There's definitely "Keeper of the Grail" in there, too -

Ah, I don't think it's quite that dire. True, it's probably not comparable to what Williams did in the 80s-90s (KotCS wasn't either imo, by the way), but I still consider it satisfactory as an Indy score overall. Certainly better than 95 % of other current scores for similar movies. -

Well, I was wondering how Williams scored the discovery of the Spear of Longinus, and it happens to be music for the false grail from Last Crusade. Quite appropriate, I think :-) -
I just went to see the movie, and lucky me! There was a super loud beach party at the public swimming pool next to the theater, plus, the sound volume of the movie was low. The experience was near-ruined for me especially during the quieter moments because of all the bawling and boom-boom-boom noise. Anyway, rant out of the way, I really liked the movie, and I thought the climax was handled quite well (I had feared much worse). There could have been a lot more tomb and cave exploring, ancient riddles or booby traps for my taste, but the action was good. I did notice many interesting snippets of music not on the album; funny enough, once again the climax moments of finding and using the MacGuffin are not released, like so often before. Here it's not as regrettable as in Last Crusade, though.

They are quite different, and actually get weirder and weirder. One has to get used to that, and adjust expectations.

As Villeneuve has more than hinted at himself some time ago, if I remember correctly. Sorry, didn't notice you basically just said the same

I've listened to the album several times now, and I must say I like it even more now. I rarely manage to listen to complete albums, let alone repeatedly, but Williams does not disappoint. Even what I presume is Archimedes' theme really grew on me, despite it being rather understated for a MacGuffin concept. My personal highlights are not the action pieces (great as they mostly are), however, but 0:11 - 0:45 in "Archimedes' Tomb" and, to a lesser extent, 0:14 - 0:50 in "The Grafikos"; I just love these myterious, suspenseful discovery cues Williams writes. Somehow none of the composers of similar movies (Tomb Raider, Uncharted, Jungle Cruise etc.) quite managed to meet my taste so far. I do hope there's a little more of this in the actual movie.

Geez, this is a trailer I really wish I could "unsee"; one huge spoiler (visually for me; I read the book many times) from beginning to end

I bought the album at midnight and listened to it till 2 am. Very happy overall :-). I like the score much better than KotCS already (even though the album situation is indeed frustrating). Sure, the theme(s) for the MacGuffin concept (at least I think that's what they must be) at the end of "Prologue" are no match for the grail or ark themes, but the overall tone is much closer to what I consider the Indy sound than KotCS. I especially love "Archimedes' Tomb", "Grafikos", "Water Ballet", and "Tuk Tuk...". Now can't wait to see the movie this weekend.

Well, I always enjoy reading it ;-)

Interesting; have to check this when I get home. But I think you forgot the Harkonnen screech (for a lack of better words), heard all the time when Rabban is on screen

For Leto at least it's even worse in the novel: I believe in the few days he actually is on Arrakis he never actually sleeps, taking stimulants to stay awake. He even has to leave the banquet early.

Seriously? I found absolutely nothing to like there. Do I need to give it another listen? Are there any hidden highlights?
-
No, no no, no, yes

Yeah, the other two albums I (mostly) like a lot, too. Have fun!

Oh wow, this was... disappointing, to say the least. It's really just a few extremely slowed down motifs... or basically nothing. "The attack" is particularly ludicrous. No action at all, just some background noise, sounding the same for endless minutes. I skipped whole minutes, and it still sounded the same. Fortunately I streamed this first. I am not buying this.

It's referred to as the sea wall, I believe. Yeah, liked that scene.. the movie, too, though it's not something I need to watch often. Dune, however, I already watched twice, and am looking forward to the 4k UHD
-
It's even available on Amazon.de... The last two albums were both released there a day late, I think. I'm curious what the music is like... will know in an hour

Of sorts. It's more an idea, or an identity, I would say ;-) Only really noticed that the second time I watched the movie
