  1. Awesome, thanks! Will update when I am able. Any possibility of posting/sending artwork for the various Olympic promos? I knew about JP and Schindler (the MCA5P ones) but wasn't sure if they were promos or released singles. Do you have images for these? I also have the other JP single (MCD 30797) but again wasn't sure it was a promo.
  2. Jay, since you appear to be familiar with these titles, is The Book Thief in a cardboard sleeve or jewel case? As I said in my reply to you above, I'll edit it once I have more feedback.
  3. Great stuff! Looking forward to it. I may consider adding images once the list is compiled. Thanks! Completely slipped my mind about the brief 3 second "orchestral blowout" as someone called it back then.
  4. In your opinion. I like owning the ones that have the same contents as the OSTs as I'm a collector and want to own as many FYCs and promos as possible. I also own many imports that simply have different cover art from the US versions (for example, Seven Years in Tibet JP, Sayuri JP, Angela's Ashes DE and JP). And what about the radio edits? Those aren't on the OSTs either.
  5. No order, I first listed the ones I own, and then the rest as I researched them / managed to remember. Depending on the response, I'll recompile everything in alphabetical order with more detail.
  6. Thanks. Any more of the older ones I'm missing?
  7. Please provide info and I'll include (assume you are referring to the LP, was that a promo or a boot?)
  8. Has anyone attempted to compile a list of all the FYC and Promo CDs featuring JW's scores? 9. Well I must be honest, if it weren't for Williams' dense, busy scoring or so-called showboating, grand-standing, etc. I would probably never have become interested in film music (see Star Wars, Superman, Close Encounters, Empire, Raiders, E.T., Jedi, Temple of Doom and the list goes on). If some of his music is, as some critics put it, pushy and insistent, then I'm a sucker for pushy, insistent music (War Horse included). All of the scores cited as candidates for most over-scored are among my favorites in Williams' oeuvre. I do however also love his more low-key efforts, such as Stanley and Iris and The Accidental Tourist. In fact, I can't think of a single Williams composition that I dislike (Heartbeeps included), and if Williams were to start composing radio jingles and cereal ads I'd most likely lap that up too. But then my alias says it all...
  10. To get back to the OP's question, for me it's the original Arista album of CE3K. My first exposure to this score was by way of Charles Gerhardt's magnificent suite of the last reel(s) music, and it became my go-to rendition right up to the release of the expanded set in 1998. There's a ton of fine music missing from the original album, and I really missed the military march apart from the brief quote in one of the album cues. I also hate the edits in the finale, after the beatiful denoument is about to reach its peak, the music jarringly cuts away to repeat part of the travelling music from earlier in the album.
  11. Yes, but it would be much cooler if it was. The ANH helmet looks much more sinister than the ROTS one. And why would Vader go from a perfectly polished, black symmetrical helmet to an asymmetrical, matte black and grey one with red lenses? And then back to a polished black one for ESB/ROTJ? Also, the chin vent goes from wide (ROTS) to narrow (ANH) and back to wide (ESB/ROTJ). This site goes into much detail with photos, also about the costume changes: http://fd.noneinc.com/secrethistoryofstarwarscom/secrethistoryofstarwars.com/visualdevelopmentofdarthvader.html "Lucas had to also make a decision on how to visually portray the Vader suit. Rather than making a choice with chronological consistency in mind, in other words going with the suit shown in Star Wars, Anakin was instead given the cyborg-emphasized design of the later two sequels."
  12. See this link for details of the differences between ROTS and ANH Vader helmets: http://www.starwarshelmets.com/RotS2ANHvader_comp.htm They should have made ROTS one match ANH for continuity. Then again continuity did not seem high on GL's priority list with the prequels....
  13. Just wanted to mention that the Varese/Sarabande and Silva Screen covers of themes from these three scores are fantastic. Been listening to them lately as I revisit albums I haven't played for many years. The Joel McNeely suite from Towering Inferno is really terrific.
  14. Ok, I stand corrected, but: Music files bought on the Site are reserved for Customers residing in the following territories: France, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Austria and Ireland (hereinafter referred to as the "Territory"), who have a bank card issued by a banking institution established in the Territory. (from Qobuz Ts & Cs) So I'm still out of luck, being from Africa... Also, bizarrely, it's available on the French site but not the UK one. What gives? I just love that modern delivery of music via the internet is effectively one step sideways and three steps back (yes it's convenient, but its also limited in catalogue, territorial availability and sometimes quality (lossy). Bring back the '90s! Guess I'll just listen to the extra tracks on the dvd (complete with dino roars, screams, thunderclaps, etc). Yay!
  15. Well, nearly 3 years later and this still hasn't been released outside the US for download. So the only way for me to obtain this legally is to relocate to the US? Or hope that Intrada gets to release it on a physical CD someday...
  16. Is it legal to listen to music on Youtube if not posted by the licence holder (Warner in this case)? Just wondering, not trying to create a stir.
  17. Among the music restored for the '97 SE, I was particularly pleased they restored the original scored music for the shot where Captain Needa's shuttle approaches Vader's ship. I always much preferred it to the tracked Imperial March music used in the old theatrical cut.
  18. So nearly a month later and still no sign of any release outside the US...ain't the download revolution great folks!
  19. Anyone in the know care to drop a few titbits? Hoping for some Universal expansions myself (physical media preferably)...
  20. Believe me, if I could buy it in my country, I would in a heartbeep
  21. The sound is NOT shitty! Apple used extremely high quality encoding here, it doesn't sound any different from an actual CD on my nice headphones. And yest he whole CD was remastered and it sounds great!! That's the beginning of Hungry Raptor The first part of your statement is wrong, the second part of your statement is right. I had NO idea this was coming! You couldn't be more wrong. Everything in the iTunes Store is encoded by Apple themselves from lossless files sent to them by the studio releasing the product. There is no DRM at all in the files, and they sound great! Hi Jason, so we aren't getting any more true expansions? We are? Not sure I understand your reply. You seemed to imply in the La-La Land The Fury thread that more Williams expansions were forthcoming hope so Regarding the watermarking, this is what I read (no idea of its accuracy, just wondering...): http://www.mattmontag.com/music/universals-audible-watermark Seems to apply to lossless files and iTunes as well.
  22. Jason, can we assume that this release is one of the true expansions mentioned above, you seemed to be as surprised as the rest of us regarding this one? As I'm not able to access the US iTunes store, I cannot listen to any samples, any chance of some downloadable samples on the site (legally, of course)? Doesn't Universal Music put audible watermarks on their digital files, I've read elsewhere that these degrade the sound quality quite noticeably? I'm really upset about not being able to get this due to the US only nature of the release, one can only hope that Intrada or some other label will be able to twist Universal's arm to release a physical CD at some point...
