

LOVE that work, most powerful choral work ever!

Sounds good. I should be able to make it, although it will depend on timings with work & getting up to London.

Plus, I've never met anyone on this board yet which is a disgrace considering how much time I spend on here.

Programme to include music from:

Star Wars

Star Trek: The Motion Picture

Independence Day

Things To Come

Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Looks damn exciting. I'm going and will be taking my camcorder to capture as much of it as possible. This is after all, the LSO!

And the weather better not ruin it....

Just got back from this: wow. That was one hell of a performance from the LSO. We got Alien, Aliens, Star Wars (twice), Superman, E.T., X-Files, Doctor Who Theme, a cue from I think it was You Only Live Twice, and more. Superman and the encore of SW got a standing ovation and could probably be heard by half of London.

I got roughly 2/3 of it on video, although I don't yet know the quality as it was dark for most of it. I'll get the highlights and bung it on youtube soon.

I've finally got the highlights from this up on youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fecmjtOp7iQ - 2001, Star Trek TMP, Imperial March

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTs8XnY5LjU - Leia's Theme

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yATQT6qibOk - a cue from Aliens, I think it's Ripley's Rescue

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ik7L3msn05w - Adventures on Earth (that's me 'wooow'-ing in the background once I realised what it was)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pPfXqMirfI - end of previous cue, Alien, Star Wars

This was a great audience for both reactions and respecting when the orchestra was actually playing unlike at Hollywood Bowl!

Other notables were Ce3K and Superman, but my battery and tape were both going by this point.

I'm afraid I didn't get that. I think it was in the middle somewhere and I needed to conserve power/tape for the inevitable finale/encore.

And I got a second battery through the post 2 days later. Timing sucks sometimes.
