Deborah Lee James) released a Facebook photo post to salute John Williams as a former Air Force Band member. I'm glad they seem to confirm his stint in the air force as being from 1952-1955, which is in total synch with the timeline I've pieced together (more specifically January-52 to January-55). They probably just pulled it from the article, but one would think they'd double-check this with their own archives -- him being "one of their own", after all.In either case, it's the only timeline that makes sense.
