  1. This is kinda funny, I had a very similar thought on the way to class this morning. Obviously everyone on here, or anyone with half a brain, can agree that John Williams is Film Music, not only because he is such a phenomenal composer but because he did the majority of the biggest movies ever to be made. And unfortunately, composers like Williams are a dying breed and its due to all of this new technology and listeners being influenced by new synthetic soundtracks by composers who I shall not mention, like Hans Zimmer. Although not knocking some composers now a days who do write a fairly good score it just isn't the same and movies nowadays aren't the same either, there are not many real classics being made. So honestly, I do not believe John Williams would have made his name as big as it currently is but even if he was just coming up today no one could deny that man's got some damn good talent.
  2. This movie is based off of (from what I understand) is supposed to be a really good book, correct? I'm thinking of reading the book after I see the movie that way I wont be disappointed by another movie killing my opinion on a book.
  3. I wasn't completely snubbed, but I believe I was 15 at the last concert and I was waiting by the stage of the Open Rehearsal as he was talking to the head violinist and I was like calling his name trying to get his attention with a few other people and he ignored us all. Not gonna lie I was pretty upset, especially only being fifteen but he is a busy man. I definitely am going to be a little more aggressive in trying to get his autograph this time especially if it may be my last opportunity!
  4. I bought the original E.T. soundtrack from back in '77 (?) thats definitely coming with me again this year. I really wish he would do a meet and greet type thing, would love for the chance to chat with him. Edit: Haha Faleel, you guys can have fun with that. I have no need, teenage girl at a John Williams concert I'll stick out like a sore thumb lol
  5. Haha if we come up with something to wear I'm in, but I'm still a youngin' even though I've been a boardie (and a horrible one at that) for the past five years so no drinks for me.
  6. Same, 100 more than back in 07 but for the same logic. If this is his last show here I want to make damn sure I got a decent seat =] EDIT: Back in 04 when I went he came out through the garage immediately got into his limo and left, I was so close I got there as he was stepping in. Last time I hanged around after the Open Rehearsal (which I am quite upset they arent doing this year) and he was signing autographs but by the time I got to the front he was leaving -__-. Bit of bad luck for me
  7. You're kidding, right? Oh, what a woild, what woild. . . . Atlas is one of the great novels of the 20th century. The Fountainhead was good too, but that one was more a theoretical treatise on Rand's subject. Atlas Shrugged is like the concept fully realized. One of the most profound reading experiences of my life, no question. - Uni Agreed. Although I'm not done with the book its absolutely phenomenal.
  8. Agreed. Very sad, but alas true. I honestly did not expect to see him in concert again after 2007 figuring he would have retired.
  9. I scrolled through the first page of the thread and saw Memoirs of a Geisha definitely have to agree with that its absolutely brilliant. I absolutely adore UP (the movie itself) and although I haven't listened to the entire score I do love the music in the first fifteen minutes and between that and the movie I cannot make it through the first fifteen minutes without shedding a tear or two (...or ten). Someone also mention Sabrina, although it is not the last it is definitely my favorite.
  10. It's a lovely score, and it's just a crying shame that it was hacked to pieces in the film. With, or without the narration? There is a version without the narration? I absolutely love the theme (one of the most beautiful pieces to play on the piano) its so powerful.
  11. Ah, good old Ayn Rand. Aren't they making a film out of this book? I saw the movie of "The Fountainhead". I found it all a bit "worthy". It's not that it was bad...just a bit "preachy". Yea its coming out in April, . I refused to link the trailer because its just horrible compared to this scene. Its funny they have barely done any marketing for the release of the movie, I guess they're expecting a cult following once it opens. I know I'll definitely be seeing it, my father told me I needed to read the book before I left for college (almost done with my second semester and almost done with the book lol) and it does raise some excellent philosophical/psychological points.
  12. Curious to what the reaction is going to be to this....currently reading Atlas Shrugged
  13. I think the CGI in "Transformers" is very good but it's not impressive. ILM's work on Davy Jones in the POTC films is far more impressive and realistic -- even ILM's work on "Avatar" is far more impressive than gigantic robots beating the shit out of each other. I'm not a CGI expert but isn't that kinda comparing grapes to raisins? The work on Davy Jones is phenomenal but aren't the computer animators given more to work with there because they are able to base the facial qualities off the real life actor, while in Transformers they had nothing to work with. The CGI in transformers is exceptional especially the close-ups on the Autobots/Decepticons. However, one scene that always sticks out for me for close up CGI is in Revenge of the Sith in the Grievous vs Obi-Wan scene when they're about to do battle Grevious says something like "I've been trained in your Jedi arts by Dooku.." there is a close up on Greivous' face which then pans out and his other two arms comes out. I was always thought the detail in that was really good, especially on his face.
  14. Exactly. I'd say a good 90% of Transformers is pure shit, but I'll be damned if it didn't deserve that award. Whoaa I thought Transformers was awesome! (the first, not so much the second) And to my return posts - haha yes I'm back and no you didn't scare me off, I took up a major job in high school that took up 90% of my free time. It's funny I started posting on here when I was in middle school and now I am in college and people still don't know who John Williams is Sad sad people.
  15. White Collar is my current obsession even though I missed last night's finale!
  16. While on the Battlefront subject, I must say I do love the different cues they used in Battlefront 2, especially while playing as a hero/sith. Definitely part of the reason that game is so awesome.
  17. Loved the first, liked the second (mostly because Caspian was a looker), overall a fan of the series but I didn't even bother to see the latest movie, it didn't appeal to me at all. I can't imagine the fourth one will be worth seeing.
  18. I have to ask, why did your astronomy teacher bring a violin to class? Haha we were studying sounds and vibrations
  19. No I don't think the latter is the case. I actually bought the last copy, as soon as I receive it I'll make a picture so we can compare our items, if you're fine with that? I'm at college and my autograph is at home, but I'm heading back in a week's time for spring break so if you shoot me a message in a weeks time that is not a problem.
  20. I got a glimpse at the photo before the page was re-directed stating the listing has ended. From the glance the signature seems very similar to the one I have of his (which is indeed authentic) but it could be someone just replicated his signature.
  21. This makes me feel a lot better in saying that the last movie I watched (and loved!) was Megamind.
  22. I was just curious to how quick it may sell out if it was announced a while ago. The past few times he's come to the City he has done a minimum of two shows, its odd that he is only doing one and I definitely do NOT want to miss it. I've been dying to see him again since the day after the 2007 show and this was during the rumors of his retirement era so I was afraid that may have been his last show in New York. I do hope the program is just specifically his music rather than than the 2007 show.
  23. Randomly decided to listen to Schindler's List today after my Astronomy teacher brought out his violin in class today. one of my all time favorites and definitely a tear jerker.
  24. Hello all, Its been agess since I have posted on here! I randomly decided to check the site for the first time in a while and almost died when I saw John Williams in coming back to Avery Fischer Hall for another concert. Can someone please tell me when this concert was announced? Edit: Also can someone tell me if "Buy Add-Ons" is the same as purchasing tickets for the event (only option offered on the page) Thanks!
