  1. Yes, I know you have special insight into that.
  2. It's pretty clear to me that the actual title of the film is STAR WARS Episode V THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. The interpolation of the colon and the dash is without warrant.
  3. Is this true? Isn't a lot of classical music either largely abstract or more of an expression of emotions?
  4. At some level, yes, but assertions of sentimentality (or the lack thereof) tend to be especially pat. In reviews, what constitutes crass manipulation or officious hand-holding is treated as a given and rarely explored.
  5. I'm not sure we'd all agree that Schindler's List is a paragon of laudable restraint. But these discussions inevitably dead-end at some point because they're predicated on fairly arbitrary line-drawing.
  6. Well, I know European Netflix has The Good Wife available for streaming, whereas in the U.S. you have to turn to Amazon Prime or Hulu Plus.
  7. But are there any Silver Age(-ish) composers who don't "feel the need to tell the audience just [how] dramatic and weighty [a] situation is" when scoring serious, human-scale dramas?
  8. So, Karol, by "overscore" you mean penning textures that are less "dense and complicated"?
  9. Stefan's attempt to make the poll mildly more interesting? Dunno.
  10. Yeah, it'll be interesting to see who does the replacement score.
  11. He strikes me as more of a Tangerine Dream type of guy. You're right. Williams's elitism is more knee-jerk.
  12. Hmm, I'd vote for The Reivers if Star Wars weren't there.
  13. Does anyone besides David Coscina recommend The Spiderwick Chronicles? I've heard only samples, but they sound moderately promising.
  14. I just visited Joe Kraemers website (who seems to be very fond of JW) and the surprising thing was his post about JW turning down an offer to score Jack Reacher... http://joekraemer.com/ John Williams is too elitist to score a poorly scripted, erratically acted genre flick. Oh, wait. It's also interesting because Kraemer scored McQuarrie's first picture, The Way of the Gun.
  15. What happens to Sith souls? Also, do all midichlorians go to heaven?
