Apparently 4k isn't always 4k.

A good post. I find that, generally, the older a film is, the better the Blu transfer is, whether it's 2, or 4k. Recent transfers of THE THIRD MAN, HIGHLANDER, and THE LION IN WINTER, are really nice.

THUNDERBALL looks great, but it's a shame that it's a cut-up, slow, movie.

Mind you, Fiona Volpe could kill me anytime!

On the subject of Star Trek: my Blu of ST:TMP looks beautiful.

Surely, that is far from being the rule. Nothing beats from digital to digital!

(you don't mind if I call you Shirley, do you?)

Ya kidding? TMP looks awful. DNR'd to hell. Compare the actual movie to the trailers included on the disc and you'll see a huge difference. The trailers look better.

I'll check them out, asap.

I don't give a damn about digital; celluloid is where I'm at. I accept that, in order to preserve film, digital is the way forward, but I love the film stock from the 60s, and early 70s. It has a "organic" look.

As for calling me Shirley, you must do what you feel is right, if course.

Call me what you like, just don't call me late for dinner.

Digital is getting better and better. The Alexa 65 produces gorgeous large format images.

The Revenant was at least partly shot on it and the whole of Rogue One was. Revenant makes for a stunning UHD disc and as soon as Disney adopts the format I'm sure Rogue One will as well.
