Hyperspace??

The hell is this exactly?

That sounds like some kind of pay service.

Is Lucas going to now charge people to visit StarWars.com and access all of its features?

PLEASE TELL ME THIS IS NOT TRUE!

Otherwise Lucas has reached a brand new low.

OH GOD!

IT IS A PAY SERVICE!!!

So now you have to pay just to get the hype of Lucas' overblown CG extravaganzas?

Go friggin figure!

I swear this guy is going to start charging people 50 cents every time they say the name "Star Wars" 10 years from now,

The difference between Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Geoge Lucas's **POST 1983** Star Wars series..............COMMERCIALISM.

Sure Jackson might pull a few commercial tricks.....like a normal DVD in August, followed by a 4 DVD Extended Edition in November, and then finally a 5 DVD special set. But even so, these 4 DVD and 5 DVD sets have so much crammed into them........new scenes, perfectly done, and new music composed just for them to seamlessly merge with the rest of the soundtrack, and countless hours of real, quality bonus coverage.

But Lucas and his modern day Star Wars empire...........it is really enough to make a normal Star Wars fan sick. Everything they do is commercial. They hold back music for commercial purposes (and how about the "Bonus track" Target store scam???), they now withhold some fun deleted scenes from the DVD release, just to entice people to sign up for a *pay* commercial website, the list goes on and on.

Oh yes, and then there are the ad campaigns like "Yoda da Man" or whatever. Star Wars has become a joke. A commercialized, completely little-kid-oriented joke. Every thought that crosses the minds of the people at Lucasfilm these days is "How can we entice little kids to give more money to us?"

I strongly advise people to steer clear of this "opportunity" starwars.com is offering...........for your own dignity, don't sign up! Read a free spoiler website!

OK, enough ranting

I think the actual SW.com site will be still available. Only members will have access to the latest (and coolest) EpIII news and so...

I don't think it right too...but...anyway if you were not going to see EPIII (or dislike the actual SW) why care about visiting that site?

Luke, who hopes that deleted scene leaks out somewhere

PS: PJ also releases a special Score with one new track (and he started it before lucas)

Hmmm....the AOTC CD was released before TTT, you know that.

Stefancos- who thinks Luke's comparing of GL with PJ is becoming obsessive

OH i forgot. The special version of FOTR only offered a different cover and a booklet.

Stefan, the other guy compared GL and PJ before me. In all directors out there, he had to choose that one (that anyway is not THAT 'uncommercial')

And many other people do.

Look, i'll try not to do it next time...

The only thing Lucas and Jackson seem to have in common is how much they weigh.

Look I still feel this is ridiculous. I mean folks let me put it this way:

What is Starwars.com really? Its a commercial site creating by Lucasfilm to help George whore his SW films. So its really in many ways a prmotional site.

So now by adding this feature George is essentially making his fans PAY to have the SW films marketed to them.

Basically PAY for advertising.

Lucas ...... hast thou no shame?

Starwars.com will still be free. Only some special features will require paying. Not that I agree with it, but since some many fo you seem to have lost all faith in Lucas and his abilities, why should you be bothered abiut this, since hyperspace will cover mostly Episode III related subejects?

Anyway, I do strongly disagree with this measure, but I'm sure many clips will leek out in no time.

Here's what should be in the "platinum" section of the Web site: photos and sound clips of recording sessions. Not necessarily entire cues, but just little teasers. I'd really like to see Spielberg-like home movies of Williams talking to the orchestra and the symphony.

Will everyone just relax already? Sheesh! You'd think Lucas was sending a platoon of stormtroopers armed with an interrogation droid to every fan geek's house to force them to pay. :P

Think of this new Hyperspace site as a fanclub magazine subscription. You pay the subscription, then you get to see special content you wouldn't otherwise see anywhere else. Simple. Not everything on the internet is free, folks. And here's a news flash: Lucasfilm is a business. Lucasfilm exists to provide a service (entertainment) in order to make a profit (you pay to be entertained) so that they can continue to provide said service.

Now, whether or not the content at Hyperspace will be worth the fee remains to be seen; and whether or not the prequel trilogy sucks and GL is a whore is up for debate in a different forum. Meanwhile, please quit bitching.

Sorry but I dont buy this excuse.

Lucas making people pay for what is essentially "promotion" of his own lackluster movies is ridiculous.

Paying for hype? Thanks but I get enough of that from Lucas as is.

You're missing the point Rogue Leader. Lucas is not making anybody pay for anything. You either subscribe or you don't. If you do, then yes, Lucas makes more money (which isn't a crime). If you don't, then you can still enjoy the free "promotion" at the regular SW site.

On the other hand, I will agree with you and everyone else on this topic if Lucasfilm decides to reserve all Episode III content for the new pay site. In other words, if all the Ep III production photos and Making Of web documentaries we've enjoyed for free for Ep I & II will be made available only to subscribers of the Hyperspace site, then yes, that would certainly be wrong.

OK OK OK fair enough .....

He is not making people pay for this stuff.

However, he is offering people content for which they must pay which is essentially hype of his movies.

I still think it is cheap that Lucas is forcing people to pay for that "rough cut" footage of the Droid Ship attack.

Shouldn't he just release that stuff for free?

Well, sure, it would've been nice if we had that scene on the Clones DVDs. Whether or not you think it's cheap to make that footage available only as part of a subscription service depends on your point of view. Personally, I don't mind so much. It's just offering "special" content in exchange for money, that's all. I don't begrudge Lucas any extra cash he makes. Furthermore, the content will include much more than just Ep III hype. Look here: http://www.theforce.net/episode3/index.shtml#21068. The old Bantha Tracks reprints alone makes the $20 (appoximate) annual charge more worth it than not for me. God bless the Holy Trilogy!

But if your point of view is that Lucas is a cash whore and his movies suck, then why would you care about any new material, whether you have to pay or not? If it's so bad, do yourself a favor and quit looking at the free stuff, too. While you're at it, you should also boycott Ep III in 2005.

This is going to a "jump to hyperspace" just like the old Falcon used to make: a failure. I'm not at the least interested, thanks.

My sentiments exactly!!!

Even R2-D2 could not make this thing take off.

It's extremely greedy to charge people money for something that should be a DVD extra. It's despicable.

The last time I checked, you have to pay for DVD's, too.

Could the Star Wars marketing Juggernaut be pushed anymore??

This is bloody ridiculous!!!

The series is being robbed of nearly all the dignity it once had.
