  1. Yea. I think the mixers had a little to do with it. It was in the Ocean Centre, which is more oriented for sports events than orchestra. The non pops concerts take place at the Peabody, the auditorium here in Daytona. Some were also at my church--Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church--and some were at my college--Stetson University. I was out of town most of the time they were here so unfortunately I didn't get to see any of the concerts but the Pops one. I'm a huge John Williams and Jurassic Park fan, I think that may be why I picked up on some of the mistakes. I'm also a string player and I have perfect pitch so that accounts for things like Shindlers List. They still are one of the best orchestras in the world and I can see why. They had some ensamble issues as far as tempo would go, but they'd get right into it a measure latter. Miking was definately an issue. The harp was really loud lol. also the brass was too loud for the strings at times. But oh well. Still glad I went and will go again. THey said they had Tippen do the conducting because he was turning 80 this year. I've never been able to go to a pop's concert before so if he's conducted before, I wouldn't be too surprised. My stepfather also worked at the hotel that the LSO stayed in. THey left a lot of stuff lol. They got gift bags and they left most of their things like face creams and hand soaps and stuff. lol. One even left this porfolio of artwork from around Volusha county from students, made to commemorate the LSO comming to town. Since they didn't call for it back, my stepfather got to take his pick. I have enough hand cream to last me until they come back! lol
  2. That's what it said in the program.... I figured it was Jerry... but I just wrote what was in the program.
  3. so here we go... traffic was a bitch lol. We got there and waited for a million years to park. EW lol. So the concert was suppose to start at 7:30. We weren't in our seats until like 8:05... they were still introducing people --thank god. So, the concert started. They did the Fox Fanfare which then went into "Hoorah for Hollywood." A man spoke and then they played what's credited in the pamphlet as the "Star Wars Suite." It was just Darth Vader's theme. They then talked about their great respect for Gary Goldsmith and then did the Star Trek: The Motion Picture theme (TNG Theme as well). THey then did a surprisingly gorgous theme from "Out Of Africa." I've never seen the movie or anything but just hearing the lush music makes me want to. go John Barry. Then they did "Where Eagles Dare" bu Ron Goodwin. Then the theme from Jurassic Park. This one was a little odd. The opening horn soloist didn't quite hit the note the first time around. If you can remember the theme it goes B, F, C, octave B. Well, when he went to hit the octave B he hit the couple notes in between that sometimes Horns do. A cymbol crash was a beat off. Overall, the piece felt a little rushed but that was the guys interpretation. I have to say, overall, the percussion people had a little trouble keeping with the group though. It was a little interesting. It may simply have been a delay in their miking or whatever but they sounded late at times. It coudl also have been the groups new conductor. I really couldn't say. They then did "Prologue from Birth," and the "Waltz from Birth" by whom they said was a new commer to the cinema, Alexandre Desplat. I've never heard of him but it was interesting music. They then did the "Flying Theme from ET." It was great on the whole, a few problems where the group wasn't quite together but it was phenominal past that. The Interval was next. They started again with the "Rocky Suite No. 1." it was really kinda funny how they did it. Electric guitar and all. Fun. They did "My Heart Will Go On" next, talking about how in 1912, the LSO was suppose to be on the Titanic but because of a change in plans didn't make it on the maiden voyage. It was a really beautiful arrangement. I loved it. I heard people cried from it. They then did "Harry Potter Suite." It was the best piece which is understandable because the LSO is going home tommorow, they get a day off to "re-acclimate to the weather," and then the next day they begin recording for the next Harry Potter, with music by the man who did the next piece. They did "Overture to Much Ado About Nothing" by Patrick Doyle. I have to say, I can see how he was a good choice for the scoring of Harry Potter. He is able to use a lot of the techniques that John used in Harry but I think his score might sound a little too bright for Harry but we'll see. Then they did Schindler's List. It was gorgous. The soloist didn't do many of the embelishments but it was still really wonderful. Was a little flat on a high note but past that flawless. Again though, they did have some trouble between the soloist and the ensamble on tempo at first and especially during the ritards but on the whole, one of the best pieces. Lawrence of Arabia was next. Realy pretty piece. Then the announcer said he'd like to bring a special guest to the stage... none other than... The Pink Panther. A man in a pink panther suit, dawning a saxaphone walked around and up on stage, waving his extreamly long tail about over his head and flirting with the audience. It was fun. They then did the last piece on the schedule that evening... The Raiders March. Really wonderfully done. I loved it. The applause came next . Then there was an ancore. 007 Theme. Which did NOT utilize the electric guitar except the last note. I was a little dissapointed. Then they did applause again, and then said that they had to play another piece that was the pinacle of their carrer. that is was like "Queen not playing Bohemian Rhapsody. Or blah blah not doing blah blah. Or snoop doggy dog not doing...not doing.." the audience laughed. Then they introduced Tippin Davidson, the owner of the Orlando New Journal, who is a VIOLIST btw hehehehe. Went to Juliard. Gave his viola to Alvaro Gomez, the husband of Mrs. Kromavitch, the violin professor at my college. Alvaro also played in the pit with my in my high school performance of "On The Town," said he was so impressed by me that he gave me his card. Said if I needed any favors, to call him. Well, Tippin, who is the one who pretty much pays for the LSO to come and perform here in Daytona Beach Fl, every two years then came out and conducted "Theme from Star Wars" while storm troopers, Boba Fett, and Darth Vader walked around the floor level. It was fun. They then did two last pieces. The Star Spangled Banner with the spot light on the American Flag, and then God Save The Queen (My Country Tis of Thee), with the spot light on the Brittish Flag. It was nice. And then the evening was over. On the whole a wonderful concert. I'm glad I went.
