What JP track would you rather like to hear in a JW concert?
Fabulin replied to GerateWohl's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Why Cleveland? I agree they aren't what they used to be, but they still remain peerlessly precise and synchronized (only Concertgebouw seems to be on that level afaik), and suffer mostly from years of uninspired leadership and lack of record presence. What distinguishes Chicago or NY? Btw. agree about LA Phil, absolutely. Not just American, but world top 5 in my book. -

At this point, the biggest barrier to the performance of John Williams's music is not the audience, musicians, or even orchestra managements, but John Williams himself. Those several-minutes-long suites and themes hardly do his work due. Conductors, especially young ones, would love to perform tracks from the films as written and arrange unique presentations, but they will only be able to do so after the composer departs to Valhalla, provided his estate does not turn out to be one of those irrationally protective ones. -
What do we know about JW's new main titles for The Phantom Menace?
Fabulin replied to artguy360's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
I get a feeling that the slightly strained trumpet leap in the melody was supposed to be synched with Anakin's pod visually passing Sebulba's. Unbelievable that Lucas decided to cut such wonderful moment, most exciting brass and string stabs (vide the trench run) and then a fanfare of a major theme, from a pivotal point for the main character of the prequels. -
Tell me you are American without telling me you are American

whatever it is, sounds quite good to my ears composition-wise

and it is quite quiet in the mix!

Beans, bacon, Whiskey, and lard -
It sounds a bit like music contracting back to where it came from, reminding the audience of its human (and pianistic) origin. Like the end of a home recital.

He certainly did accompany his parents in Hollywood as a child, because there is that anecdote about him playing with Shirley Temple on the studio lot (I think in 1940) 'his first assignment'. Maybe they stayed there for some time, moved back to NY, and then back again?

Knowing Williams, there must be enough time for a theme, a contrasting theme, and at least a single restatement of both. Before the restatement, there is likely to be a bridge of some kind. I doubt it is less that 2 minutes long, although the hell I know, I thought he wrote the Anthony Daniels march

He tried to tap him to either give him something or have it signed. In either case, tasteless behaviour. -

Have we forgotten how business-savvy the last JW-VPO-DG collaboration was? The "vinyl-only" idea is just ridiculous! -

There were so many recordings floating around after the 2020 concerts, but this time I can't find a single one. Was Heinz Fischer absent? -

I have to admit that I really don't care what Obi Kenobi does in this miniseries. He may well spend an episode in a bar with some Death Sticks and a bunch of alien dancers, he may go fishing, or he may do a comedy routine in the style of Monty Python. Ewan McGregor in Kenobi clothes + music by John Williams = Star Wars to me. -
