  1. LOL @ how similar his hair is with a drawn poster from 9 years ago.
  2. Wut the fudge... I really can't hear most of that. Which I guess is a testament to Williams' (and the orchestrator's) skill! And the orchestra's blending prowess of course.
  3. Survivor: Nicaragua for me! First two episodes have been old-school.
  4. Reunion of Friends is a great listening experience, regardless. But GOD DAMN that lydian (seventh chord in 6/5 position) statement of Hedwig's Theme at 1:06 in Leaving Hogwart's is sublime, especially with those nervous string passages dancing underneath. EDIT: Am I right in thinking it's a flute doubled with an upper register cor anglais?
  5. Sounds a bit minimalistic. But hey, it worked for Saving Buckbeak, right?
  6. Maybe I need to go to bed but is it just me or has nobody posted Conrad's Facebook posting re: Desplat's score?
  7. The recording of "Leaving Hogwarts" is just so much more tender and organic and lovely than "Reunion of Friends". I wonder why... And when the flute plays Hedwig's Theme in that ethereal major modality (I forget which), I consistently get overcome by shivers.
  8. In a sense, yes, but it was never intended to be a new recurring theme -- evidently -- and justified in that it was retroactively composed for a character who already had a theme. It was varied sufficiently (based on the material) in TPM, and then when the second film suddenly discarded the boy prodigy character, launching headfirst into a romance, "Anakin's Theme" was likewise essentially discarded to become hidden within "Across the Stars" and other more relevant hints of Vader's Theme and March appeared. But obviously it's well established that the evolution of Vader's Theme is weak. Coincidentally so is the evolution of the character and the trilogy.
  9. Yeah Mark? Really? WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO ANAKIN'S THEME? HUH? WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED MAN?! ... /showstopperforanythemedevelopmentargument Erm... Anakin's Theme *is* a new rendition of Vader's Theme. You sort of proved Mark's point.
  10. Damn. Missed out on this. Any chance they will press more?
  11. Awesome, a 70-track 2-disc CD! I hope this becomes more readily available than Japanese Club Nintendo. And yeah, all the links in my opening post were removed by Nintendo lol, so I may get round to relinking them later. But this is truly one of the greatest orchestral feats of 2010, without a doubt. It's my Williams fix until Tintin/War Horse.
  12. As a 24-year-old man, I concur with your son. Meanwhile, I found this YouTube comment to be quite uplifting:
  13. Anyone in the U.S. bought the game yet? The music is (for lack of a better word) amazing -- there's a greater percentage of fully orchestral music than in the original game -- and it all can be heard on YouTube here. (Automatic playlist here.) It should sit right at home for most of you John Williams fans. If you're short on time but are curious nonetheless, I've picked out some of what I consider to be the best (a bit out of 'order' lol). They loop so after a while feel free to skip: Title Sky Station Galaxy 1 Sky Station Galaxy 2 Credits Starship Mario Fluffy Bluff Galaxy Slipsand Galaxy (great trombone solo!) Hurry! Cosmic Cove Galaxy Fleet Glide Galaxy Melty Monster Galaxy Space Storm Galaxy Honeybloom Galaxy Epilogue Ending And of course, the epic boss music Bowser Jr.'s Fiery Flotilla Bowser's Galaxy Generator Final Bowser Battle Bowser Brawl Gobblegut Battle Oh and some of you may be familiar with these two Throwback Galaxy Bowser's Lava Lair In my opinion this is even better than the original Galaxy's score, which I didn't even think was possible. Any Mario/game music fans? What do you think?
  14. I gotta say, that's the most refreshingly direct thing I've heard in mainstream Hollywood for a while! He literally said "Steven dropped the ball" regarding Indy IV. And he's right. As soon as I left the theater on premiere night, I knew there had to be an Indy V. The series deserves to be redeemed, and it's up to Harrison to play up the vigorous action hero (regardless of his age) this time, rather than blatantly signposting over and over again that -- YES, INDIANA JONES IS OLDER NOW.
  15. I take it we are excluding title/end credits pieces and tracks that were formed into concert arrangements on album? Trouble is, without having seen the majority of Williams scored films, many cues are hard to determine whether they were actually used fully and properly within the context of underscore, without already knowing so. I'd have to say Journey to the Island is up there, as is Aunt Marge's Waltz (as 'thieving' a cue as it may be), Becoming a Geisha, Jewish Town (Krakow Ghetto, Winter '41), Abandoned in the Woods, Out to Sea & The Shark Cage Fugue
  16. Ignore those snobs who bash Williams: in their arguments against his music, they proclaim to be so amazingly informed about classical/symphonic repertoire and yet ironically are generally wholly uninformed about Williams' music. If they actually listened to and understood the wide variety of music he has composed over the years, they wouldn't be so snappy.
  17. "Spielberg is next in theaters with Tintin"... is kind of wrong, worded like that.
  18. I didn't make that mistake with my Tintin list though! Although I'm sure I could have jumbled it up even more.