  4. Hey everyone. I'm going to a concert tonight of the LSO here in Daytona Beach, FL. Tonight is the Hat's off to Hollywood or something. They're doing a ton of John Williams stuff and some other movie score tracks. It should be cool. Will let you know how it goes and what they play. Berns
  5. I'd have to agree. I think that James Horner has kinda burned out. I was really dissapointed when he frivolously used the same music fro A Beautiful Mind's opening as he used for Bicentenial Man's. I was really shocked. It's almost exactly the same. I love his older stuff like The Land Before Time, Willow, and a few of his newer ones like Titanic but past that, I don't listen to him or own anything much by him. His music sounds all the same. They almost always have a piano solo or some sort of piano part that sticks out above the orchestra. They also almost all have similar chord progessions. His music also has an almost celtic sound to it. It doesn't have much diversity eaither. Seriously. I was in a friends car listening to the XM radio. John Williams was on. I knew the track name, the movie, and what was happening in the scene. heh We went to Wal-Mart, as we left...a new piece was playing. We listened to it. I didn't recognize it but I said "I would say James Horner, but I havn't heard a piano yet." No sooner had I said that, but the piano started. I then said "Well, it doesn't have the harp in it." again, no sooner had I said that, but the harp started playing. We all laughed. I then said "Well, I guess it's James Horner but it's really good! I must not have seen this movie or heard the music before." We then played with the display and figured out how to see the track name and artist--my friend had just gotten XM. It was James Horner and The Perfect Storm, which is a score I was pleasantly surprised by. I thought it was really good. I think my favourite score by him is eaither Titanic or Deep Impact. I love those scores. But he has defoinately lost his touch. That's one thing I can say for John Williams, he changes. He doesn't get stuck in one sound. He changes from movie to movie. You can seriously put the soundtracks in order by listening to them and figureing out their changes because they really just grow from one to the next. Not something I can say for James Horner.
  6. what about Danny Elfman? As far as I'd heard, he had no formal training: never went to college for it or something. And Barbra Striesand. She can't read music. I guess the point is, you can do anything you want to if you want it bad enough. If you keep trying, you'll be able to do it one day. But you also have to remember that in nature, all things are possible. So, if you tell yourself you can't do it and write off any chance of ever being able to, then you have made that your fate. Whereas, if you tell yourself you can do it, even as just a hobby, then you will! You are limited only by what you perceive yourself to be limited by. True, music theory can be very important, but as I said, Danny Elfman--if I'm not mistaken, didn't go to college and learn it. And look where he is. He's done the scores for NUMEROUS movies and tv shows and even video games. I mean, where would Tim Burton or Jonny Depp be today without Danny Elfman! lol. If you want it, you can do it.
  7. sorry. Like I said, I'm a string player. It wasn't even until last year, my freshman in college that I ever played with a full orchestra because of how my HS worked. I call it horn because I knew it was a brass instrument, not because it was the "French Horn," which I'm now told is incorrect terminology and not to call it that. I guess if you say it's a trumpet it is. It is a firth actually (thought it was a third.) It's the lower note, or "D," to the higher note "A." maybe your right. But I don't understand...why is it that guys fault?
