  1. B&N Criterion Sale has started!! (up until July 29th) 50% off in Criterion BLurays. My purchases will be: Charade Badlands (although I haven't seen it but I love Malick) The lady Vanishes or On the Waterfront (If i can afford any of them)
  2. oh, did you see my post here? i watched it yesterday! http://www.jwfan.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=20559&p=915834 I guess it's not a film for everyone and I wouldn't suggest a blind buy, although I loved the film. (if you liked Legends of the Fall, I think you'll like this too) The quality of the picture is excellent!
  3. I already of course own the DVD anthology box which has the same extras (I think?). But anyway, I don't think I had seen them back then. I don't find the time. I want to watch so many films. The only extras I have watched on their entirety are those of the E.T. Bluray. And i think of the Indiana Jones DVD box set. There are a couple of new ones in the Bluray though.
  4. that! I will buy it nonetheless (i can also download english subtitles from the net and watch the blurays on the fly with them), but it's just that i'd prefer they would be already included. edit: ok, I just bought it along with the Braveheart 2 disc steelbook (which is one of my favourite films) (i was keeping the money for B&N Criterion sale ) Wow! look at that screenshot comparison: http://caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleiche/index.php?art=full&image=12&vergleich=braveheart&action=1&lossless=0#vergleich I LOVE Blu-rays! off topic mode on: I still have fond memories of Aliens (don't we have a nostalgia emoticon here?). i caught it in my childhood on a local TV station in my hometown from 2nd-3rd minute and on, and I watched it until the end. I didn't know what it was its title! I was very impressed by it! Then I saw Alien 3 at the cinema (I LOVED that too! I don't understand why people don't like it), and I think after that I saw the original Alien.
  5. yeah, I understand. It's just me! I just prefer the film versions better (of any score).
  6. because as I've said I was negative from the start, and rarely I will change my mind for something like this. And I always prefer the film versions in soundtracks. I don't like the "album-notion". as I wouldn't like eg. a concert arrangement of the last movement of Beethoven's 9th symphony. Anyway, I don't say they're bad, it's just that i rarely will listen to them (if not never) since we have the film versions now. i guess I'm something like the opposite of Thor?
  7. I'm afraid all releases (and the European ones) have only hearing impaired subtitltes. And in these films - that rely much on sound - it will be extremely annoying. (eg. [sound of alien approaching], [man screaming], [slimy sound of alien's saliva dripping] )
  8. Well, I loved the film, and when I got this cd I waited to hear the film versions, and when I heard that this was not the case I was dissapointed.. So, I was negative about them from the start. (I especially dislike the introduction to "Flying")
  9. Oh, ok. I hope someone knows because I'd like to buy this set.
  10. Bah, It's just a complete and chronological film version of the score different from the re-recordings on the OST. Are you interested in knowing more? Yeah, preferably something about the music itself. I guess I have to wait untill people get it untill we can discuss that. I didn't realize we did separate threads about the musical contents. Well, the film versions of the cues (i assume) are different than the rerecordings. I mean listening to the maint tiles alone, the music is different. So, I'll have to get this set to have a complete image of the music. (eg. I don't like very much the re-recordings/arrangements of the original E.T. album [although most people do], but i love the film versions which were released in the following cds) other than that, i would say that the music as I heard it in the original cd, is good. it's not something I'm crazy about, neither the style, but it shows that it is skillfully composed music, even for such a small group of instruments. I had seen the film some years ago, don't remember it much, but i remember that it was weird. i'm not a fan of this genre either, so my opinion wouldn't be impartial.
  11. I have to ask a favour Jason or anyone else that owns this set. Do you remember if the films have plain English subtitles too besides English for hearing impaired? (usually Bluray.com and the back covers have incomplete information)
  12. Alien Anthology 6 BDs, golden box deal of the day!! $19.99 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/Alien-Anthology-Blu-ray/ref=%26%2574%2561g%3d%2562l%2575r%2561y%252d050%252d20?SubscriptionId=AKIAIY4YSQJMFDJATNBA&tag=bluray-050-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B001AQO3QA&ASIN=B001AQO3QA&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER
  13. Well I thought this thread is for the particular release. I'm sure (?) there would be another thread that discusses the music in general. Anyway, in case anyone is interested I had made a 2 staves transcription of the Main titles theme (film version). If you try to play it at the piano, you must use the pedal in appropriate places, and also use your hands at will for easier playing. (meaning moving the chords on the right hand etc.)
  14. Thor nobody has it yet. We will probably have it in a month or so? I am not sure..
  15. I just watched "A River Runs through it". Wow! I had seen it again in my teens and I think I was a bit bored. Now I loved it! A simple nostalgic film. During the film i had the hunch that this is a real story, and indeed it was! The story of a writer and scholar, Norman Maclean. While I found Isham's Oscar nominated score charming - though discreet, I wondered what wonders would have Williams done with this film!
  16. Yeah, although I adore his romantic drama scores, it would be interesting to hear a score of his for a big Hollywood blockbuster movie.
  17. I know it's a long shot, but imagine that film being Diana!! I would be thrilled!! He was my first choice for this film. And still I don't see any composer credit in imdb, although we had heard the news about Rachel Portman.
  18. Looking forward to it! I love Korzeniowski's music and I wish we would be offered more Hollywood jobs from now on. I think I have said this multiple of times. This sounds to me like writing a substitute score for a film that its original score was rejected.
  19. I'm just listening to the Raiders! WOW!!!!
  20. Thelma & Louise (a couple of hours ago). It was a very good film! I liked it! (although I did know the ending from before. I had seen it years ago) More than 2 hours past so quickly. This is the scene that i didn't like at all due to the music! otherwise, yes, it was a fair film..
  21. it's like eg. listening to the Superman March with the fanfare, and someone - after the first statement of the fanfare - inserts it again from the beginning, and so you hear it in the piece twice! While it is originally written of playing once. Yes, i wasn't aware of it too when i had heard Heidi, but now that I listen to it, it bugs me..
  22. it's Theatre. Kraft Mystery Theater is a different series than Kraft Mystery Theatre from what I've understood. hehe.. it's confusing indeed. here's the series for which Williams wrote music: http://ctva.biz/US/Anthology/KraftMysteryTheatre.htm it says: (Another series titled Kraft Mystery Theater aired on NBC from during the Summer of 1958) and when you go to the page of that series: http://ctva.biz/US/Anthology/KraftTelevisionTheatre_NBC_12_%28Summer1958%29.htm it's again Kraft Mystery Theatre although it said otherwise, and then it says: Another series titled Kraft Mystery Theater aired on NBC from during Summers of 1961, 1962, & 1963) pointing to the first one!
  23. Or maybe one who wanted to sell it at double and triple price at ebay when it'd be sold out! Because there are those people - unfortunately - too.
  24. I agree! I'm looking forward for it to be released in Bluray. on a sidenote, I wish I had Born on the 4th of July in Bluray to watch tomorrow! I have it on DVD, but I can't watch a DVD when I know there is a BLuray out! I may watch "Star and Stripes forever" (a 1952 pseudo-biopic of Sousa) instead.
