  1. That's because of the 20% VAT (sales tax) which is already included in the price. If shipped outside the EU the tax is not charged.
  2. So he would have flown back from Philly to LA and then he's flying back east to Boston for next week's concerts? That can't be good for his back. I thought he would have preferred spending the week on the East Coast, maybe walking amongst the trees of Boston Common writing his next concerto.
  3. Oh thanks for the find. Unfortunately I'm looking to pre-order it on the Amazon.CA Canadian site. That USD is way too overpriced right now.
  4. Only two months to go until the film's release. Why isn't the soundtrack available for pre-order yet? I need to combine it with another order to ensure free shipping.
  5. New update: John Williams will be sharing the podium with Richard Kaufman for Film Night.
  6. Being abroad at the moment I likely won't be home in time for the Boston concerts (although I may be tempted to trek down for the Raiders concert early June), but I'll definitely go to the Tanglewood film night. I find it a little unfortunate that BU will have a private concert with Williams Saturday night that won't be open to the general public. Given they are local they could easily have went on a Wednesday or Thursday night, compared to people from outside the Boston area who can only travel on weekends. For Sebcote's info, Tanglewood is in Lenox, MA in the western part of the state (Albany, NY is the closest large city). You would need a car to get down (4.5 hours), or I can look into offering a carpool option if other JWFanners from the Montreal area need a lift.
  7. Listened to Ren's Theme on my walk to work this morning. It has a few similarities to Victor Navorski's Theme from "The Terminal" and Going to School from "Memoirs of a Geisha". I haven't heard the whole album yet, but I thought it was mentioned a few months back that Williams had an operatic song for the film. Is there anything else besides "Snope's Theme" that features vocal parts? In the second trailer we had the force theme with high voices - were those all sythesized just for the trailer?
  8. ***We regret there can be no ticket refunds or exchanges, even in the event of inclement weather. All programs and artists are subject to change. *** Make sure at least your hotel bookings are refundable/allow cancellation on short notice, as some of you have learned from last year.
  9. $200 to $230 per ticket... ouch! It's too far out for me to commit.
  10. Is anyone hoping to go and can't find a ticket? I might send you mine as I'm already going to Tanglewood next weekend and have no intention of going a second time unless the program is absolutely spectacular with a James Horner tribute of "Cocoon" and "Courage Under Fire", and lesser-known Williams stuff. If not I'll turn it in at the box office next weekend for a refund and/or BSO gift card.
  11. If you buy a subscription (usually around 6 concerts for the regular Philadelphia Orchestra season), you can immediately access the presale.
  12. Now I feel sad about spending the entire summer of 2014 in Europe, thinking that the 2013 performances of his might be the last I attended. Thankfully I got War Horse signed! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Philadelphia. That's a charity engagement so he'll probably do anything not to cancel.
  13. Does anyone know what date single tickets will become available? I just booked a return flight for the very next morning for very few points and only $5.60 in taxes just to be safe.
  14. Because you have the full forces of both the BSO (professional) and the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra (students) combined on stage plus canons on the lawn at your disposal for one of the most epic pieces in the repertoire. For the TMC fellows, performing under JW's baton was certainly the highlight of their summer (2010, I think). Of course, most attendees take the piece completely of out context... because nothing says 'AMERICA' like the Russians whooping the French! Lol.
  15. Too bad I'm working and can't drive down after work that Tuesday night. Looks like an even better program than Film Night. I attended the "On Parade" concert a few years ago and John Williams had the honor of conducting the Tchaikovsky 1812!
  16. I'll be curious to see if Newman and Williams perform any tributes to Horner during Film Night at Tanglewood. Heck it would be quite something if they could get Céline who's currently in Boston to sing "My Heart Will Go On" in his honor.
  17. The recording is from the Saturday night performance and there might have been a few flubs here and there, but the Friday night performance I attended was spot on, and the orchestra probably sounded even better than they have in recent years. There's a certain degree of energy I noticed when orchestras are led by a guest conductor for the first time. The musicians really tried their best to impress Kaufman.
  18. Google Maps now actually has Street View inside the shed. You can see the benches stradle the interior and exterior edges of the shed next to sections 9 (left) and 10 (right). I bought my seat on the left bench for this year's concert. I sat on the rear bench a couple years ago, which was a bit far, but they are actually more comfortable than the wooden chairs inside the shed which are brutal on your back. You might or might not have a pillar blocking some or part of your view. An unfortunate drawback of the left benches will also be having to endure patrons walking in front of you hoping to beat traffic before the concert actually ends.
  19. John Williams, the former Canadian MP in the House of Commons. http://www.parl.gc.ca/Parliamentarians/en/members/John-G-Williams%281398%29/Roles
  20. I'm still going tonight. Jay, I've sent you a copy of the program if you want to share it on the forum.
  21. It'll be weird after the show when we all just go our separate ways... no clamoring for autographs. I've got a bus to catch this time around anyways.
  22. So who IS still coming for the Friday performance? Should we meetup at the Pour House pre-concert?
  23. I attended Richard Kaufman's RSNO performance in Edinburgh and this was the program. I wonder how similar the Boston one will be given that none of JW's own suggestions were previously announced. John Williams Superman March John Williams Theme from Jurassic Park John Williams Hymn to the Fallen (Saving Private Ryan) John Williams Midway March John Williams Sabrina John Williams Devil's Dance (The Witches of Eastwick) John Williams If We Were in Love (Yes, Giorgio) John Williams Star Wars Suite: V. Throne Room & End Title Interval John Williams Raiders March John Williams Harry's Wondrous World (Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone) John Williams Catch me if you can: Escapades for Alto Saxophone and Orchestra John Williams Empire of the Sun: Jim's New Life John Williams Flight to Neverland from Hook John Williams Suite from Jaws John Williams E.T.: Adventures on Earth Encore: Williams March from "1941"
  24. That sounds good yeah. I'm staying at the 'Hostel International Boston,' which has good reviews and is very cheap for Boston. It might be a long walk from the Hall, so I'll probably be getting a taxi back. It saves getting lost and brutally killed. I'm also staying at the Hostel International. For finding your way back, the easiest way is taking the T (underground/metro/subway) but from the Mass Ave stop on the orange line (just a two minute walk from the Symphony stop on the green line). That would bring you back up to Chinatown where the hostel is in just five minutes or so. As for getting brutally killed, just a reminder that it is Boston, not Baltimore. For those of us only attending the Friday performance, will there be a JW Fan meeting/dinner before too?
  25. Got my tickets for Friday, May 22 ORCH near the front! Also going Lockhart's show Thursday the 21st sitting in the balcony.
