  1. Window to the Past is that way for me. I get the chills and then press pause, and then back up and play that section over again. Now that I think of it, I think I'm going to play PoA again right now
  2. About 3 a week, that's all I seem to be able to get from Netflix.
  3. It's John Williams the film composer then. Sorry, I don't have any knowledge as to what it's worth... maybe someone else here will know more on this topic. Perhaps try searching completed listings on eBay?
  4. Does it look like the one on this page? http://www.mahawa.jw-music.net/early/early_index.htm
  5. I chose number three as well, only because I don't really have the time/energy/disposable income to spend hunting for every single Williams release. I would if I could, but I can't, so why try, heh.
  6. Black Narcissus is one of my favorites. Absolutely gorgeous cinematography, and a rather chilling story.
  7. Yeah, beautiful track, but the hiss is so loud it's distracting. It doesn't help that I listen through headphones. I'm glad I'm not the only one to be bothered by this.
  8. It was posted here: http://jwfan.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&f...ewtopic&t=10352 I thought the clip was cute, although it sort of lost its momentum a third of the way through.
  9. Wow, Jack, that sounds awesome! And yes, I think Williams would be somewhat disturbed if he ever visited this board, hah. But it's nice to know that he might be at least aware of its existence.
  10. I was indifferent at first, but it works very well within the broadcast. Count me as a "yes".
  11. Yep... Awww, wasn't that nice of him... So, who's going to write to Williams for us? Do we even have any indication that Williams knows about this place?
  12. That's just what it's like at Hollywood Bowl concerts. It's standard practice at the Bowl to come hours early before a concert to picnic, and the atmosphere is relaxed and informal. The light sabers have also become somewhat of a tradition specifically for the Williams concerts.
  13. Here's an LA Times interview with JW about his new football theme. Williams says he isn't a "games-goer", heh. The article says that he spent a month writing the theme, and recorded it in June. http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-adande...1,993360.column
  14. ^Thanks for the Memoirs upload! The "plastic cup dropping" sound really is part of the Hollywood Bowl experience, isn't it? haha
  15. Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
  16. Heh, that just arrived from Netflix a few minutes ago. I'll have to watch it tonight. Lawrence of Arabia has always been one of my favorite films, certainly my favorite "epic". Marvelous Maurice Jarre score, too.
  17. I haven't heard the Memoirs full suite, so I can't comment on any similarities. But the piece performed at the Hollywood Bowl was simply an arrangement of Sayuri's Theme, with prominent oboe and flute parts and no cello solo. I felt it was somewhat lackluster (of course, perhaps I had too high of expectations - I was most anxiously looking forward to hearing music from Memoirs.)
  18. Monty Python and the Holy Grail Raiders of the Lost Ark is a close second, Amadeus in third.
  19. Just got back from the Saturday concert- same program as Friday, but the order of the encore pieces was rearranged (Harry's Wondrous World - Yoda's Theme - Imperial March - The Mission). I must say that I had a lot more fun sitting in the cheaper seats. People were going absolutely nuts in my section, especially during the Imperial March. Our entire row was swaying to the beat. Loved it!! Bah, I wish there was another concert tomorrow night. I can't wait another year! (I don't have photos or video- hopefully one of those camcorder people in front is a JWFan member!)
  20. I agree that he could do more "branching out" every once in a while, but he knows that most people go to his concerts to hear the "hits" (heck, I'm definitely thrilled to hear them!) People bring light sabers to his Hollywood Bowl concerts, so he basically has to play the Star Wars main title, etc. He likes to please the audience, and the crowd goes wild when they hear his familiar themes, and they lull off when something "different" is being played. Sad, but true. (yesterday while Memoirs was playing, the lady in front of me kept saying, "What is this? What is this? Is this Jaws?? This must be Jaws." I politely corrected her, haha)
  21. Just got home from the first concert. Williams brought out his "greatest hits"- the crowd was definitely loving it. Yes, I can die happy now that I've heard Superman in concert. Here were the Williams pieces performed: Flight from Neverland Jurassic Park suite Memoirs of a Geisha suite (mostly Sayuri's theme, no soloists. I was hoping for the suite described in the Tanglewood review) Fiddler on the Roof suite (Bing Wang as soloist was astounding. She received some of the loudest cheers of the night) Love theme from Superman Superman march Jaws Star Wars main theme The Raiders March Flying Theme from E.T. Encores Imperial March Yoda's Theme Harry's Wondrous World The Mission Can't wait to go again tomorrow night
  22. The US DVD also has "GOLDEN GLOBE WINNER BEST SCORE, JOHN WILLIAMS" in big yellow letters on the cover. I was happy to see that.
