If I saw a human being beaten for malicious and intentional animal abuse, I might wait a minute or two before calling the police. Just sayin'.

If somebody abused another person you wouldn't call it hypocritical to have some desire to allow the abuser to be punished.

Remember that Shawarma you bought from that Turk last weekend?

Well.........

Melange : Hmmm, unsure if Stefan would ever buy something from a Turk so maybe this post fails?

The inexpensive Donner Kebab has been the greatest contribution that people made to Western civilisation

Kids kick wild cats in Turkey. I assumed it was a common occurrence in other European countries.

Turkey might be in Europe geographically, but that sort of behaviour is frowned upon in my neck of the woods. Even illegal.

What the fuck, people?

-I wanted to express that I find dogs more cute than cats.

-My common reaction to a wild cat is "oh, a cat! come here! don't go away!" or something like it.

-My common reaction to the wild cats that enter the garden, and sometimes break into the house, fight my own cats, or eat their food, is indeed kicking them good. But they run too much so my cats are better at it.

-Generally, if you beat an innocent animal in front of me I'll be disgusted. Specially the typical reaction of "kill it! kill it!" whenever a friend of mine simply sees a spider or something. Specially if it involves reptiles or amphibians.

-Other animals I have beaten are the mice the cats bring alive into the house, and i once tortured ants to see what happened when I was a kid. Oh and ticks in summer. And a crab once (accidentally). I also once collected a type of clam from a beach and prepared them for eating. And I've dissected alive a mussel and a crab in class. And I once went fishing. I've also killed countless flies and mosquitoes and once a big tropical spider that was hunting in my tent and making me feel unease.

Kids kick wild cats anywhere. It's common for kids that grew up in rural areas to chase animals and do all kinds of weird shit. For example if they haven't been educated about it, or they haven't developed empathy, or whatever. That comment is simplistic and denigrating.

a few years ago in my hometown a couple of teens had, with rocks, crushed a swan's head against a big rock and lit its feathers on fire :crymore: it was all over the news.

now those are some despicable human beings!

Similar case happened here in Finland only recently but they shot the swan from a boat. A couple of 15 year old kids. I admit that the Swedish case takes the cake for pure homicidal brutality but the urge to kill animals for fun is both disgusting and shocking.

Perhaps there is something gone crooked in bringing up kids to respect life in all its forms.

In China there have been documented cases of dogs being skinned alive and cats being boiled alive. This is on a regular basis, at food suppliers. And for the former, they don't even kill the dog after it has been skinned, they just throw it to the side and let it die slowly. There was also a lady who roasted a puppy while it was still alive. :(

Wow. That's heavy.

You guys in the North seems to have a personal vendetta against swans. Is there something in your mythology indicating that swans are evil creatures that deserve to die? A bit like snakes in the Bible... Wasn't a swan responsible for eating one of Odin's eyes or something like that? I don't know, there must be something...

Swan of Tuonela is a deadly bird. The legend in Kalevala says that whoever kills the swan will die in turn. And this happens to Lemminkäinen, who is killed and cut to pieces and thrown into the River of the Underworld. His mother rakes his body parts out of the river and revives him back to life.

Interesting compositional and thematic similarity:

so swans are birds of pray too? :P

Well you better pray if you encounter one. But then you would have to descend into the Underworld and that would mean that you are either a great hero of Finnish folk lore or dead. So I wouldn't worry if I were you. ;)

Wow. She must have been at least a lvl. 75 Healer to manage to do that! How many magic points did it cost her?

She lost 20 levels permanently when she revived her son. It was at the time of the old rule system when penalties for resurrections were much harsher.

Sadly the animosity towards animals and that poor swan does not stem from any large emnity for the Swan of Tuonela. I doubt most 15 year olds even know what that is in this day and age. I hope most of them can at least read at that age but Kalevala is perhaps not on the top of their reading lists or found on teenager bedside tables.

Of course there's a primal desire to do unto others what they do to you; but aren't you the one that said we have the intelligence to choose the better path (or something like that) in regards to eating animals? Same situation here. Guess you're a supporter of the death penalty then? That guy killed someone, it's okay for us to do the same!

No. I'm talking about a gut, instinctive desire to do harm to mean people. I would always call the police if someone was being beaten for reasons other than self-defense. But any decision we make is part emotional, part intellectual, and the former would probably persuade me to wait a minute or two.

The death penalty is underrated. We have Monday Night Football, we need Monday Night Executions too.

I am reminded of the case of James Bulger, the 2 year old brutally murdered in the early 90s by two Boys aged 11. I'm not convinced that environmental factors (broken homes etc) are always to blame. I suspect some people are simply damaged goods from day one.

I'm surprised. I thought there'd be more dog lovers.

And yet another fucking tie...

LOL at the member who chose the last option. I knew who it was even before checking it. That guy is so damn predictable!

Well, how about the guy who selected the options? Puppies/Kittens are lovely....if not, they deserve to die...

Your world is quite black-and-white.

BOD FTW!

This is quite funny:

Why don't you just pick kittens to help KITTENS BE THE OFFICIAL JWFAN ANIMAL?

You silly goose.

I've had puppies and I've had Kittens, Love them both.

Joey wouldn't stoop to such a 'fence sitting / best of both worlds' strategy :P

Are you telling us you are bi?

Would you ask the same of James Taylor when he says he's seen fire and he's seen rain?

it's not fence sitting. I've had both cats and dogs. I love them both, there is no reason to choose between them when you can have both like I have. You can have fries with your hamburger and not sit on a fence.
