  1. Great discussion, guys. Really interesting thoughts on the whole Jacob/Christian/Richard/etc connections. Christian's existense as an actual corporeal form is certainly questionable; on one hand, he's carrying baby Aaron, holding lanterns, etc, while other times he appears in seemingly impossible places like the freighter and Jack's hospital in Season 4 (unless that was just Jack going nutty). Although, teleportation of some kind seems to play a part on the Island, as seen with Harper appearing to Juliet and Jack, so that could be what's going on if he's not just an apparition. As far as Jacob is concerned, I like the thought of killing him actually meaning setting him free. Another thought: could Jacob be someone we already know, possibly existing as he has for decades through the use of time travel? Maybe during Locke's vision quest he learned the truth and has to kill Jacob to prevent something from happening in the future. Although at this point I don't even know what I mean when I say the future. In this last episode I actually kinda loved Kate...I think she spoke for the audience with her disbelief that Jack would erase their entire time together. "It was not all misery"....broke my heart!
  2. Finally, someone else! I think it's a great episode for sure, and the phone call at the end between Desmond and Penny is certainly one of the show's most emotional moments, but it's not one of my top picks overall.
  3. Thanks - "The Apple" is the most mysterious of all Dharma stations.
  4. Where did that term originally come from? City sidewalks cracking from all the people lined up to see big summer movies?
  5. For casual dress, it's typically a dark long-sleeved shirt, often a turtleneck, accented by khaki slacks. Yep, I went there. Zing!
  6. Awesomely amazing: 1.) Raiders of the Lost Ark 2.) Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom Damn good: 3.) Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone 4.) Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban 5.) Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade 6.) Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace Decent: 7.) Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull 8.) Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Meh: 9.) Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (Sorry John C.!! Haven't given it enough listens yet ) 10.)Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones
  7. It's actually fleshed out nicely with a full orchestra and extended variations. There's a decent sounding non-chorus version out there from a concert, I believe.
  8. Hmm... 1.) Slave Children's Crusade 2.) Hedwig's Theme 3.) Fawkes the Phoenix 4.) Double Trouble 5.) Raiders March 6.) Duel of the Fates 7.) Scherzo for Motorcycle and Orchestra 8.) Across the Stars 9.) The Adventures of Mutt 10.) Battle of the Heroes "Slave Children" is a fantastically arranged medley of several themes from ToD, with a driving force that's both menacing and heroic. This is a recent favorite for me; I listened to it passively for years before realizing its greatness. Most of this list I find ranges from pretty good to outstanding, with the exception of "Battle of the Heroes." Still not a big fan of that one.
  9. One of his best, for sure. It always reminded me a tad of Leia's theme, but I wouldn't call it derivative in any way.
  10. Talk about being inspired...the fact that Williams wrote that amazing piece for such a low-key trailer makes it that much more impressive.
  11. Well I am, and I think it's great too. Speaking of which, did anyone else notice the theme for Daniel and Charlotte? It first caught my attention in the earlier episodes (like "Jughead," and maybe "This Place is Death"), and then it played again in the last episode when Daniel was talking to little Charlotte, making me pretty certain it represents their relationship. Also, the Hawking theme got some nice renditions in "The Variable."
  12. There's also the sound created by (if I remember right) a rubber ball being rubbed along the strings of a piano, which is used quite a lot for creepy moments.
  13. Let's just hope that, tomorrow night, someone doesn't have so much teleprompter text to read that it cuts into Lost time!
  14. Apparently I should stay home from work tomorrow and listen to A.I.
  15. I kinda wish Hook wasn't included, just because there are so many other worthy scores I'd like to give credit to. Far and Away, Sabrina, Amisted, and Angela's Ashes are particular favorites.
  16. Yeah, it'd be SpaceCamp for me too...Monsignor is a close second though. I wouldn't say there's a bad score in the bunch, though Always tends to drag terribly for me. I guess the horn solos redeem it somewhat.
  17. Yup, this latest episode was definitely one of the best of the season. It was almost epic, in a way, with the confrontation between the two competing companies. And I loved Michael showing some serious bargaining power....it's those rare moments when he displays an unexpected prowess or competence that make his character ultimately more endearing then annoying. I really enjoyed this recent plot of the off-shoot paper company, so I hope that continues as things get back to normal.
  18. Pretty good Q&A with Damon and Carlton here. Highlights:
  19. In that case, you probably shouldn't rush out and listen to Blood Diamond...same year, same chords.
  20. Oh, but it works so well. I love it because it's not pumped up with synth horns and techno beats like usual, but rather used gently and straightforward, often with a flowing counterpoint that makes it incredibly moving and uplifting. I get that it's not the most original theme, but for me it really works in this case. Anyhow, it'd be a tough choice between Signs, The Village, and Lady in the Water. I think I'll go with the last, though.
  21. I agree that the two opening episodes were among the worst (or more like "least great") of the season. I had this thought too - it made me remember the way the key around Jack's neck rose toward the magnetic wall when he entered the hatch for the first time. That could be a force strong enough to rip a filling out of someone's mouth through his forehead... And I'm with you on missing the occasional "happy ending"....one of my favorites is in Season 1, where the background song abruptly cuts off because of Hurley's CD player dying, leading to a dismayed "Son of a bitch!"
