Yeah, it says “editorially created film version.” To be honest, it is obvious this was editorially created; it does not flow well, especially in contrast to how the music was composed and conducted by the Maestro. It just sounds weird, where as how it was composed and conducted is just perfect. I have to ask. Why include this if it was editorially created? The sound quality in the edited sections is evidently different from the rest. It’s not like Tranquilizer Dart and End Credits (Film Version).
The edits are so weirdly specific and buried under sound effects that it's very hard to recreate it properly and there's a synth chord that loops throughout the latter part that either was not previously released or was not previously released independent from the rest of the orchestra, making it impossible to properly recreate without ripping it.

Am I crazy or was the 2016 edition more reverby?
No, this is definitely drier.
Listening to the alternates is so wild, the percussion is so much milder that it's almost like getting an orchestra only version of The Raptors Appear and Rescuing Sarah. Particularly in The Raptors Appear, where at one point the timpani is muted entirely for more than a minute.

and is corporate choppers a little more separate from the previous cue or are they still mixed together?
As far as I can tell, it's exactly the same.

These have not started shipping out yet right?
Not until tomorrow at the earliest.

I'm very excited for this. There hasn't been a release in a while that has me this psyched.

I'm not paying for Audition, the production company I work for does. Besides, I've been using Audition ever since it was called Cool Edit back in the late 90's. I ain't downgrading to Audacity. Also, I don't think Audacity has a Match Loudness function that remixs a piece of audio to a specific LUFS level.
A subscription to adobe is just worth it in general.

You're asking a guy who hosts a film score podcast how he got a film score CD early?
Or are you asking about the software he used to compare them?
I don't know about his podcast. What's it called?
But also the software, yeah.

Thankfully it wasn't done by Varése Sarabande.
Varese does alright every now and then. The scream box set was really good.

Even if the edited version was worth creating that sounds like a real pain.
I just wanted to get some practice editing music in Logic Pro and while I'm a better editor for having done it, at what cost?

That track is actually why I was asking. I remade all the album tracks and even the 20th anniversary album tracks for the first Jurassic Park, but the microedited version of Rescuing Sarah is one track where I will absolutely draw the line! I just wasn't sure if people felt the cue combos on this OST held up as something worth revisiting once in a while.
I recreated that edit myself with the box set release and found that compared to the original album there is a massive increase in volume between 2:12 and 3:18 (the location of the microedit). Putting it together took it from about -5db to almost peaking within one beat.
Needless to say, I never finished the project and promptly deleted the project data.

I haven't heard the OST since 2016, but I'm curious which album edits are you guys going to recreate for your personal playlists (if any)?
I've always been one to edit the OST into the individual cues, rather than the other way around.

The bongos and bass drum are so prominent in the film version of Rescuing Sarah, how will the alternate begin when the bongos are so low in the mix?

Now THIS is what I'm talking about! Wow! It really is messing with my brain to hear this track like that haha
Very cool!
It sounds like a mockup. I don't understand.