  8. Yea, you still weren'tm listening to the right part. The VERY beginging of Anakin vs. Obi-Wan. it's like...serisouly..2-3 seconds into it...not 10. Like I said, I know the difference between counterpoint, harmonies and such from simply wrong notes. I play the viola! That's all we get lol. But if you listen carefully, the horns at the the bgining, there's maybe at least 2 horns. the note and the harmony on. maybe an octave. I can't tell. I'm not talking about the theme here or it's harmony. and it seems like everytime that is re-stated it sounds a little funny or flat or something.
  9. no no... you're not listening to the same point I am... You're thinkiiing the theme. Before the theme is even stated in Anakin Vs. Obi-Wan the horns are playing that "Da-da-da-da-da-da--dadada-da-da ::cymbol crash:: da-da-da-da-da-da-dadada-da-da"...that is what I'm talking about... I know the difference between harmonies and something not right.
  10. If I were you, I would try sitting at a piano, and try listening to themes you like... maybe some start wars or Jurassic Park. Or something simplier. Try to play the theme. Don't be afraid to pause the music and figure it out. But try to play themes you know and like. From there, I would try to learn simple harmonies. Chrods TEND to consist of notes that are 3rd's apart, meaning if you start at the "C" key, it would be"C", "E" , and "G". Try playing around with Chords. There are minor chords, major chords and then a ton of others. I don't even know chords that well, but I compose music. What I do when I write is try sitting down at the piano and finding a few things... maybe a litle sound I like... like by playing around with some notes... I would then use that as a background. Maybe outlining the chord with a harp sound like playing something like say, A C E, A C E, A C E, A B D,...A C E, A C E , A C E, B D F. That right there is the harp opening to "Across the Stars." try playing around and making things called chord progressions. which is what that above kinda is. The cord "progresses" from one to another in a logical movement. meaning you arn't playing one cord and then playing another that's half way across the keyboard. It wouldn't sound good and wouldn't work too well probably. If you're serious about being a composer, it helps to have an instrument that you connet with. Personally, I learned playing the viola and singing, so when I'm composing, I eaither play around on my viola, or sing something in my head because those two instruments connect directly to my soul and don't need me to be like "Fuck, where's C?!" you know? there's no thought. Then I sit down at the piano, come up with chords... come up with counterpoint (the music going on behind the theme) and then I sit down at a writing program like Finale or Cakewalk and choose the instrments and put it in. Try reading one of those theory books slowly.Theory is hard if you don't have certain fundemantal grasps on music. Even if you do it can be hard. I have to study it in college at one of the toughest Theory programs in the state of Florida. I didn't do well at all--Not to say there weren't other factors involved such as 4 hurricanes, 2 deaths of people close to me and being sick because of stress... but still. Theory is not easy to learn. So take your time. I guess that's really all I can say... I don't know what else to say. I hope this helps.
  11. I personally thought The Mummy 2 was an excellent sequal. I can assure you though, there will not be an ET 2. There's a contract that prohibits it that Steven put into effect for the express purpose not to ruin ET like so many other movies are by their sequals.
  12. it's hard to say. It may just be my head playing tricks on me. Sometimes I hear it and cringe... and others I don't. I never heard it until a friend of mine asked me if I'd noticed that the horns where, as he put it "perpetually under the pitch." He's a horn played and I'm not. I'm a string player so I naturally listen for the strings. Ever since he said that I've listened more closely to the horns and it may simply be my mind playing tricks on me--hence me wondering if anyone else had heard it. I'm listening to Battle of the Heroes and Anakin vs. Obi-Wan again to see if maybe I was just hearing things. The very begining of Anakin Vs. Obi-Wan you have the horns playing those sticatto chors over and over. The middle horn does something. I wanna say losses the pitch a little. Then again at 30 seconds something doesn't sound right. and a few times after that too. i dunno, I'll have to ask my friend to listen to it again and point out what and when he hears stuff. Just curious if anyone else felt something wasn't right or if it's my ears playing tricks on me.
  13. Is it just me, or is the horn section having intonation problems? Especially in Obiwan vs. Anakin. There are parts where the horns do that short, repeated horn cord. There are times where I just cringe. Something isn't right and I'm thinking one of the horns was flat. And there are othe rmoments where I feel it to. Anyone one else notice this?
