From all I read, using Windows 8 as a desktop with keyboard and mouse is pretty crappy. Sure somekind on normal interface is included but apparently it's awkward to use and no Start menu. You can get "around it" but it's like it was included as a half assed measure to reassure the people that don't use tablets

But once again I gave up buying a Gaming PC. It would have cost me over 1000$ and I'd STILL have to upgrade the Graphics card because the ones included are crap even at that price (Radeon 7650 or whatever and the bottom decent one is 7850)

I guess I'll save the cash for the xbox720

Just for gits and shiggles, I should ask you what specs you're looking for, and see how cheap I could build it.

The cheapest Alienware that I can see without much delving is their X51™ and it starts at $699:

3rd gen Intel® Core™ i7 processor

Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English

8GB 1333Mhz Dual Channel memory *

New 1.5GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 video card with 330W PSU

Slot-loading Dual Layer Blu-ray reader

Integrated Wireless LAN card (standard)

But if you buy Alienware...dude, you're gettin' a Dell...

I mean, I want to buy at least a GeForce 670 video card, which don't come much cheaper than $400, but that's also because I've put well over $2000 into the machine over 5+ years. Longer if the continued use of a PS/2 keyboard purchased in 1999 holds any relevance.

I have the 7850. Runs Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3 maxed out, which is precisely why I got it. Cost me £155.00. When I feel the need, I'll replace it.

That's certainly an option. I don't fancy the idea of plunking down $400 on a single video card, and would like the next best thing to come out and drive down its cost. Though I do have $100+ worth of BestBuy gift cards, I'd prefer to not spend more on something from there just to consume gift cards, when it would be cheaper elsewhere (Newegg/Tiger).

Our old dryer went, and the washer wasn't looking too good. So we bought new fancy schmancy washers and dryers. LG Washer WM3470HVA and LG Dryer DLEX3470V.

Love the washer. No more rumble rumble rumble. It sounds like an ultra quiet jet engine when washing.

Got both together for $1900 after being a pain in the ass cheapskate barterer. I have no morals.

Oh cool. When we all tour the south, Joey can cook for us and Blume can do the laundry.

Back in high school, we would put clean ones over the water fountains and fill them till they reached over to touch the floor. Nobody would touch them out of fear they weren't clean. Good times.

The 2.1 Harman Kardon Soundsticks iii review phenomenally well so since they are on sale I decided to take a punt.

1357234814748.jpg

Designed to go along with an iMac (Apple endorse and sell them on their site) word on the net is they even outclass a lot of 2.1 home cinema systems. Which will be interesting if true.

Eh? They're designed to be discreet, hidden. I was inspecting it in the shop and it's the most discreet 2.1 system I've ever seen. It'll slot nicely behind where I need it to be, out of the way. But yeah, I was absolutely driven by the claims of superior quality at the price overall. Do you know what gaudy actually is?

That's gaudy.

Oh and if you're into your fluffy spiel nonsense:

“Harman Kardon’s Soundsticks are so well designed that they have permanent residence in the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.”

Practicing my wrist flick

Firm grip using the entire span of the palm's flesh, then drive it down and slightly away from yourself. Bring your hand back up slowly, releasing the hold a little till fully returned to upright position. Rinse and repeat, pivoting the wrist like wheels on a locomotive.

And be careful not to catch yourself in the face.

Over the past week I bought myself a Yamaha 7.1 receiver and an Onkyo 7.1 speaker set. My own home theater is almost complete. Can't wait to finally start watching movies again.

Over the past week I bought myself a Yamaha 7.1 receiver and an Onkyo 7.1 speaker set. My own home theater is almost complete. Can't wait to finally start watching movies again.

Oh, wow! Can I come round and give it a listen?

What films are you looking forward to watching, and why?

It still isn't set up, both of those are still sitting in their boxes. I'm in the process of clearing out my brother's old room so I can set it up there. I have been thinking which movie I would watch first, but to give you an idea, I haven't watched any of my Blus for at least 6 months. I also buy a lot of them, so you can imagine the build up I have. The other day I was excited to finally watch Tintin and Hugo and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, but then I thought about Malick's Badlands and all the other brilliant films from The Criterion Collection I haven't watched yet. I'm gonna be holed up in that room for awhile once it's ready.

"The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" is such an atmospheric film, and Ren Klyce's sound design is a wonder to behold!

As for "Badlands"; all I can say is "f**k, yeah!!!".

Parts to build me a new computer. The other day something happened that caused the circuit breaker to trip in my room and the spare bedroom. That resulted in something to fry my computer. Although it would turn on but nothing registered so makes me think it was CPU related.

I've been wanting to build me a new computer anyways for a while now. I built the current one back in 2005 and it had started to show its age. I'm not building anything high end since I'm not a gamer. I just need something to watch movies, edit music and play on photoshop.

I'm not going to build it until after my dad and I move back up to Salt Lake City on May 4th. Well it'll be a few days after that since I want to get settled in and everything set back up.

Back in 2005, I spent over $800 (minus shipping) for my first computer. Then again I had to buy everything....tower, mouse, kebyoard, monitor, etc. This time I'm only spending just over $600 for everything, that includes Windows 7 and a 2tb internal drive. This time around I don't have to get a mouse and monitor but I'm going to be getting a better keyboard.

Have fun, man. Building computers is fun.

I just spent about $30 on two tickets to see The Best of Both Worlds on the big screen. Should be awesome.

Thanks. I actually got it built but I didn't realize I needed a power cable adapter for one of the cables from the power supply. The one coming out of the power supply is a 6 pin and the one from the motherboard is 8pin. There's one on Newegg I'll buy after I move and will get it up and going at that point.

I was getting frusterated yesterday because power was getting to all the fans, and lights on the motherboard but the CPU wouldn't fire up like it normally should. So I ended up tearing things apart again and doing a step by step check list. I then realized it was one of the power ports I needed to have run the proper deal to...the one where I got to have the adapter cord.

I was hoping to have it up and going today but nope....ah well.

Bought these as a birthday present to myself and got them today from Amazon.

Vengeance.jpg

The Bandai Rangers are SPOT on for the pain job and details. Even their weapons are highly detailed which surprised me. They do have different points of articulation for movement and even different set of hands for poses and such.

The Pink and White rangers are being released this year. So I assume by that the Black, Blue and Yellow rangers should follow suit, probably next year. I'm tempted to get the rest of the team and maybe even another Green Ranger to see if Jason David Frank will sign it for me.

The Vengeance is the Hot Wheels toy.

A Good Day To Die Hard on Blu-Ray (with the DVD deal). I have been wanting to get it to complete the Die Hard Blu-Ray collection and it'll give me something to watch on the flight from Dallas to Salt Lake City tomorrow.

Been driving me old banger for too long now and badly needed to upgrade so thought I'd treat myself. The only downside was the 5dr requirement (I have to factor the kids into everything nowadays) which means it won't be delivered till the end of January. Bugger.
