WHAT?! :)

I thought Horner was doing it? :S

-Chris, Who's 1st choice was Williams, 2nd choice was Horner, and has no 3rd choice... I'm disappointed... ;)

Sounds like they are likely to go for a new agey ethnic sound. Too bad, I was hoping for a grand orchestral score to show the glory of god blah blah blah and stuff.

Hearing Gerard's previous work (on Ali, The Insider and Whale Rider) I have a feeling the score will be something like Peter Gabriel's score to Last Temptation of Christ.

I was wanting a sequel to Braveheart.

:)Braveheart after "Ambush" from Clear and Present Danger finishes--it just started and it sounds pretty cool this early in the morning

Damn. I was curious to see what Horner could do with such material. The trailer looks great IMO. This is a major blow, i was looking forward to a new epic Horner score.

I think that Elfman would have done a nice job (LOL), but we will se how she does on this score, by the way, I have never seen a women conduct a orchestra before, might be interesting..... :)

LOL what would jesus think LOL hopefully the movie will eb better than the score.....also one question, in the movie stargate...who wrote the score for that? I think it was Arnold but I am not sure....I think the theme is awesome!

And why not, Peter Gabriel did very well with last Temptation Of Christ.

Using synth in a film about Jesus is about as historically inaccurate as using violins in a film about Jesus.

Stefancos- :)

That, I did not know. But wasn't the plan of Gibson originally to use only instruments from those days, just like all the dialogue was in the actualy languages of those times? Seems pretty weird to use synths if everyone's gibbering Latin and Hebrew.

also one question, in the movie stargate...who wrote the score for that? I think it was Arnold but I am not sure....I think the theme is awesome!

Yes, it was David Arnold.

- Marc, has never seen The Last Temptation of Christ

:) Howard Shore - Into The West (performed by Annie Lennox) from The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (OST)

I think you are right about the score beign to eastern.....The music should have been IMO a little more classical....I just prefer the classical style better than the eastern style....but again that is just my way of thinking.

I, for one, Cannot wait for this movie. I hope the score at least complements the film and doesn't detract from it. I wouldn't actually mind "background" music in this film, although it would have been nice to have a grandiose and epic-sounding score reminiscent of the Rosza-era.

Yeah, I guess that's pretty much what I'm thinking, now, Beo. If Mel's half the filmmaker he's appeared to be in Man Without a Face and Braveheart, then it's still going to be decent. But I dunno...maybe that was because he was smart back then in the early-mid 90s and used Horner.

Well according to advance viewings from the folks over at www.aintitcool.com, the film has been getting very good reviews - and from people of all types (Agnostics, Atheists, Catholics, etc). It seems that there was a 5 minute standing ovation at the end of the advance screening, at which Mel was present.

That article that appeared in the NYpost a few days ago claiming the movie was anti-semetic was obviously crap. Obviously a smear campaign by the ultra-non-religious zealots out there. Hmm, non-religious zealots - that's something I never would have thought of!

this is one post i'd like to read TLiJ's opinion.

Perhaps that only the Lord can Judge which composer is suitable?.

you just hit it right on the nose..... :music:

This film should have NO musical score. Just my personal opinion.

Actually, now that you mention it, I agree with you on that. The film has been described as an amazingly powerful experience, that really goes "all the way", or something like that. This music had better be very good to be up to par with the rest of the film. The trailers look mighty good. Perhaps just a main theme for the opening and end credits could suffice. At least there won't be one of those cheesy oscar-bait songs. Whoo!

- Marc, imagining the horrors of a song like that.

Coming soon: Jesus, the Musical, where Jesus sings the Lumberjack Song and Always Look On The Bright Sight Of Life, and his followers will provide a grande choral finale of My Heart Will Go On :music:

Stefancos- wondering were the Rules have gone.

As an atheist, I would assume that you wouldn't care because God doesn't exist, and we're all looney. :music:

Cause they don't excist

Don't exist?

See: Russia circa 1870. If memory serves me correctly, Russia was full of non-religious zealots at this time. They were called socialist reformers. :music:

A most excellent point Hector- let's see the title of the film is "The Last Passion of Christ." We do have to refer to the title and perhaps the subject matter every once in a while.

In regards to both the film and it's score (there's my contribution to the music side of the discussion) I can't wait to see/hear both. It sounds like it may be one Gibson's best films (perhaps one of the high points of his legacy).

Oh, and BTW shame on you KM and others for trying to egg on TLiJ (who commendably has thus far not been stupid enough to take the bait).

Does anyone know why Horner *isn't* scoring this movie? Somehow I doubt its a money issue on behalf of Mel or a time issue with Horner.

Was there a falling out or some such event?

I heard from a friend of mine that Horner didn't like the film. I guess he might of felt uncomfortible, as he is jewish. But this is a third or fourth hand report, so it's very possibly BS.