  14. cool new unreleased music... then that's fine lol
  15. If you join Real Jukebox or something like that, you get 50 free downlods the first month. Well, I looked, and downloaded all the JW I coudl get. All they had where the 1 and 2nd seasons of JW music to Lost in Space and like a track I wanna say Time Tinnel as well, and the first track from Land of the Giants which I'm now waiting for in the mail--I baught the full one. And I baught the 3'd season's score to Lost in Space by JW from amazon.
  16. Teddy's theme from AI never made it on the CD, unless you get the 2 disk one for the awards thing that just left my mind.
  17. the original recording sounds fine. I have it. No real reason to re-record. Why no re-release?
  18. I had to say this on another forum too: Steven S. made a contract with Universal that no sequal to ET could or would ever be made. Another thing, that is not the characters name! It is just Gertie. There is no last name listed to my knowledge. Also, I'm sure this is someone trying to get public eyes back on steven whom many say has "unfortunately left feel good movies behind." The idea of him goig back now to that genre and making one is absurd. there. I can tell you with 100% accuracy this isn't real.
  19. I did. I used music from the original soundtracks when neccesary and stuff that was on the Episode 3 cd itself so the only music that has sound effects are like ... 3-4t tracks...
  20. I ripped quite a little suff form the dvd. In the end credits, the only sound effects that I have is a brif moment when you have the ship fly by when it arrives at alderan. The rest of the finale and end credits music is on the cd, all you have to do is cut out about 10 minuets lol ... it cuts from the end of Battle of the Heros' to the timpani roll for the end credits music. did someone already send you it? because if not I could send you mine if you wan it
  21. I was upset about it but my friend had a dvd copy of episode 3 so I used it to rip some of the clearner cues such as that timpani. makes a little bit happy lol. I havn't gotten aroud to looping the timapni though throughout most of the begining.
  22. 2) I wondered that myself. If you'll notie, there are actually like 4-5 cues. My feeling personally is that he was trying to give Lucas some choices of what to play at the end Credits alsot that he probably wanted to use themes from episode 4. The movie therefore has thems from every movie. It has attack sequences from Episode 1 and one of the Council meetings has the council meeting track fro epiosde 1 along with anakins theme. The part with the invisable hand going down into the atmosphere has tracks from Episode 2 not to mention the love theme. It is Episode 3. Episode 4 themes such as Leia's and the force theme. And the Throne Room Episode 5's Darth Vader's theme and Episode 6's yodas and the end of the end credits. At leaste that's what I think... or you could go with what he said.
  23. ummm... I'm ... not complaining??? I'm just noticing that this is a John Williams Fan Network... and that it keeps tabs on what music he uses in his scores. I thoguht that perhaps my efforts could be helpful to someone here. And I would like to have a complete soundtrack, but notice how Episode II has yet to relase one. How old is that movie? I'm wondering how long we'll have to wait for Episode III... So being the constructive person I am, I use my abilities to make as complete a soundtrack as I can make. I love John Williams. I enjoy listening to his scores. I'm sorry if I offended anyone...
  24. lol. My friend happened to have it so I thoguht I woudl at least give it a try before I give it back to him. And it seemed that a lot of the cues I liked form Epsode III weren't on the cd so that's also why I did this. And because I enjpy doing this. I did it with Jurassic Park as well. I started with AI but then got the 2 disk promo so I didn't really need to anymore. Between this and maybe TLW now and I only have the Star Wars for a little while so.
  25. OK, I'm a little crazy. I wish I could say I had every ounch of music from Star Wars. I don't, but I've got most of it. If there is one thing that tee's me off the most, it's that Episode II and III don't have complete soundtracks! So, still in the Episode III mood, I decided to attempt to make a full soundtrack. I have a dvd copy of the movie and I'm using that to figure out what musical cues I already have and what ones I don't. It's extreamly interesting and the track listing on this site works wonders. I just was wondering if I'm the only one doing this because I'm realizing today exactly how MUCH music from it is actually...well, not. There are so far... 14 tracks that I've made and I'm only to the battle on Kashyyk. So far, 5 of them are primarily stuff from Episode II and I. It's just interesting. I dunno how much help it'll be but if someone form this site--ie someone who runs it, would like to know exactly what these tracks and such are, I can give them that information. It's a lot easier than listening to a scene over and over and over trying to figure out if you've heard the music before or just watched the scene to many times, then go searching through your Star Wars soundtracks to find it and then edit it and so on... heh. Just wondering..
