  1. War Horse is a great soundtrack, but the movie is a terribly underestimated masterpiece!!! It's the second part of a trilogy: Whereas Tarantino has to finish his "Rewritten History"-trilogy (Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained, ???), Spielberg has to finish his "Rethough War"-trilogy (Empire of the Sun, War Horse, ???) - war shown from a very abnormal and nicely new perspective!
  2. There's really someone who voted for Rambo: First Blood Part II?
  3. That could or should have been the last comment of this thread. Ridley Scott's two movies of the "Alien"-franchise represent his directorial regression of character drawing which started being a real problem in his movies since "Body of Lies". The next film IS going the be deep... shit.
  4. Well, that's clear and the film knows it and makes fun of it.
  5. Basically the same like Jaws and Jaws 2, but the movies have not such a big range of quality. I like the first film more, because it is not that violent and it has a certain charme that is not so present in the second film. A few moving dialogues from the first film are also copied for the sequel and just sound cheesy. Both Home Alone scores are not among my favorites, but the second one is substantially based on the first score, so I prefer the latter.
  6. Though they are entertainment films, their characters show individual reactions in a very detailed way. It's the way they speak, behave and act which is never following any cliché, cause Spielberg has enough courage to show elements that many viewers would consider unrealistic although they're just absurd enough to be realistic. Okay, I don't expect you to understand that.
  7. Unlike Jurassic Park and The Lost World those two scores and movies are more similar. But which score and which movie do you like more? IMO Jaws 2 has a musically more complex and thrilling score, but here it is close. The second movie, however, is far inferior.
  8. No. The Godfather is also worse than The Godfather Part II, but it does not imply that it's bad.
  9. Spielberg NEVER fails to create credible characters. And The Lost World is fresh with its protagonist that has changed from a relaxed, joking scientist to a pessimistic cynic. Furthermore the overall mood of the sequel has changed like the music. It's not just a sequel without any new ideas, but it seems to be heavily cut down from its original version. Especially the second half suffers from its lack of dialogue and one action scene is chased by the next action scene. The city rampage lasts less than 20 minutes and makes an incredibly stocky impression. However, the trailer sequence excels for gradually built-up tension and does not feel abbreviated like many scenes of hollywood blockbusters nowadays. Whereas JP covered the topic "man vs. nature", TLW was supposed to cover "infant and parents", but that aspect is mainly lost in the finished film. So - claiming that TLW is MUCH worse than JP is simply "sequels-are-always-worse"-talk. It's inferior because - frankly it's really kind of a mess, but it's not that bad!
  10. Although the full trailer sequence exceeds everything from JP, technically and dramaturgically.
  11. From "On the Glass" to the end, there are no 30 seconds without music. Spielberg knew the movie would lose the power of silence and justifiedly dropped a lot of the score. But all the replacements are sometimes annoying. I would love to see the original cut!
  12. No, he said something of "Goldsmith's Big Four". And by the way, the big four of composers would be Williams, Goldsmith, Herrmann and Morricone.
  13. Yes please! By the way: On the Goldsmith website someone talked about his "Big Four". Any idea what that is supposed to be?
  14. I always knew the OST doesn't represent TLW's full potential, but I was still suprised when I listened to the complete score for the first time. There will be more surprises like this. Whether it's a Williams classic or an experimental score has nothing to do with quality, has it?
  15. Like the Minority Report vs. A.I. poll this one is very predictable. The Lost World was my favorite movie for a long time, but after several years I was able to rate it in a more objective way and so I must admit that it has much more flaws than its predecessor, escpecially the second half. Maybe an extended cut could change my mind. Which score you like more is totally a matter of taste, I think. They are both perfect! But me personally, I love Williams' more experimental works and The Lost World is on top of those!
  16. There's too much Goldsmith stuff that is better. Best example is Hoosiers.
  17. To replace the finale of Ceiling Tiles was the worst of Spielberg's musical decisions. That last part is so awesome and keeps the tension until the end! Looking forward to it!
  18. And why does Jason confirm that there are expansions coming soon?
  19. I think the first one is the least probable and the second one is the most probable of all of those suggestions!
